I should be seeing the Fever Pitch sneak preview tonight. Hopefully, I'll catch Sin City tomorrow.
Who knows when I'll fit in Beauty Shop. It might have to wait for a weekend or two.

I just checked Fandango for my area (Manhattan, NYC), and all I can say is Whoa!
I haven't seen this many sold out performance messages since Spiderman 2.
| 5:40 | 7:00 | 7:30 | 8:40 | 10:00 | 10:00 | and 2 DLP showings | 6:20 | 9:20 | are already sold out in Union Square. The theatre usually has alot of sell outs, but I don't recall many times when I've seen it look like this before 7:00.
It's performing similarly in other theatres around the area as well.
If NYC is indicative of the rest of the country, I could see this opening with at least 10 mil today.
Edit: There is a downside though. It's not playing in some of the bigger theatres in the city, and it doesn't have nearly as many showings as most blockusters get in the theatres that it is playing.

My crowd report may be helpful, and maybe not. My theater complex is located in a pretty small population, so it's never busy during the daytime. I saw Sin City at the 1:00 showing , and there was about 30 people there, which was bigger than I expected at that time. What that means is anyone's guess.
The movie is the most faithful comic adaption ever filmed. Excellent , all around!
The trailers were Amityville Horror, The skateboarding movie (Lords of Dogtown, maybe?), a few others that I can't recall, and Return of the Sith, and it looked so incredible on the big screen. I can not wait for that movie!

I'm usually a late night moviegoer. And, from personal experiences, if a movie is sold out at our midnight show, it's almost a guaranteed $20M opening weekend. I've never been to a sold out midnight show that hasn't grossed over $20M.
We'll see what happens tonight.

Century 21, Union City
Time: 11:45am
Crowd Report: About a 200 seater 30% full ( dont know how it is for this time, never go this early ) The crowd was varied though, I saw 17-60 year olds, this could mean nice drops week by week.
Trailers - Amityville, Lords of Dogtown, and Skeleton Key. Not really any reaction towards any of them.
The Movie - Complete and utter garbage, what a load of crap...................... nah April Fools. I enjoyed it very much. Its not perfect by any means, but it was one great ride, beginning to end. It was visually stunning, you cant keep your eye on just one thing its so nice just to look at.
The stories broke down like this:
Little bit of That Yellow Bastard ( Bruce Willis story )
Entire Hard Goodbye ( Mickey Rourke story ) - Kick ass story, Rourke gives one hell of a performance, he plays the role perfect, he kicks ass and takes names later, the bad ass you dont wanna mess with cause he's not afraid to kill you. Story is good, fast, violent, over the top, etc basically like all the stories Not my favorite, because, but second best behind That Yellow Bastard Grade: A-
Entire Big Fat Kill ( Clive Owen story ) This one was the worst one, not that it was bad, but just WAY to over the top, Clive Owen is great so is Del Toro, but other then that the acting was somewhat mediocre. I know what seen Tarantino did, and let me tell you that scene sucked, Tarantino didnt do such a good job with that one. I did enjoy it overall though, it was funny and just fun to watch Grade - B
Rest of That Yellow Bastard - My favorite, Willis is really great in this one, always love those gritty cops, Alba actually did a better job then Dawson did in Big Fat Kill. Nick Stahl plays the Yellow Bastard, which he did a great job in, really felt that evilness and that coldness in him. Like the story and pacing of the whole thing, imo I think its the best out of the three, wasnt feeling bored it went by quick and fast. Grade: A
I've only read Hard Goodbye, and I gotta say its somewhat better if you dont read the novels, because you know whats happening, and its better not to know everything imo ( people will feel differently ) The violence was there, but I mean I dont get all this big fuss over how violent it is, it never felt like the violence was really forced, its based on a graphic novel set in a dark city and everyone is gritty and bad in one way or another, theres only anti-heros in here ( except Willis ) save the drama for your momma and have one great time at the movies.
Grade - A-

10:30, 11:40, and 12:20 are now also sold out. Only showing left is at 1:00 am.
Don't go all crazy with your predictions though. The Union Square theatre is in an ideal location for this sort of movie. It's right in the middle of a trendy area, a geeky area, and a few colleges. I think I recall even the Punisher had a few sellots there.
I would still be quite shocked if it had anything less than 8 million today, as it does have quite a few sellouts in some other theatres too.

