I think Groucho has it backwards. Religious people aren't pushing their religion into politics. Their religion is already in a lot of American politics, and they are trying to combat the removal of Christian values from American Politics, like overturning Roe v Wade and marriage equality.

I do believe that most people who oppose marriage equality do it out of religious beliefs (obviously illogical, if someone does not believe in Christianity they should not be held to its standards), but it is common for even non Christians to oppose abortion. It's much less of a black and white issue than marriage equality where you either support it or don't (I do).

Church and state need to be separated. Period. Religion must not be part of politics, ever.

I agree. There are moral qualms to abortion outside of religion though.

But 95% of them are based on religious beliefs.

I highly doubt that it's that high. Is that a real statistic?

No, it isn't. But from all you let be known about you, you also seem to be heavily influenced by your Christian upbringing.

This was one of the large complaints I had with Green party candidate Stein. Very liberal, but that is just as Anti-science as the climate change deniers.

How about people on the left that want to ban guns based on appearance rather than capability? I.e., a sem-automatic AR-15 with a foreward grip is illegal but a semi-automatic AR-15 without is legal under some post Sandy Hook laws. Seems those are laws based on superstition and what one perceives as scary.

Also anti-gmo laws. Especially ripe when the same people worry about global warming yet refuse crops modified to be drought resistant.

I do this for a living, you know.

OK. Appeal to authority. I went to law school as well. Means nothing.

I just think it's logical to avoid destroying life if at all possible. I understand there are points where it is unavoidable and it's the right thing to do.

It might be life, but it is not a conscious human being until a certain number of weeks in the womb.

There is a reason why trhis map is mostly blue in its uppe half because most of those countries have a successful separation pf state and church, whereas the others do not

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_ ... n_Laws.svg

The USA does not, but luckily reason has prevailed some time back. Let's not return to the darker ages.

Seriously.

I really hope Senate Dems at least make an effort to try to block Jeff Sessions as Attorney General. He's a slimy little shit.

I seriously love that pic, despite what it represents. Vince McMahon, for all his flaws, has some great facial reactions.

So Trump essentially is proven to have committed MASSIVE fraud. And then calls out the Hamilton CAST for being rude, when they have probably been the most kind thing Pence has ever heard.

Post Re: President Trump
Here are some wise words via the NYT that the majority of KJer's and media will naturally ignore:

Quote:
Five years ago, I warned about the risk of a Donald J. Trump presidency. Most people laughed. They thought it inconceivable.

I was not particularly prescient; I come from Italy, and I had already seen this movie, starring Silvio Berlusconi, who led the Italian government as prime minister for a total of nine years between 1994 and 2011. I knew how it could unfold.

Now that Mr. Trump has been elected president, the Berlusconi parallel could offer an important lesson in how to avoid transforming a razor-thin victory into a two-decade affair. If you think presidential term limits and Mr. Trump’s age could save the country from that fate, think again. His tenure could easily turn into a Trump dynasty.

Mr. Berlusconi was able to govern Italy for as long as he did mostly thanks to the incompetence of his opposition. It was so rabidly obsessed with his personality that any substantive political debate disappeared; it focused only on personal attacks, the effect of which was to increase Mr. Berlusconi’s popularity. His secret was an ability to set off a Pavlovian reaction among his leftist opponents, which engendered instantaneous sympathy in most moderate voters. Mr. Trump is no different.
