A waste of time for a very promising actress and comedienne. She should be writing and headlining films.

Re: Greta Gerwig to lead "How I Met Your Dad"
I love her and I think with it shooting in NYC primarily and her being a writer/producer as well it could feel different enough from the main series to distinguish itself. "HIMYM" is great but the 'soundstage NYC' has always been distracting.

To be fair, this will give her the exposure and money to make more indie passion projects. CBS really wanted her, courted her for a while and is moving the planned production location all because she joined. I guarantee you she's making a good amount of money for doing it (my guess would be at least $80 - $100k per episode) and she's young so I don't blame her.

Re: Greta Gerwig to lead "How I Met Your Dad"
Wow, that is really surprising actually. I wonder why she decided to move to network TV?
I'm assuming this will get picked up to series.

I'm assuming this will get picked up to series. $$$$$ If the series is a hit it'll allow her to make and finance any indie of hers that she wants to make, especially if the show makes syndication. I don't see this working though. I love me some Gerwig so I'm hoping for the best, but I think people are worn out by the original series (two seasons too long, and this current one has only had, at best, a handful of good episodes) and won't bother with a sequel.

I totally love her. I do think she's better than this but I'll definitely watch it with her involvement.

I don't see this lasting more than 3 seasons anyway. And Greta who?

Yeah, I mean the only things she's done that have had actual budgets are No Strings Attached and Arthur. And it's not like she was headlining those.

Magnus wrote: I'm actually fairly sure that Gerwig actually hasn't made that much money. Yes, she's made more than the average joe but she's not getting paid in six-figures for her movie. I doubt she's in a state of strong financial security. Doing this show for a few years would significantly help her bank account and her career. Yeah, this. Seriously, David, do you really think she is a multi-millionaire? Of course she is not starving, but being surrounded by much wealther actores/actresses in Hollywood there has got to be a point, at which she realized that if the opportunity presents itself to earn some more - why pass up on it?

Re: Greta Gerwig to lead "How I Met Your Dad"
She probably made next to nothing for Frances Ha and Lola Versus. My guess would be between $100-300 a day.

Re: Greta Gerwig to lead "How I Met Your Dad"
Apologies, but the whole Greta-Gerwig-needs-the-money angle is never going to hold water for me. You people sound avaricious.
Her film career is steadily and strongly on the rise. She has played prominent roles in a few studio pictures, too. I am just not a fan of this career move. I believe it is beneath her. End of.

I think you misunderstand something. I didn't say she needs it, but she most likely wants it and for good reason.

Re: Greta Gerwig to lead "How I Met Your Dad"
Because she's avaricious, Lecter. Why can't she keep doing indy/hipster shit until she hits it big in a promising tv series like a REAL actor!?

LOL. Obviously she doesn't think this is beneath her, so how can you even say that as some kind of an argument?

Re: Greta Gerwig to lead "How I Met Your Dad"
All right. Clearly, I am going to be ganged up on and my words torn apart, so I will bow out of the conversation. And poor Chip is just losing his shit, telling me to "fuck off."
My point was just: a CBS sitcom, derived from a series I already despise, was not how I hoped she would follow up the enormous critical popularity of Frances Ha, a film I admire a great deal and thought would set in motion an interesting film career as an actress and screenwriter. I am sure everyone here has wished the career of an actor or a director or a band or an athlete, etc. had gone right instead of left or left instead of right, and I was simply trying to convey the bad vibe this project gives me. Perhaps I did so poorly. Shrug.

Re: Greta Gerwig to lead "How I Met Your Dad"
I didn't lose my shit. But I absolutely HATE when people decide what another person should do. Especially someone you're not even connected to.
Now, maybe if you were friends with her and said "Hey, isn't this beneath your "immense" talent?" that'd be fine.
I would think you would WANT more people to know about her. Not less.