Marv's story was my favorite. He wasn't about killing, though, he totally enjoyed sadistically torturing his enemies first. Fans of Frodo Baggins beware.

Frodo did good, in his 30sec of screen time or whatever, Yellow Bastard was better.

BJs crowd Report:
Movie: Sin City
Theater: Century 16 theater
Time: 11:15am ( was going to watch the midnight showing last night it was being played at the worst theater in Anchorage )
Seater / Pack: 750 seater / 75%full
Trailers:
Star Wars Episode III - The Revenge of the Sith: great reaction lots of Buzz
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy: lots of laughs and an extream amount of buzz, much more than Ep III got
The Amityville Horror: lots of buzz
Mind Hunters: got a pretty good reaction, I realy want to see it though
there was one or two more but i cant remember them
Crowd Reaction: there was not a lot of talking, most of the people just left after seeing the film. I think this has to do greatly with trying to understand the whole movie before giving it a grade.
Review: The Film was totaly outstanding. I went into the theater with high expectations that were all met. I loved every performance there was not one faulty actor/actress within the whole movie, everyone was top notch. My favorite story was The Hard Goodbye. Mickey Rourke was awesome, he displayed what I felt was the best acting in the whole movie along with the rest of the cast in his story.
The Style of this film was the best I have seen all year, maybe the best i have seen ever. It was topo notch nothing failed to impress me within each sceen. It was all very breathtaking because it was so perfect. I liked how each of the main characters narrated there part, it just made everything seem even better. The gory factor if this film I feel was blown a bit out of proportion, it was not realy all that bad, a lot like kill bill infact. Overall the best film of 05 so far as I expected it to be.
The Hard Goodbye: A+ / best and most interesting story of the three, with some of the best acting as well.
The Big Fat Kill: A / The weakest of the three but still highly entertaining.
That Yellow Bastard: A+ / Totaly awesome story though not as good as The Hard Goodbye is was still great, Willis displayed one of his best performances EVER, and Alba suprised me with her great performance. The Yellow Bastard himself was great.
Grade: A+

Nice review BJ. Anticipating it more and more with everything I hear about it. The general consensus so far seems to agree that the middle chapter is the weakest.
Quote: Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy: lots of laughs and an extream amount of buzz, much more than Ep III got
Wow, that's quite interesting. I was skeptical about how it going to be received - should be an interesting few weeks heading into its release. I was sure it would bomb.

Thanks  the middle has some great dialogue and the action is great also, I was just disapointed with the pacing, it was a bit slow at times.
As for hitchhikers, two months ago I thought it would bomb as well, but as time draws closer to its release date awareness is booming, I would not be suprised if it crushed XXX2, the buzz around that film seems to be getting worse by the day. I would also not be suprised with an opening wknd well over 30m at this point.

Animosity, is that good for your theater? Anywhere close to Hellboy and Kill Bill V. 2?
I'll be seeing Sin City in about two hours. \:D/

450 seaters and its better than Kill Bill but worse than Hellboy... but then again we have never done that well with R movies, being a family / teen theatre and all...so based on all the "hyped" R's we have had its doing a tad better than avg...

Fever Pitch
7:30 sneak preview, 175-seater, about 15 empty seats.
Trailers
Kingdom of Heaven
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
Movie
Fever Pitch was cute. It wasn't great, but it was a sweet movie with strong performances. Drew Barrymore, who has blossomed into one of her generation's strongest actresses, is believable as Lindsey, a workaholic who tends to date men who are exactly like her...until she meets Ben, who seems perfect. Lindsey soon realizes, however, that his obsession with the Boston Red Sox is *much* stronger than she initally thought. As Ben, I thought Jimmy Fallon was absolutely adorable. Granted, I don't even like Fallon that much; he bugged me on Saturday Night Live. However, this role fits him like a glove (no pun intended). I don't know, there was something about Fallon's character that just seemed...sexy....to me, heh. Wow, I don't know. Anyway, Fever Pitch works on many levels. We all know the story behind the ending of this movie, when the Red Sox reversed the curse, so a new ending was reshot. This somehow makes the conclusion more satisfying and endearing, perhaps because it's completely real and not a typical climax for this type of film. Also, this is a must-see if you're a fan of the Red Sox. B
In what should be good news for people who predicted high for Sin City, it sold out all four of its nighttime shows (7:00, 7:45, 10:10, 11:00) in 400-seat theaters. In fact, they had to have employees stand by the door to make sure no one stuck in, and they were also carding all people who looked young and had tickets for Sin City. Demand must've been high.
In other news, Beauty Shop sold out twice (once on a 400-seat theater, the other on a 200-seater), while Guess Who seemed to be holding its own, and sold out about three times on 200ish-seaters.

