I loved the finale but I can understand why people would hate it. It was heartbreaking.

They should have aired the interview with the Kings they released online after the show. It puts everything into perspective really nicely and made me appreciate the finale a bit more.

Christine Baranski's face during Alicia's betrayal :tears:

After sleeping on it I appreciated the ending even more, though it's arguably one of the most polarizing series finales in recent memory.

The moment where Alicia left Peter on the podium was literally all I wanted in the finale and was a PERFECT scene.

And I didn't take the ending as completely hopeless. I saw it as her finally taking a stand and leaving Peter, and also letting Will go. She was ready to move forward and I felt the implication was that she was going to go after Jason no matter what.

The slap Diane gave her was intended to wake her up - almost like the slap in the series premiere woke her up then.

Christine Baranski broke my heart when Alicia betrayed her in the courtroom.

I'm jealous of anyone that gets to start this show from the beginning. It's like the only broadcast show on at the moment that I think was up to par with the cable shows in terms of quality. I already miss the characters - Diane Lockhart and Alicia are destined to be iconic female TV characters.

Also I hope Cush Jumbo gets another show soon. I came to love Lucca and she has such a warm and charismatic screen presence.

I loved the finale. It really came full circle. Amazing series from start to finish. There's not another drama I'm looking forward seeing week to week.

From what I gather online, the general reception towards the finale is polarized at best, but mostly negative.

Alicia getting slapped to bring it full circle seems like a good ending to me. But I didn't see enough of the show to know if they'd done justice to the Alicia breaking bad idea. TGW always seemed to me like a show that has flashes of brilliance but at times was written as if the Kings were short on time writing scripts and had to throw something together quickly

This is really only characteristic of the last two seasons, which are very uneven compared to the excellent first five seasons (excepting some of the clunker episodes in the first half of season 4).

The idea of Alicia getting slapped by Diane and everything coming full circle makes sense, I'm just not sure I like how they did it. It felt haphazardly constructed, as if they knew Alicia had to get slapped by someone at the end, so they came up with this vague development of her burning one of her last remaining valid relationships (Diane) at the very end.

I really didn't like how the finale spent so much time focusing on Peter. Did anyone really care about the specifics of what he may or may not have done? In some ways, I think "Party" from two episodes ago would have been a better series finale with some tweaks.

I wasn't necessarily a huge fan of the ending but it doesn't taint the show's legacy for me at all. Seasons 6 and 7, as I said before, were pretty uneven (although 7 was better than 6), but the first five are just amazing. This was my favorite show for a number of years and I'm sad to see it leave but it was definitely time to wrap things up.

I find both season 6 and 7 to be great too.

TVLine readers graded the finale a "D+" and I was always under the impression that they are quite lenient in their grades, LOL.

It's not a happy finale, just the opposite. And kinda completely opposite of what the season looked like it would end. But it fits 100% with what the show was about.

I've enjoyed most of season 7 - and really most of the last episode, but wow. What an off ending. I get it's supposed to be full circle, but I don't think they built it up right at all.

Sometime I want to do a rewatch of the entire fifth season. One of the single best television seasons of any program ever, not hyperbole at all. In subsequent years, I feel like people won't remember the series end nearly as much as they recall "Hitting the Fan" or "The Last Call."

I'm sad they never got Robyn (Jess Weixler) to return. I know they were trying to work it out with her schedule.

A Diane spin-off starring Christine Baranski and Cush Jumbo is being heavily rumored to go straight to series on CBS All Access (rather than the channel itself).

The spinoff has been moved up and will premiere in February. The first episode will air on CBS and the others will premiere on their streaming service.

The Kings will be showrunners, which is big news because originally they weren't going to be involved past the first episode.

Also Christine Baranski confirmed in a prior interview the order was for 10 episodes.
