Irina put a contract hit on Syd so Jack had her killed. Syd thought at first Jack had been cold blooded murderer until she found out the real reason he had her killed.

Aside from Jack adn Slaone I didn;t like the episode...who gives a fuck about Sam, not me.
Archie Gates wrote: Since it's popular to dissect what is wrong with the show, I'll throw in my main gripe: it just has zero sense of realism that this group of 5-6 people can be allowed to work with each other for years, in slightly different groupings but more or less the same people.
What I mean is, if they had other agents, like 3 or 4 other agents that we would see now and then, like the doomed red shirts on the old star trek, it would make it more believable. I just can't suspend disbelief that the govt would allow this father and daughter and a few of their friends to basically go around killing left and right all the time, it's so extremely unprofessional.....
If I had been in charge, I'd have given them a new boss this year, someone in Sloane's current job who we hadn't seen before, someone who doesn't give a damn about everone's relationships and feelings, someone who just wants to ge the jobs done.
That would have been a great idea..someoen to tell them all to grow the fuck up.
And good point, in reality they woudl be assigned to different departments. The show always asked one to suspend disbelief, but this season I am so bored...that it bothers me.

again i just want to make a statement as im staying spoiler free
But isnt anyone else miffed that ABC promoted the crap out of Alias this year, put it after Lost, got amazing results then.....American Idol came along, bulldozed its ratings and ABC put LOST into reruns just when Alias is supposed to be moving into more cliffhangery episodes?
That pisses me off.

I have a question about last nights ep. The guy that Jack met before he met his protege. What the fuck was on that dvd?
The man's only response to the dvd was that he thought it was a rumour. I've replayed the scene over and over and besides the woman screaming, you can hear what sounds like some sort of wild animal attacking.
I have my theory but I'm just curious what everyone else thought.

Either it was something so incredibly random or they WILL explain it later on!
I thought last night's episode was rather good but completely irrelevant.

I just watched it again and I have to say, I hope the guy sees her in LA some time. It was nice to see Sydney on her own, thinking and acting like a real agent. It reminded me of Season 1. She needs friends like Sam and Will etc to just get away from the JOB and be somewhat normal. She seemed so much more relaxed in this ep than previous ones.

One of my favorite episodes this season so far.
If nothing else Alias remains one of the most entertaining shows on TV.
Only sad things is (for the series as a whole, but not for this episode) is that 30 seconds into their conversation Sam and Sydney already had better chemistry than Sydney/Vaughn. Sam was great for the episode and the series in general...even though I doubt we'll see him again I feel this will shift the focus/Sydney storyline in the show.
Satisfied

Sam who? I missed it. I mean was it some well known actor, anyone I'd recognize? And not a regular recurring character I figure from your post.

You know why that episode where they went undercover as husband and wife in the Russian stepford society was so good? Because they were actually going undercover, they took it seriously. They studied and put in effort, it flirted with realism. Like the scene where Vaughn had to learn to reassemble the gun in 15 seconds. Whoa, that was dangerously close to seeming like a spy show there.
In most episodes, it is just "Sydney we need to get this item from Mr Badguy's safe." And you cut to Sydney in a disco with pink hair and an Eastern European accent trying to seduce the guy.
If they would start making them do more realistic undercover work in which they try harder and they try to learn the roles they are impersonating, the whole show would benefit. For example, if they are going to go undercover as an arms dealer, then Syd, Vaughn and Nadia should have someone at the CIA give them a scene explaining various arms and what to do and not to do. Instead of the usual wig/accent/disco thing they do almost every episode. In the episode where Sydney played a nurse at a doctors without borders type charity place, they could have shown some of her trying to learn some basics beforehand, and later while undercover she could, as a subplot, try to help a legitimately sick civilian who had no part in the mission.

BINGO!!!
I coudl not have said it better myself, hwo many times do we need to Syd is a hsort shirt and a bad wig? She knows every langauge, every fight style..everyhting..what was nice about her goign upagaisnt Anna is that sometimes she lost.
The undercover Russian Mission was the only one where i felt like their lives wer in trouble (even though in mind I know they are not), there was suspecse..on every mission Syd and now Nadia are just so perfect it like why bother, we know its oging to be a success.