Sin City
3:30 PM (Friday, April 1st, 2005)
Trailers:Lords of Dogtown, The Devil's Rejects, The Skeleton Key, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Theater: 75% full (225 seats)
Films: Not anywhere near as good as I was hoping. The trailer was quite deceptive in the way the story was shown. However, the film is still a fairly good, if ultimately dissapointing comic-book adaption. A bit heavy on the style with very little substance. The ending becomes a confused mess, but also is one of the better aspects of the film. The acting was strong, and the effects were quite good, but become visually unspectacular after the first half of the film. Overall, good, but not great. Visually exciting, but not spectacular. 6.5/10 (B)
Sin City had 13 shows on three, smaller screens at this theater today, while Beauty Shop had 20 shows on the four largest screens today.

SIN CITY
4:20pm
85% full
Trailers: Lords Of Dogtown, The Devil's Rejects, The Skeleton Key, War Of The Worlds, House Of Wax, Star Wars: Episode III
Crowd Reaction: Very good. Lots of chatter and laughter, with a few gasps during the graphic parts.
My Reaction: I loved it! I've never read the comic books but it was still absolutely amazing. Very original, visually stunning and full of great performances. Glad to see Alexis Bledel had a very prominent role Anyways, this will definitely be in my top 20 for 2005 and is the best film of the year thus far. 9/10 (A)

Sin City
7:00 pm Loews 32 Kips Bay
Trailers
The Skeleton Key: nothing
Domino: whispering
The Devils Rejects: nada
Kung Fu Hustle: laughs, cheering, clapping...I smell a sleeper hit
Amityville Horror: whispering
Theater: Sold Out (400 seater)
Film: Wow. This is truly a great film. The beginning segment with Marv was positively Mind Blowing, with some of the most intense action ever put to film. That kickstarted the movie, which efortlessly glided through the remainder of it's run time, helped by great performances by Benicio Del Toro, Nick Stahl, Clive Owen, Bruce Willis, and Jessica Alba. The cast as well as the sensational visuals made this an incredibly innovative, groundbreaking, and well...sensational night at the movies that will stay with me all the way into my top 100 all time list. This gets a big, fat
A+

Movie - SIN CITY
Time - 6:45PM
Theater Size - About 150 seats
How many people - About 50%
Trailers
DOMINO - Great reaction, I heard a couple "I've got to see this!" from people
STAR WARS EPISODE III - Great reaction, obviously
THE AMITYVILLE HORROR - No reaction
THE HITCHHICKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALEXY - Lots of laughs, I smell a hit!
About the movie, definetely the best movie of the year, but just bearly. The crowd really seemed to love it because they were laughing when they're supposed to laugh, getting grossed out when they're supposed to. It was funny, there was a family there (mom, dad, and a ten year old) and they all seemed to love it. They were sitting behind me and my friends and the mom was really getting grossed out, it was really funny. Everybody was talking about it on the way out. SIN CITY gets a great 9/10 (A-) from me.

Regal 18-screen theater in Albany, NY
Sin City (3 big screens, seating 300~365 people)
6:20 (half full)
7:20 SOLD OUT
8:20 SOLD OUT
9:20 SOLD OUT
10:20 SOLD OUT
11:20 SOLD OUT
12:10 SOLD OUT
When I left at midnight, the closing box office person had a line longer than I've ever seen this year. Amazing business. I'd say 15 million Friday is a guarantee at this point, no joke. My 25 million weekend prediction is looking quite small. I can see this movie grossing 40 million by Sunday!
Beauty shop (1 screen, on our biggest 400-seater)
6:50 (40% sold)
9:30 (50% sold)
Dismal business compared to Sin City, it will be lucky to get 4 million for Friday.
The rest of the movies were hit quite hard by Sin City, especially Hostatge. Guess Who seemed to hold its own though, and sold out the 8:10 and 9:10 shows in medium-size theaters. The drop might not be that big since Beauty Shop underperformed a tad.
2 managers had to jump on selling tickets from 6:30 to 10:30, another understaffed Friday. I hope my GM learned his lesson
