Taliban gunmen attack military-run school in northwest Pakistani

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (Reuters) - At least 130 people, most of them children, were killed on Tuesday after Taliban gunmen broke into a school in the Pakistani city of Peshawar and opened fire, witnesses said, in the bloodiest massacre the country has seen for years.

More than eight hours after militants entered the school compound, the military declared the operation to flush them out over, and said that all nine insurgents had been killed.

The attack at a military-run high school attended by at least 500 students, many of them children of army personnel, struck at the heart of Pakistan's military establishment, an assault certain to enrage the country's powerful army.

The Taliban, waging war against Pakistan in order to topple the government and set up an Islamic state, immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

"We selected the army's school for the attack because the government is targeting our families and females," said Taliban spokesman Muhammad Umar Khorasani. "We want them to feel the pain."

I have so many thoughts about this line, that I want to think about it more before writing. As how far is too far?

To clarify, there is such a big difference between a police man doing his job, including questioning of trying to bring a suspect into custody. Compared to going in and slaughtering a group of schoolchildren

I don't know much about the internal policies of the Taliban, so I was wondering if they have any government or other supporters who know might turn on them because of this incident?

If this is how they act, Hopefully these people can be wiped from the face of the planet.

Honestly, maybe they needed this to happen. They need to be breaking down doors and rounding up anyone and everyone related to or having contact with anyone associated with the Taliban or Terrorists. Break this now, because there is no reason they should be putting up with bombings and assassinations and now this. This has been going on for years. Time to kill it now while the population is fully behind you which I hope they are after such a massacre.

I think what this does it shows that to certain people here in the West and to people in Pakistan that the Taliban is not some political entity to sit down and talk peace with.
