Also, outside of the main theme the score sucks. A shame, I think this guy is doing the new Star Wars film too. Williams is still there but the sequels will feel like the rest of the Potter films

John Williams is doing Star Wars. That is the reason why he did not do JW.

This was so, so entertaining and such a blast. It's not perfect but I had such a great time. It really made me feel like a kid again. Both Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard were great (especially the latter) and the action sequences were creative and intense. I was actually surprised at how little was spoiled by the trailer as I was sure the actual invasion of the park would be the climax. I see this easily having the best word of mouth of the summer. Highly recommended. Also Jake Johnson. STOLE. THE. SHOW. Love him and hope he comes back for the next one. A-

JJ is the "someone has to stay behind" guy, right?

& yes, BDH killed it.

So this was a lot of fun. Once the I-Rex gets loose, there are a lot of intense scenes, much like the first film. Unlike the first film though, there are two characters that pissed me off in JW. The military takeover guy and the older brother. If not for them, I would rank this movie even closer to the original. As it is, it's miles better than the first two sequels. (Lost World isn't really a horrible film, but it's nothing like the book and that matters to me).

B+

Who has seen this in 3D, and is it worth it? It seems like that climatic scene at the end would be awesome in 3D.

Trevvorow shows a lot of skill. IIRC

Spoiler: show
once T-Rex gets her groove back with the raptors help and shitstomps the i-rex, it's just one. long wrapping around the fight. it was real cool to watch

It certainly shames the T-Rex/Spinosaurus fight in Jurassic Park III.

Post Re: Jurassic World
Might as well get the problems out of the way first.

- Jurassic Park is a classic on many levels. One of those is that it's a great horror film. Jurassic World doesn't even try to be scary.
- Early on, Trevorrow comes across as a whiny bastard who disdains his audience.
- Where is the awe? Where is the "Spielberg Face"? The only time I came close to being awed was at the technology of the Gyrosphere. By the way, they need to make the Gyrosphere into a ride at Universal Studios. That thing is great.
- I would've liked to have seen more of the "World".

However, considering this is the THIRD SEQUEL (none of which are usually any good) in a twenty year old series that probably should've never gone past the first movie, this is about as good a movie as you could probably ask for. It's very entertaining and the film greatly benefits from having Pratt and BDH.

And the goosebumps I felt hearing John Williams' theme once again...

Jaws III it ain't.

**** (A-)

I loathed the younger kid and his fake movie kid haircut. No need for the pointless divorce subplot.

The Raptor bit would have been cooler without the stupid Vincent D'onofrio "raptors as super soldiers totally immune to technology" subplot. Instead, Owen decides on his own to use the Raptors, but knowing it may fail. Done.

B/B-. Liked it more than Avengers 2.

Very entertaining and I'll gladly see it again in a couple weeks.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard were solid leads, and had better chemistry in the film than I was expecting. If/when any sequel is released, it'll be nice to follow-up on their story together. The kids here are better than the kids in any of the prior films, in my opinion. Sure, they're not great, but they were passable and delivered in the humor department pretty well. The score is better than those that may have already criticized it, too. I usually listen to film scores before seeing the film itself, but didn't here, so it's easy to see how few are recognizing it as it's mostly background music on screen.

Only grips really were the raptor soldier idea, which was just a bit too far-fetched, and given the history of the first park, you'd think they'd have been a little more prepared this time around if something went wrong. Yes, the I-Rex was smarter than your average dinosaur, but it didn't seem like the park could have handled a regular T-Rex or even raptor problem either.

And extra credit for giving Katie McGrath a damn good death scene! I really like her, and wish she was a bigger star, so it's nice that she was given a memorable death on screen here. That mosasaurus (holy largely exaggerated size) got two cool moments. A-

I'm surprised by the very positive comments here. I found the movie kind of boring. They really didn't invent anything new or showcase anything else that we haven't previously seen in the Jurassic Park movies. The characters are once again dull and having the same rehashed personalities of your typical JP movie. I found myself rooting for the dinosaurs to eat the people up especially that one annoying teen.

Really a great deal of good ol' summer blockbuster fun, Jurassic World represents the series' best installment since the classic first. Also, I really liked both Chris Pratt (no surprise) and Bryce Dallas Howard here. B+

Jurassic World

Jurassic World captures the spirit and intrigue of the original with the carnage and destruction of the sequel, and thankfully nothing from Jurassic Park III. It's built up well, with Treverow making us wait until we see full shots of dinosaurs, so it's well staged, and the dinosaurs are still as exciting and domineering as in 1993. Vincent D'Onofrio probably had the best lines of dialogue, with Chris Pratt also getting some good ones, albeit he's not as cocky as we've seen him before. Jake Johnson was probably the true star of this film for me. Funny and real. I liked it. The famous Jurassic Park theme tune plays throughout the film in varying styles which helps the film remain true to the franchise.

