I think now FEVER PITCH is a lock for an opening over $16,000,000. Solid.
SAHARA will gross around $14,000,000 or $22,000,000. Could hit or flop.

Good news. It should have a +$30000 PTA this weekend. $10M total is very reachable.

10 million... that weekend? Damn, I hope so man. You don't mean total, do you? Because I think it has a lot more potential then that, it's a much bigger crowd pleaser and has been getting far more marketing then House of Flying Daggers, which I assume you're comparing it to.
Damn, this is the point where Miramax drops the theater count ball as usual. I swear, Hostage goes getting smaller and smaller drops, then they start purging theaters. :???:

Amityville's theatre count will be less than 3,100.
Probably less than 3,050.
Similar to FREDDY VS JASON and TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE.
But still, it will rock with over $20M.

I meant $10M total, which as you said, is a conservative approach. Still, I want to see how it does the first couple of weekends in limited release. HOFD was considered a quite accessible movie to the U.S. audience as well given its love story, but it didn't strike a cord and take off. The almost-50% second weekend drop in PTA was an early sign of that. If Kung-Fu Hustle can maintain a PTA of over $20,000 at its second weekend before the national expansion, it should get about 8M the weekend of April 22 and blow past $20M when all said and done.

You know whats funny about Kung Fu Hustle. Two people I know already have said that the trailer looks like Kung Pow which can be a bad thing. I dont know how well it will appeal to mainstream audience but as I said the comparison to Kung Pow doesnt bold too well. In other news, I love Kung Pow and I find myself looking forward to this movie

Yeah, but I think that House of Flying Daggers was too operatic for US audiences and this is much more of a crowdpleaser, not to mention isn't going to have to have so many other Oscar-competition smaller movies hogging the arty theaters. And you can quote me on this: If it gets an 8 million + weekend April 22nd, it will make over 32 million total at least, and could do more then double that.

I don't know. After seeing the trailer, I just can't see how this will have mainstream appeal. I don't see it doing much better then HOFD when it goes wide.

The trailer doesn't do the movie justice, trust me. I've never seen more applause for any movie, opening night of Lord of the Rings included, then I have for Kung-Fu Hustle. Every single one of my friends from two very different groups, one of whom is very closeminded, said it was the best movie EVER made. EVER.

Doesn't it star the same guy from Shaolin Soccer - Steven Chow - he is a pretty likable actor on screen.

I hope you are jesting, sir
as you clearly do not understand the importance of Matthew McM..., P Cruz ( the ex of Tom Cruise ) and the hysterical one - Steve Zahn.
Anyone who doesn't appreciate the above - it is their loss. As just those 3 make this a film classic to be.

I really hope that SAHARA does well opening weekend. It doesn't look too bad and the buzz around it is really great.
FEVER PITCH ... I don't understand why people want to see it! I love Drew Barrymore but the movie just looks terrible. I'll still see it though.
April 22 Estimates
A Lot Like Love - 2,500+
The Interpreter - 2,000+
I'm surprised that A LOT LIKE LOVE might get more theaters than THE INTERPRETER. I don't think A LOT LIKE LOVE will be doing that great, it should do good but not amazing or anything. THE INTERPRETER on the other hand, I thought might perform like THE BOURNE IDENTITY. I definetely expect those estimates to change.
