I still don't see how people are predicting The Amityville Horror to open to less than Hide and Seek and about the same as Boogeyman.

Why not? Same could of been said about Cursed or the Ring 2 opening to less than 40 million

Well, the fact of the matter is that Hide and Seek (an R-rated horror movie, if some want to call it horror) opened to $22M when everyone underpredicted it because of it's R-rating. Boogeyman had effective trailers, which obviously helped it immensly, even though it opened on Superbowl weekend. That could have been another $22M+ opener as well. The Amityville Horror has not only a great trailer, but I see a lot of ads on TV for it, and the trailer is effective enough to show that it *might* be scary.

I see no less than $22M for it, to be honest. I'd say a Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Dawn of the Dead PTA is achievable.

The Amityville Horror - 26 million

I'm not sure how this will do but I have a feeling it will do really well.

The Amityville Horror - $25.8 million

If it wasn't the 12098276628th horror movie in the last four months, it'd do much better.

Really not much competition for Amityville, its only direct competition is Sin City which will be on its 3rd week.

Amityville - 24.3

Im thinking more DAWN OF THE DEAD run than TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE.

I wonder if it's second weekend will be more like:

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre----> -48.5%

or

Freddy VS Jason/Dawn of the Dead ---->-63.9% / -60.0%

Am thinking, if WOM is good, TCM drop. If not FVJ/DOTD drop.

PLEASE amityville, i'm begging you!!! Breakout!!! Don't dissapoint with under $20M!

Id rather not have him comment on it especially with his bold text :mrgreen: . Anyhow I think the reason why Hide & Seek opened well is because as the old saying goes "stars do draw some crowd" which I believe Deniro and Dakota have a little drawing power (better than the Alias chick and the star of Van Wilder), and I also still believe that we are in the horror overload period. I would of agreed with you had AH opened in January or even february

Amityville Horror should have a Dawn of the Dead run, not a TCM run. (TCM had Halloween to help its legs)

or one of the older movies

Sahara / Sin City / Fever Pitch / etc.

25 million opening weekend minimum for Amityville Horror. The lack of any competition (even Dawn of the Dead had another movie taking away business) and the fact that it's a remake of what was considered a blockbuster in its day (the original made over $80 million...which in the late 70's was a LOT!) is going to help it do well this weekend..not just among the younger crowd, but among the older people who remember the original.
