 Re: RIP, Prince.
Nope, I read a nlind item thta suggested he was ill with aids. They did say he was dying in the next few weeks, days even.
His run to the hospital for a flu pretty much gave it away

 Re: RIP, Prince.
Quote: We just received word that a VERY popular African American celebrity – who has recently been in the news – now has what is being described as AIDS. Obviously since we are not able to 100% confirm the story – we’re going to leave it as a Blind Item. We want to make it clear we are NOT talking about Magic Johnson.
This report really hurt our heart.
According to a person extremely close to the situation, the celebrity, who is known for having a very extreme sexual past reportedly contracted the illness sometime in the 1990s. He kept the illness quiet but began taking his medication religiously up until about 2 years ago. Here’s what we’re told by a VERY trusted entertainment insider:
[The celebrity] believed that he was cured, and he had some crazy [religious] people who told him that God cured him. So he stopped taking his medication and the sickness came back. Now doctors say he’s dying, and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
We’re told that the celebrity is expected to get sicker and sicker, and eventually pass. It can happen as soon as the summer. http://blindgossip.com/?p=77843

 Re: RIP, Prince.
I am honestly not a major fan beyond digging the purple aesthetic and enjoying "1999" and "When Doves Cry" as much as the next person, but he was certainly an intriguing figure and a supremely gifted guitarist. Sad and surprising news.

RIP Prince, appreciative to have been able to catch Purple Rain on the big screen 2 years ago during BET Fest, as well as seeing this legend in concert during his 21-show Los Angeles residency at The Forum in 2011.

 Re: RIP, Prince.
An interesting side note to his death, the global response, etc.: it brings into sharp focus how successful his war against the Internet was, particularly YouTube. Go there and type in "Little Red Corvette," for example, and the top results are a low-quality upload from 11 hours ago (muted in 3...2...1...) and a live cover by Phil Collins.

 Re: RIP, Prince.
Everyone's suddenly a Prince fan. lol
But really, wasn't he pretty much quiet for years? I didn't ever hear about him doing anything. I don't know, his death seems like nothing compared to MJ, Bowie, or even Whitney Houston.

No. He had been regularly releasing new albums, far more often than any of the ones you mentioned, and went on several tours as well.

 Re: RIP, Prince.
Farewell
This really bummed me out. It's just seeing these greats dying in their 50s and 60s that is sad because there's so much more things they could have created over the next 15 years or more. I think the first song I heard of Prince was actually on Star Search. There was a dance group that used one of his songs. Over time obviously I've grown to love alot of his hits. Purple Rain being my favorite.