It's implied that they already know how to do these things, since they were trained. For instance the Russian thing was not a training excersie, it was the real thing, we didn't see them train for it before hand. Same with the other senerios, Syd has done this thing a hundred times. And they use to get some background (and still do at times) thanks to Marshall etc. They don't go in blind with no info.
I think I understand though what your saying, it just looks too simple and easy at times. The thing is that's what's made this show so good and caught the viewers attention. Viewers want to see the action, with some drama thrown in, not a lecture on the latest bad guy and all their weaknesses. And indeed this season it is coming off as if Syd can't do anything wrong and everyone is the perfect spy. The last episode was good becuase she made a big mistake and had to think it through and keep the guy safe, get the weapon and get them out of there alive. Syd and the show seriously need a regular bad guy again to make their lives a little more in peril. This semi, maybe Sloane and Spydaddy are bad, maybe Vaughn's daddy is bad, is just not cutting it. There is no sense of danger for these guys, just little missions.
I rambled, sorry.

Except there is never any risk of failure anymore, when is the list time Syd failed a mission or had an adversary that proved even remotely difficult..season 2? I mean, it is just dull, no spy has a perfect record.

Perfect point! Like I said they are in need of either a really major bad assed villian, putting them in peril all the time or a few bad ass villians that continue to dog them everywhere they go putting the missions in doubt etc.

You never did clearly understand my stance on the show, and I've explained it several times in this read.
Season 4 is in fact really bad, hopefully Lena Olin coming back will make hte finale not shit.
I'd dislike the show less of hte writers didn't make Syd so stupid at times, in 4 yaers they act as if she has learned not a god damn thing while passing her off as an uber genius fight machine. If this season continues to suck I will be passing on season 5.

Well ive not found any of "Alias"' first three seasons to be bad; infact "Alias" is my top show ever purely due to sharp writing, sharper acting and amazing consistency in its ability to entertain, and i cant wait for season 4. Everyone seemed to really dislike season 3 which i found great [not as amazing as the first two, but still awesome] and ill be a dedicated Aliaser until it ends even if a series is horrible beyond words. Which i hope it never will; even if it means detaining my dearest Garner from her budding movie career.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS THE BEST NEWS I HAVE HEARD ALL YEAR!!!!!!!
I AM SOOOO HAPPPYYYY!!!!!!!!!
I am so exstatic. Everyone should know Irina Derevko is my favorite character on the show and Lena Olin has been the best actress on the show. I was devastated by her departure and reluctance to return.
This, however, comes as a bitter-sweet excitement.
I am a senior at my high school and every year the senior class takes a 2 week trip to Armenia. I can't wait to go but we are leaving on the morning of the 25th of May. So I will miss the finale and wait another 16 days to see it!!!
O LORD I AM SOOOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!

About tonight's episode.
It wasn't that bad at all.
For a mid-season episode, usually where we have some stand-alone filler episodes (what season 4 has been in entirety and not good either) and compared to all the rest of Season 4's episodes, this was actually quite an interesting and somewhat suspenseful episode.
I guess they're incorporating some of the 'LOST' plot ideas and it didn't turn out too bad. It was about time we learned something about Nadia's past.
So it seems now that they are incorporating Vaughn into this ALIAS family dimension. I think it's a good idea to expose it little by little, a bit of a tease for 1) to connect episodes in an arc and 2)cuz nobody really likes Vaughn and this at least gives him something (minimal) to do out of the main array of the show.
Syd and Vaughn should definitely break up. Doesn't have to be on bad terms, they can just slowly corrode their personal relationship and decide to stay work-friends. That's basically what we have now.... it's barely a relationship!
Still cant get over Lena Olin returning. I'm in a whole other world. And I'm glad they have already started foreshadowing some things (the weird conversations between Jack and Sloane [was Jack even in this last episode?]) because it means, as Abrams said in that little article excerpt, it has been thought out as a bigger plot and not inventing it as they go on!