However, it is pretty much a remake of the original film, which doesn't matter so much because they make it larger and take a few new routes, but it's still largely the same plot. The subplot of divorced parents and the brotherly love U-turn is unneeded (as is the creepy 17-year old just staring at girls; bad writing), but Bryce Dallas Howard's character is a key ingredient (as are the boys), much like the original's Richard Attenborough (and his grandkids).

Did The Lost World and Jurassic Park III not happen as far as this film is concerned? I did wonder. While the first movie is referenced rather a lot, the other two are not at all. You'd have to wonder how the governments of the world keep letting these parks open if this film notices all three films, so perhaps it is a good decision to simply ignore anything post-Jurassic Park.

The finale is pretty fantastic. There are some nice money shots, and while it is shot at night, it still wows for a blockbuster. The old and tired T-Rex from the first makes an appearance (can't even outrun Bryce Dallas Howard in high heels), which I was so glad to see. He remembered the red flare from Sam Neill. It's all awesome stuff, however the film did start to drag at times, and it was pretty obvious early on that the hybrid was part-raptor. Anyway, Jurassic World is a true summer blockbuster, evoking the excitement of the original, and adding just enough new stuff to make it an enjoyable time at the movies.

This was very good and easily the best JP sequel. I actually thought the kids in this film and Chris and Bryce were improvements over Sam Neill, Laura Dern and the kids in the original. This was probably what elevated it for me. It was also very funny, I laughed several times. There was justa magic to this movie that was sorely lacking in the last two sequels. I really liked the end fight and the twist about the I-Rex's genetic makeup. I was taken out of it a few times by the fact it was emotionally manipulative with theiconic score from the original and the fact that there was very little original about it apart from the "humans will get bored of even the most interesting attraction after a while" aspect. That should have been played up more.

There simply cannot be another "humans get chased by dinos on an island" JP movie. They need to come to the mainland, or there is nothing left to be done with this franchise.

Post Re: Jurassic World
Jurassic World is a dead-eyed and noisily overwrought bid to revitalize a franchise which never should have extended beyond the nearly perfect first film two decades ago. As the quote-unquote story begins, the Costa Rica-adjacent island has become a genuine tourist destination: fast-food-devouring, merchandise-purchasing customers crowd in demanding ever-intensifying spectacle. As a result, its owners have forged a type of designer dinosaur. Part Tyrannosaurus rex, it is larger, smarter, and more menacing. And, of course, it escapes, forcing various island residents and visitors to unite to fight for survival. Those characters range from generic to downright grating (I found myself rooting for the obligatory children in peril to be eaten). Chris Pratt, whose gregarious presence was perfectly utilized as a space outlaw in last year's hip Guardians of the Galaxy, is hamstrung here by a far more typical role: an alpha-male former soldier incapable of fear and prone to earnestly shouting, "Watch your six!" And poor Bryce Dallas Howard navigates a sea of outmoded gender stereotyping as a female lead ridiculed for her high heels and chastised for focusing on her career rather than the domestic sphere (she, gasp, may not even plan to have children!). Her arc consists of the Pratt character slowly defrosting her heart with his unbridled masculinity. It is almost as if the film is overtly teasing popular-culture-conscious third-wave feminism. The screenplay in general is anemic. Achieving the feat of feeling both rushed and long-winded, it strings together instances of incredibly halfhearted self-reflexive humor, a vast catalog of groan-inducing lines of dialogue, and dinosaur-mayhem set pieces clearly engineered to recall the first film's best and most iconic beats, but here, alas, drained of awe, humor, majesty, and suspense due to a crushing dearth of showmanship and wit.

They do not even do much with the idea of, "THE PARK IS OPEN." The scene with the pterodactyls descending on the crowd is almost entirely divorced from the central action, which is more or less a dumbed-down, souped-up redo of the first film.

And I refuse to buy into the whole notion of, "Ha ha, the film excuses its own flaws by roughly gesturing toward the problem of vulgar bigger-is-better commercialism."

I think the only character that I really liked in the film was Jake Johnson. The two kids were absolutely unnecessary. I could see the initial reason to why they were put into the film but by the end of the film I didn't care about their relationship, their parent's divorce or whether the older kid was gonna cheat on his girlfriend with some random girl. More time could've been given to Pratt or something, who although looked pretty damn good I didn't really feel like he made that much of an impression for a leading role.

I found the one brother's constant so-so-excited-woo-hoo running away extremely annoying. And the older one does not seem to have any significant motivation or trait beyond being horny.

I also could not have cared less re: their brotherly bond, their parents' potential divorce, etc. Yawn to the nth degree.

This subplot really killed me. I can't imagine any actual military benefit of using raptors considering the setup required and the fact that they would only use it when the "tech went out." (Even though this raptor program would require an insane amount of tech.)

This is also a film where I found the product placement prominent to the point of distraction. The camera almost molests the Mercedes logos.
