This is an absolutely riveting drama set in an Australian women's prison. The storytelling is fast-paced and involving, and the ensemble of characters is colorful. It has a soapy, slightly vulgar quality, but also a definite intelligence and an enormous amount of empathy for its characters. The performances are top-notch. It deserves far, far more critical attention stateside, where its two seasons so far are available to stream on Netflix. (It airs on the channel SoHo in its native land.)

This is such an awesome series. I honestly believe it could be a phenomenon for Netflix if they advertised it more (which is to say...at all).

Interesting. I had no idea this made it to Netflix and to US audiences at all. Ive not seen more than a couple of episodes however.

I do remember watching Prisoner as a kid though (its an 80's Aussie women's prison show that Wentworth is perhaps an homage to or is it a modern sequel or reboot?). I take it this is probably similar but with better production values.
