Thanks, guys!

neostorm, what you say is very possible, but remember, many people claimed that Star Wars wouldn't do well because it was too weird, including the entire cast.

Interesting read.

The only section I would take issue with is the comparison to the cast of JFK. I'm not too impressed with the cast of Sin City (in terms of being box office draws). Colorful, yes. Draws, no.

Glad you like it.

As far as the cast, who but Costner was a draw in JFK? Pesci had just come to fame. John Candy was never really a draw. Tommy Lee Jones didn't have his breakout yet. Wayne Night, Donald Sutherland, Sissy Spacek, Gary Oldman, Kevin Bacon? None of those were draws.

Bruce Willis is the Costner of the group, and you can match up others pretty well. I do agree that JFK had more well known names, and that's why I stated SINCE JFK, but I still think the cast is immensely impressive to have assembled.

My one argument with your prediction ... I just think it will open a bit bigger. Maybe I am wrong, rated R is going to hurt it.

More or less.

I agree that the cast is very colorful but if we're talking about being a draw based somewhat on its diverse cast, there's been a dozen or so ensemble films since JFK that shine brighter than Sin City IMO.

That said, the cast is probably the most youthful I've seen for a high profile project in quite some time. How that works into an R rated film, I'm not sure.

But I'm as excited for this film as any other this year.

I'm definately anticpating this and I do like the article by the way. I agree though that the cast may not be that big of a draw in this particular film.

You guys are more than welcome to disagree. I don't get angry over that. Part of the fun in discussing box office prospects, is hearing all of the different views. My God, it would be boring if post after post after post said the same thing. (don't tell BKB I said that  ) It would be even more boring if one person said something, and everybody else just posted "I agree". I wouldn't want everybody agreeing with me, because I know I'm not always right, and you can't gain other perspectives when there are none.

If I was to rank your points Mav, I would definitely put Competiton at the top. Not only does Sin City own it's opening weekend but Fever Pitch and Sahara won't take any audience away during week 2 which should help Sin City greatly in terms of total box office.

I completely agree with this article. Goodness. As much as I want to see Sin City, it's going to be another Sky Captain.... some big internet following, but not enough interest from the general population. It's just too different.

See I don't think that's necessarily true. They're pimping QT which will bring in a certain crowd and Willis will bring in a certain crowd as well. Not the widest net to cast but bigger than just Frank Miller fans.

....And, unforunately, I still think that would mean an underperformance, Loyal. I see a gross of no more than 50m. Willis might bring in a few million of business, but, like I said, it's too offbeat to really capture everyone. If the marketing picks up, then we might be looking at a little more money, if not..... I don't predict much of a performance.

The good thing is that Tarentino and especially Rodriguez produce their films at very low budgets, and so the film will likely show quite a profit in the end whether or not it is a box office hit.

Because both were heavily hyped on the internet and were very different from anything seen before and like Sky Captain, Sin City will likely not make a large amount at the box office.
