Re: Renewed, Cancelled or Hiatus Bound: 2016-2017 Edition
"Notorious" has had its episode order trimmed from 13 to 10 episodes, effectively making the show the first cancellation of the season.

Also, not sure if this is a cancellation since FOX is claiming this is how it was always planned, but "Pitch" will end its first season in December with 10 episodes.

Last night while the entire country was collectively freaking out ABC quietly cancelled "Conviction" (which will complete its 13 episode order) and Freeform canned "Dead of Summer" after one season.

Re: Renewed, Cancelled or Hiatus Bound: 2016-2017 Edition
So is this a new thing now? Seems like season totals are getting shorter, or is this just a way to keep a low-rated show going for a season without just cancelling it?

The totals are definitely shorter overall this year. FOX for example has "Scream Queens," "Pitch" and "The Exorcist" with 10 episode orders, and it seems it was always planned for them to run that way.

Oh wow, had no idea Scream Queens and The Exorcist were only 10.

Re: Renewed, Cancelled or Hiatus Bound: 2016-2017 Edition
Planned and what network wants you to believe is two different things. Obviously Scream Queens wouldn't have a big order considering it just doesn't pull big ratings and FOX knew what they could expect in season 2. Pitch is a failure, but you really think FOX would stay at 10 if the show was a bigger success?
As far as The Exorcist goes it does seem it has been planned as a short run series.

Re: Renewed, Cancelled or Hiatus Bound: 2016-2017 Edition
That's not necessarily true. Like I'm sure "The Good Place" would be getting more episodes if they hadn't explicitly picked it up as a 13-episode first season. It's just the new reality at this point, especially on shows with names attached that don't want to commit to 22 episodes a year.

I thought as much. So it should be "United States of America" has been cancelled after 240 seasons, as America has been around A LOT longer.

They aren't cancelled but "Frequency" and "No Tomorrow" won't be getting back orders and will end their first seasons with 13 episodes.
