The Exorcist (Fox)
This serialized adaptation of the iconic horror novel and film debuts on Fox on Friday, September 23rd. The cast includes Ben Daniels (House of Cards, Flesh and Bone) and Geena Davis.
Who knows how long will last considering it is Fox, etc., etc., but I am a big enough fan of the cast and the source material to give this a chance.

I read the script a few months back and actually really liked it. There's a cool twist at the end of the pilot I didn't see coming. I'll be tuning in.

Not to mention it's a horror show on Fridays. Has Fox once been successful with that since The X-Files aired on Fridays in the mid 90s before moving to Sundays?
But I feel like ratings standards are so low, maybe it'll be fine on Fridays as long as it gets 2-3 million viewers. That's what Scream Queens was getting and we're close to the Season 2 premiere for that.

Geena Davis, cool. Not seen her for what seems like an eternity (apart from those Variety interviews with Susan Sarandon where she said nothing).

OK pilot. A bit all over the place story wise, the flow was a bit off. But it ain't a disaster as it could've been looking at previous attempts to serialize movies.

This was really good and impeccably directed. They did a good job of establishing an atmospheric tone, and Alfonso Herrera (Hernando!) and Geena Davis were fantastic.

For a guy who watches lots of stuff (so supposedly could tell good directing from mediocre to bad) you sure do like to throw glowing reviews all around.

I enjoy this. The acting is compelling, particularly by Ben Daniels. It has genuine, eerie atmosphere. So far, it is an intelligent, well-crafted continuation of the brand. The first season may end up the best Exorcist story since the original Friedkin film, topping movie number three. I wish the ratings were stronger.

Does it try to shock?

Re: The Exorcist (Fox)
It's pretty much by the numbers exorcism story so far. No shocks (story wise, scene wise) whatsoever. The second episode was a bit boring IMHO.
I find it excellent so far. I'm not sure why it's failing. I think its worst enemy is its own fanbase. The only people genuinely interested in a show like this won't give it a chance because The Exorcist is a beloved film and remakes/reboots/re-whatever are generally viewed as mediocre. This and Bates Motel prove that TV continuations or adaptations are superior to feature film remakes or sequels for these old franchises.

I thought the twist was excellent. I only wish the show as a whole was a bit better.

Its an entertaining show, not scary but entertaining , i think if it were on netflix or any of the premium channels it could have been so much more and resemble the film a bit, but its more like supernatural than The Exorcist.

Re: The Exorcist (Fox)
This show has good ideas, but the execution is trash and terrible. The last episode was boring and predictable, but the last scene was great.
I'm surprised at the reaction on here for the show. I kind of love it. It's not breaking new ground, but I think it's a solid miniseries continuation of a flawed franchise.

I really enjoy it. Everyone involved is strong and it's a nice addition to the Exorcist franchise.

Everyone I know who watches it loves it and the writeups about it especially lately have been really positive.

Re: The Exorcist (Fox)
I've been binging this over the weekend. On episode 9 now. It's pretty good and the acting is strong across the board, and the twists have been really cool and unexpected. The one storyline I just do not care about at all is the snoozefest romance between Tomas and Jessica. It's so boring and drags the show down.
Geena Davis is bringing it though. Love the family storylines.

Re: The Exorcist (Fox)
The finale was good. Wrapped things up very nicely. I assume the second season if this goes another year would focus on Tomas and Marcus tackling another case, since I don't see where they could go with the Regan and her family storyline. That's kind of a shame, since the religious stuff was probably the least engaging thing about this show in my opinion.
