Post Screen Counts/Crowd Reports for March 18-20.
This should be a fun weekend. All I know is that the Ring is getting at least 4 prints at my theater.

You wouldn't believe me if I told you (I can't believe it!) but...we are only getting ONE print of the Ring 2, ONE.

This is the lowdown of the screens at my theater, just to prove it to you, like, OMG...

Aviator - 1
Be Cool - 1.5
Constantine - 1
Cursed - .5
Diary - 1
Hitch - 2
Hostage - 2
Ice Princess - 2 (WHY DOES THIS GET 2 AND RING GET ONLY 1!)
Jacket - 0.2
Million - 1
Pacifier - 2
Robots - 2.8

Ring 2 - ONE FRICKIN SCREEN!

Part of the reason maybe because our sister theater in the mall is closing for business after this weekend, so we probably had to hold onto more movies than we wanted to. Oh well, so much for opening weekend record in my area at least.

Your theater won't be getting that much business this weekend, JMorphin.

whatever company you working for the film buyer is going to lose his job only giving you 1 and keeping hostage and hitch on 2... Im constantly talking to our film buyer telling him we need this or we need that  yea he gets annoyed but it gets the point across

anywho

ring - 3 screens
ice princess - 2 screens

we have also been told and it has been made clear we are NOT allowed to interlock (cancel something to add another screen) Ring...very strict on this for some reason

Is there a theater like across the street from it? If so, then they might have to limit the movies or screens so there's not too much competition between them.

1 screen is still OK as long as it's the biggest screen in town (500 or 600-seater), and we do see a lot of 3 and 4-screen mixed in. Diary of a Mad Black Woman got a PTA over $20000 while mainly playing in 1 or 2 screens during its opening weekend.

we only had grudge on 2, no one expected to be so huge....also we WERE able to interlock that one, so Fri, Sat night we basically had it on 4...

Ive noticed a trend with the 1 screen theatres...they all seem to be Regals (which is Edwards) :-k

Saw The Ring Two earlier...lots of anticipation and excitement going in....lots of disappointment going out. The audience were NOT happy. (Didn't help that the film jammed halfway through and it melted.)

There are some good scares early on but the middle portion of the movie just drags and it's kind of a lame plot over all....but hey, it was still better than the Japanese sequel which *really* sucked! I don't expect this to have much legs though..I thought it could maybe be #1 two weeks in a row until I saw it. I have to wonder if the WOM from the preview screenings might hurt its opening weekend even.

would like to point out the following 2 links...

http://www.fandango.com/theater.asp?distance=30&chain_id=REGL&theater_id=AANAZ_LIVE&refreshdate=3/18/2005&from=

http://www.fandango.com/theater.asp?distance=30&chain_id=REGL&theater_id=AANKX_LIVE&refreshdate=3/18/2005&from=

These 2 theatres are the 2nd and 3rd busiest theatres in the city of Atlanta ( i only know this due to jealousy of my theatre currently being the 14th out of 30ish busiest :???: 1st is an AMC near a military base)...on opening weekends of specific movies they are consistantly in the top 50 theatres in the country... my point ? each only getting Ring on 1 screen...go figure both Regals :-k

Maybe Regal isn't doin so great with Dreamworks right now. I mean, just look at how many screens it's getting at the Loews theater near me: 11:50am | 12:20 | 1:15 | 1:45 | 2:40 | 3:10 | 4:15 | 4:40 | 5:30 | 6:00
7:00 | 7:30 | 8:20 | 9:00 | 10:00 | 10:30 | 11:10 | 12:00am

I mean, that's HUGE. Way more then some of these one screen movies.

Looks like The Ring 2 is getting 4 screens at Scott's theater and 1 interlock at night. It has a ton of showtimes after 11PM, with 3 at midnight and 3 more at 12:30AM. 23 showings total. On the other side, straight-forward 2 screens for Ice Princess.

At AMC Mercado 20, we have 4 screens for The Ring 2 and 2 screens for Ice Princess.

its gotta be a hissy fit between Regal and Dreamworks, I hate to say it but this WILL hurt the weekend #'s considering Regal has like what 500+ screens in the US ?

The Ring Two
500-seat theater: SOLD OUT (as if that means anything for a free screening...)
7:30 p.m.

Trailers: Nada.

So you want to know how the crowd reacted? Whether or not they jumped and screamed in the right places? If the story was a solid continuation of the first film? If there were applause as the credits rolled, or laughs and jeers a la The Grudge?

I'll give you a simple equation:

BKB's Expectations (x46.2) +2 for the guy who spilled popcorn on me -1 for being only a tad less worthy than the first film = Ring Two. Add a few hundred if you want to count audience participation and reaction.

B+
