Penny Dreadful.

For the second time in less than a year (after The Brink), HBO has canceled a show they previously renewed: Vinyl will not return for a second season.

This might have something to do with Terence Winter having departed (and the ratings were not enough of a motivation either)

The news saddens me. The first season of Vinyl is imperfect (the mob-and-murder elements seem a rote bit of muscle memory for Scorsese and Winter in what is otherwise not a crime drama), but it is also very dynamic and well-acted, and it improved as it went along. I was eager to see a new and improved second season.

I was honestly expecting that to happen. It was renewed super early in the show's run and when it ended it had no buzz and ratings were HORRIBLE throughout ("The Leftovers" was doing better). It cost them a fortune too.

It will be interesting to see how Westworld fares. It almost reminds me of the Vinyl scenario, but on an even larger scale. HBO just throwing budget, budget, budget, and more budget at a project out of blind faith in the fancy talent involved.

If it tanks they are totally fucked. It has literally been filming since August 2014 and is still in production since they had that break to re-evaluate the direction the series was going in since they went over-budget. Plus the talent involved alone is so high profile I don't even want to imagine how much it's costing them. But the trailer has been getting a good reception online thus far, so we'll see.

The new head of HBO clearly wants to start fresh.

I'm just glad I'm getting a final season of "The Leftovers."

Cancelled?

Oh, don't be an ass, lol.

The creator, Gladiator and Skyfall writer John Logan, claims it reached a natural and intended conclusion, but I cannot help but believe there was a cancellation element involved. The last three episodes just feel rushed in a way the show never was otherwise (to its detriment, its detractors would say).

I dedicated time to watch it. So I at least deserve a moment to express my joy at its cancellation.

I still haven't watched the finale yet but I haven't been a big fan of this season. I feel like it's gone in circles. And I definitely think they were cancelled halfway through shooting and the whole announcement about it coming to a natural conclusion is bogus.

Looking at it from the birght side, though - the anouncement certainlycame in time to at least film some sort of conclusion.

AMC renewed 'Preacher' for a 13-episode second season.

Uncle Buck bites the dust.

Aiming to watch all seasons of Penny Dreadful soon. Hopefully, the series will have some sort of closure.

Don't waste your time with it.

It has closure, albeit closure which feels a tad forced/rushed at the end of the third season.

"The Vampire Diaires" has been cancelled. The upcoming eighth season will be its last, and Kevin Williamson will return as showrunner for the final season.

Awesome about Kevin returning. He oversaw the first two seasons which were awesome.

I hope they get Nina Dobrev to come back for the final few episodes.

Also we already knew this but it was confirmed at the Comic-Con panel that "Bates Motel" will officially be ending after season 5.

Oh, no one watches this here anymore but "Teen Wolf" is also ending after season 6.

Ok thanks. I'll still give a try. A shame that they had to rush the final season. Reminds me of the second (and final) season of Rome.
