Nope, I know I'm seeing it tomorrow after class. Gonna stop by Kim's video and pick it up, watch it in a nice, well-lit place, and give myself planty of time to get over it.

*gasp* its dark outside right now!

So, anyways, for anyone that has seen it already or knows their horror history, why is it one of the bastions of horror film? I'm assuming its an American movie, was it one of the first American horrors and defined American horror as different than say, Italian horror? Is it just groundbreaking because it is so freaky? Or the social commentary? What makes this something other than an ephemeral annual Halloween/Month of October film?

I'm not sure about this one, but George A. Romero's is considered one of the best zombie director's ever. His Dawn of the Dead (follows this film) is quite a social commentary, though many of the references don't hold up as well today.

Goona go pick it up at Kim's right now! \:D/

Just finsihed class and need a little mid-day refresher before I start working on my biblio tonight anhyways. This could be better than coffee, I might get all my work done tonight cause I'll be too frightened to actually sleep!

Watch it not even be so scary, but I love working myself up into a tither over this stuff. I do the same thing for rollercoasters.

edit*** i picked up this version just now:

*Spoilers are allowed from this post onwards*

Well that ended...randomly

I saw that one coming only about 5 minutes before it happened. Than for some reason, I just knew.

Some of the stuff was predictable, like the daughter, others were not (the match scene threw me for a loop).

I had to cover my eyes for the entire eating part.

I dunno, I have no way of evaluating horror films yet cause about half way through my mind just goes dead (pun intended) blank. I'll compare it to suspiria and say the intensity, storyline, timing, etc was much better here, however suspiria was much more visually intriguing and had a longer build.

Here its like about two minutes in zombie #1 pops up. There's no mystery, they're clearly zombies. But on the other hand the movie then spends the entire time trying to keep the zombies out of the house. Really, I have a feeling M. night really liked this movie, because Signs is pretty damn similar to it. I mean, very similar in some sense. You haven't seen it yet torri, so I'll defer talking with you about a few of the details.

The one thing that pissed me in this film was that every single girl was an idiot and useless. every single one of them. It got irritating that the guys were doing everything. Makes me miss Sigorney in Alien.

I've not read the above posts to avoid spoilers.

I just picked up my copy this morning and will be watching it in the next few hours. The version I bought is the 20th Century Fox Remastered version with both the color and black and white versions on it. I'll probably be watching the color version tonight. I saw the first eleven or twelve minutes of it and it seemed to be a better overall transfer then the black and white.

Lol, I've seen it. It's on my frickin' top-100!

I'm watching this alone, on my laptop, at 10:30 pm. Come on the chat and hear torrino do a running commentary of the movie. ;)

This is? I didn't know that. I even went over your list, but it was so long ago. Let me tell ya! I saw the daughter becoming a zombie pretty quickly, but the scene where Barbara reacts to the match made me think for sure she was becoming one also. Nah, just ended up that she was an annoying pain in the butt that couldn't pull herself together because she was freaking out. I like how right when she finally does do something, she dies. Haha! But I only saw Ben getting shot when the men were already appraoching the house and shooting everything in sight. Dumb if you ask me. Ben knew the zombies didn't have guns, so when he heard gun shots he should have realized and done something to warn them he was alive in there. Not leaned out the window to give them a clear shot at his forhead without so much as a sound. I would have yelled from cover that I was in there first. Waited 'til they said it was ok for me to come out.

On the other hand I love how matter-of-fact Romeo was about it. The shot is so not glamorized or dwelt on. Its more like, "Oh well, sucks to make it through the worst night ever just to die in the morning. Woops." On the other hand when the sheriff says they killed three zombies by a shack in the morning (but no one was at that shack) makes you think how many other people they *accidentally* killed.

Its the typical, *If the disease doesn't kill you, the remedy probably will.* Classic. =D>

Anyhow, the scene where they eat up Judy and Tom had me cringing under the blankies.

I'll peak in, but leave a little comment or two out here guys, for the other members of this viewing that don't go to the chat. I don't really go at all, and might be asleep by 10.30 tonight (I know, I know, but I've been up since 7). We'de love to hear some of your thought here as well. Play-by-play of a horror movie. That could be a kind of good premesis for a movie to begin with. Kind of a voice-over at points, the way Woody Allen dubbed over for TigerLilly. The entire horror movie can actually be dubbed over in Torri's comments. Could be interesting.

I could probably do a "torrino's Night of the Living Dead" dvd since it's in public domain. It'd be completely legal to dub over it...Find me some funding and some equipment and I'll get rrrright to work. You'll have it by Hannukah, complete with a cover.

I hope you do join. To change your nick so you aren't "Guest109292929," do: /nick insertnamehere

The best line in the movie is in the beginning..."They're coming to get you Baaarbara." And then it starts... That whole scenario, with the guy jeering the gal and then getting hit in the back for it, must've kicked off because of NOTLD.

Yeah, just a red x like when there is no pic. I played around a bit, but it still didn't work. This computer is seriously old, not like the one I was on earlier today, so might not have all the software I need. Actually, I'm sure it doesn't.

What part's boring? I thought none of it was all that boring, but mostly because Barbara's character is so grating that I can't relax...EVER. I wanted to keep reaching into the screen to slap some sense into her. But Ben tried that, and it didn't work.

Where they first conent with with radioactivity?

Some of the issues I had were with how explicit this was. I wish different stations (or different reporters) had all followed different potential causes, and it had never been resolved. Would have given me more ways to be paranoid that this could actually happen.

Booo Rogue. Why? One of its strengths was use of shadow!

Neo, I went there and started downloading J2EE 1.4 SDK for Windows 2000 and it was going to take over 2 hours!

Ah well, where are you guys at now? I have to say about the zombies, I do wish it has taken them a bit longer to establish them. Like in Signs how you don't get to the Aliens for the first 20 or 30 minutes. And even longer 'til you see one. I would have like the story about the 50 or 60 people taking down the struck, and the news reports of homicide before I knew (and the characters new) that it was zombies.
