Post Which series will end next season?
It seems like next season will be when many networks will wrap up some of their series after this season only a few older series look to get cancelled.

So which ones, do you think, will not survive 2016/2017?

We already know that "Bones" will be done after Season 12.

I tink these will almost certainly be done after next season:

"The Vampire Diaries"
"The Originals"
"Reign"

"Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" is a toss-up, maybe depending on the love it gets from the Emmys or the net Golden Globes.

"Elementary"

Others that are less certain, but I still see ending:

"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
"Shades of Blue"

If "Castle", "Nashville" or "Sleepy Hollow" are renewed, they will end next season.

Not sure yet about "Once Upon a Time" and "Quantico". Can go either way, depending on how much they decrease from this season. If "How to Get Away with Murder" has another similarly drastic drop to the current season, it's a goner.

I would not be surprised if Vinyl ended after its second season. As a fan, I hope I am wrong, though.

Game of Thrones is supposed to end after season 7. We'll see about that.

No, HBO said "at least eight seasons".

"Girls" is also officially ending next year.

Ones I think will end next season:

"The Vampire Diaries" (with a return arc from Nina Dobrev)
"The Originals" (because The CW seems to let their shows at least go four seasons - they'll wrap things up for fans)
"Reign" (see above)
"Nashville" (because I think it will be renewed for season 5, particularly with the new showrunners. They'll definitely end next year)
"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" (because they'll have 4 seasons for syndication)
"Shameless"
"Shades of Blue"

Possibilities:

"Scandal" (I think if it doesn't end next year it definitely will end the year after)
"New Girl" (see above)
"Elementary" (though I can see them keeping this. CBS owns it and it's one of their few shows with a bit of a prestige factor)
"Once Upon A Time" (because mother of god it needs to)

I think "Sleepy Hollow" will be renewed/is safe for a bit longer. Same goes for "HTGAWM" and "Quantico."

"Elementary" has a prestige factor?

That, "The Good Wife," "Madam Secretary" and "Person of Interest" are the only shows on CBS that get any kind of media buzz outside of the blah procedural audience they usually attract with their drama series. CBS owns the former three - Warner Bros. owned "Person of Interest" which is why they've treated it like shit this year, but they still gave it a final 13 episodes. I think with "TGW" also ending they'll keep "Elementary" and "MS" for a while longer unless their drama pilots are REALLY good.

But "Madam Secretary" is actually performing well... I think they might give "Elementary" a shortened fifth season.

Also "Supergirl" is giving them quite a lot of buzz.

How much of the buzz is because of the show and how much is because of the current SvB and other DC related hype? I rarely see anything online about Supergirl, while The Flash and Arrow pop up regularly (and don't start about you being on fan sites, of course fans will be there, I'm talking general buzz perception from online sites).

And I wouldn't agree on Elementary giving them prestige. It doesn't bring much award attention either. I think people see it as a procedural too.

I don't expect Once to get cancelled by next year, its average is 1.5 this year vs ABC's 1.2 and on a brutal Sunday night for networks, but they may have S6 as the endpoint anyways. Since it effectively runs two 11 episode seasons a year a final half season would also fit fine narratively, though I don't know if that makes them more or less likely to choose that vs a procedural

Comingsoon reports on "Supergirl" very often, unlike on almost any other CBS shows. And it doesn't have anything to do with BvS specifically, just with the general online hype for DC/Marvel series. You're a fool if you want to claim that there is not more reporting on "Supergirl" online than about CBS' procedurals.

"Elementary" is seen as a procedural, though, I agree. I have never felt any particular buzz for it, not even when it just started, let alone now.

I only recently saw some Supergirl news and due to The Flash cross over. Before that it was last year while it was still hot of its premiere. Whatever buzz it has it's I guess medium sized then.

"Supergirl" I always forget is on CBS, but the media does like it and it's a good show. It should be safe for a bit as it's done relatively stable for them and the network execs like it.

"Elementary" is a procedural but it's considered "classier" than "NCIS" and "Criminal Minds" for sure.

Why not? I don't watch it (it's not my thing) but even the caliber of actors reflects that. Lucy Liu and Jonny Lee Miller had careers before and will have careers after the show ends. They aren't going to be twelve-season nobodies like every single person starring in those other shows.

Ummmm, what does that have to do with the show being classy? Many shows with more famous actors have bombed. Nobody renewed them for being classy on the count of lead actors being famous? You are making little sense.

Quote:
Meanwhile, Elementary attracts the kind of upscale CBS audiences that watch its Sunday lineup. Plus, Elementary is one of CBS’ most DVR-ed series, so a time slot is not that crucial to the show’s performance. Still, if history is any indication, any established CBS drama series sent to the Sunday 10 PM time period ends its run there, most recently CSI: Miami and The Mentalist. Elementary is owned by CBS, it is still relatively young and makes money for the company, so it is likely not destined for a quick death.

OK. Does it attract upscale audience due to the actors? You're just jumping from some "facts" to what you think is the reason behind that.

Found this chart (https://pmcdeadline2.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/upscale-rankings-18-49-series-copy.jpg?w=970) here: http://deadline.com/2015/10/shonda-rhim ... 201596745/

NCIS shows up for CBS in upscale viewers chart. Where's Elementary? I bet even Criminal Minds is in front of it.

Aside from arguing who is and who isn't right, where is your answer to the thread's actual question, _axiom?

FOX:
Sleepy Hollow (I see it getting that fourth season, but that's it)
New Girl (I don't know if the cast is under contract, but I have a feeling that they would probably want to move onto other things)

CBS:
Elementary

NBC:
Grimm

CW:
Reign
The Vampire Diaries
The Originals
(I believe both Jane and Crazy-Ex will survive due to awards and buzz, but they will probably go to Friday after vamp shows get canceled/finished and CW can't cancel too many shows - the three above have syndication requirements, Jane and Ex need to get them, so another reason why they stay)

ABC:
S.H.I.E.L.D. (and Agent Carter if it survives)
Once Upon a Time
Castle (I believe it will get one more season, but the drop this season has been pretty bad and usually that continues)

I don't know how OUAT can go and Quantico stay at the same time, considering OUAT is consistently pulling better numbers. If one goes, the other goes too, I suppose. Unless of course OUAT's cast is very expensive by now.

In-house production. And the magic word - syndication. ABC stuck with worse (Galavant season 2?).

Disagree, both ways are possible. Quantico has a 1 season track record and we don't know what ratings it will get next fall. It could potentially tank. OUAT is an established show that this fall had ratings around +20-25% compared to ABC's average I believe. And considering the difficulty of shows on Sunday night, even average ratings is good for a renewal for either show that night. That's a strong cushion. Overall I would say the chances of a show as old as OUAT dropping dramatically enough next fall to lose that cushion (fall is what matters for its renewal chances, especially with current schedule of shows coming back in March, Once and Quantico have been renewed for weeks) to get cancelled is unlikely. Its ratings will go down but the networks averages to compare it to fall every year also

However Quantico surviving and Once ending is possible. Once is the type of completely serialized show that can't just run into eternity like procedurals, the writers likely have an endpoint for their story in mind, I have a feeling it's 7 seasons but it could be 6 also
