 Re: President Trump I think Groucho has it backwards. Religious people aren't pushing their religion into politics. Their religion is already in a lot of American politics, and they are trying to combat the removal of Christian values from American Politics, like overturning Roe v Wade and marriage equality.
I do believe that most people who oppose marriage equality do it out of religious beliefs (obviously illogical, if someone does not believe in Christianity they should not be held to its standards), but it is common for even non Christians to oppose abortion. It's much less of a black and white issue than marriage equality where you either support it or don't (I do).

How about people on the left that want to ban guns based on appearance rather than capability?
