His movies might not be making that much, but I wouldn't consider him box office poison. The movies he's been in lately aren't blockbusters. The last big movie he was in was, what? Unbreakable? That doesn't make him poison. It's the movies.

Four and a half years without a hit is as bad it gets. The trailers for Hostage actually looked good. He has just lost his ability to draw audiences.

It looked good, yes, but it's not the type of movie to really do $20+ million.

Cellular, Basic, Assault on Precinct 13, Phone Booth; these all looked great. The highest opening for any of these was $15 million.

Why is Sin City in black & white? Otherwise it looks interesting.

@Zing: in that group only Basic had a major BO draw and that too a questionable one at that time. Hostage will not outgross any of those with the exception of Precint 13. Hostage is a failure compared even to those movies.

Trying to stay true to the graphics novel I suppose, trying to have that gritty dark look to it. Theres splashes of color here and there, for specific things.

Ok.

Even if this movie does well (which I think it will ), I suspect it will not help Bruce Willis much.

I agree that it's the movies moreso then Bruce himself. Tears of the Sun made 45 million against a 30 million opener and right before the annoncement of war in Iraq, which was a box office killer. It's true that he hasn't had a really big movie since Unbreakable, but look at what came out between now and then and tell me any of them could have been a hit with almost any other star (excluding Will Smith, Tom Hanks or Tom Cruise):
The Whole Ten Yards
Hart's War
Bandits

And that's it. No huge unbelievable bombs. Where's the poison in that? Considering Hostage was essentially dumped this weekend (and the trailer was NOT good), I'd say it just shows that Bruce can still draw some crowds.

Well we can always wait for next year's Die Hard 4.0 to restore Willis to his rightful BO throne...

Die Hard (1988)  $83,008,852
Die Hard 2: Die Harder (1990) $117,540,947
Die Hard 3: Die Hard With A Vengeance (1995) $100,012,499

Die Hard 4.0: ??? (2006) ~$150,000,000
