Even Entertainment Weekly casually mentioned that this was probably one of the best episodes of the entire series and in TV history.

When was the last time an episode of TV had everyone talking and raving to the heavens? Well, I guess the Red Wedding episode of Game of Thrones, but before that?

Had The Shield been as popular as it has deserved (a million times) that would have been the case with its finale, I can assure you that. But, alas, that wasn't the case. So, I guess the finale of Lost got A LOT of talk, though not all of it was positive.

I guess the Sopranos' series finale? Or maybe the "24" Season 5 finale...

Difficult to judge before the rise of Twitter. But those two come close.

Yeah, Twitter definitely skews things, though it's still interesting to ponder. I don't think the season 5 finale of 24 got quite as much buzz as the first four episodes of the same season, though those four would be solid contenders. There's a reason that season became the show's most popular by a mile and finally won it and Kiefer Emmys.

And the Sopranos finale reaction was maybe almost as mixed as Lost, initially anyway (most accept it as a fitting ending now rather than a copout, it seems).

True, the immedeate reaction to that finale was very split, but I believe it is now considered a great ending. Either way, it was talked about EVERYWHERE.

Thinking about other episodes...difficult. Especially those that are not season openers or finales. I mean the series premiere of Lost had A LOT of buzz and hugely positive at that.

I actually watched Ozymandias a second time today. I never do that.

By the way, here is what Moira Walley-Beckett (the episode's writer) has to say about the phone call:

Quote:
I personally feel like it wasn’t open to interpretation. I would hope that people got that it was an absolute ploy on Walt’s part. It is the family-man part of Walt playing the part of Heisenberg to exonerate Skyler. I was hoping that it would be clear that the process of the lie and the subterfuge would be clear and that viewers would be with Skyler in their understanding. When we first hear Walt, we think he’s gone full Heisenberg. It’s outrageous and horrible and abusive what he’s saying! But then we start to put the pieces together as Skyler does, and I was hoping people would sort of be traveling that journey with her.

I keep watching that phone call scene and every single time I start crying when Walt says, "You'll never see Hank again." Marie's reaction just breaks my heart.

A part of me wants Anna Gunn to submit in lead so Betsy Brandt can get nominated too, lol. Give everyone on this show an Emmy!

One thing not mentioned about the episode is how tragic and sad, yet ultimately fitting it is how Gomez died. He's easily one of the most significant side characters of Breaking Bad, yet he's always been a second fiddle to Hank, so it makes sense for Hank's death to be an event while Gomez's death is more of a side note.

Retta from "Parks and Rec" perfectly summed up how I think everyone felt about this episode:

I dare you to find other episodes with 10/10 and more than 1,000 votes.

That's still a ridiculous argument. It managed what no other episode has ever managed. 10/10 with THIS many votes.

Yes, this is indeed VERY impressive. Even for IMDB.

Its IMDB. The same site that had The Avengers in the top 30 of all time for a full year and no this post was not to put down BB in any way shape or form. Its just the relevancy of IMBD

Some people are comparing this episode to The Red Wedding from GoT. I say this one doesn't go as high in the killing my feelings but it makes the tragedy longer, which makes it more effective, imo.

I agree that most of the ratings are to be taken with a grain of salt by now, but IMDB is still a good parameter to see how popular/well liked a movie/tv show is. And achieving a 10/10 with so many votes is still amazing.

Eh, no matter your personal feelings towards iMDB, 10/10 is impressive.

If I recall correctly, only "Confessions" and "Face Off" came close at 9.8.

Ozymandias kept its 10/10 score with over 25,000 votes. The Red Wedding episode has 9.8/10 at IMDB with around 16,000 votes.

Whatever you think of IMDB, as Riggs said, within the given parameters, it is still phenomenal.

Jesse Plemons effortlessly goes from psychotic nazi child murderer to awkward school boy. I thought they might leave Andrea and Brock alone after all they've been through. At least it wasn't personal.

So the ricin is for Elliot? That's fitting. Walt probably thinks Jesse is already dead, so any last heroic motivations are gonna require a convenient info dump.

Skyler being threatened by Todd and co. was terrifying.

I don't think my heart can take any more Jesse sadness. His failed escape followed by being forced to watch Andrea gunned down just wrecked me.

Also wrecking me? Bryan Cranston. Walt's humanity resurfacing in his desperate loneliness hiding out...and then the phone call to Jr. I cried.

And then the callback to Gray Matter and everything coming full circle. Beautiful.

I am so emotionally unprepared for the series finale next week.
