Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
Boarwalk gets some unfair flack - season 1 was indeed brilliant - even if the premiere was possibly the weakest episode (but still great).

Next week is the tell tale week ratings wise IMO. I really want to see growth.

GRRM has officially completed Dance!
I think GoT needs to grow by about 1 million viewers by season's end - or at least the start of season 2.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
Ratings rose 0.2 up to 2.4! A good sign, now we just gotta keep it going. Here are two things I strongly believe:
1) This show should have a HUGE bump (around 1 million) from season 1 to season 2, assuming HBO promotes it, re-airs season 1, and makes it easily available on demand. 2) The last 4 episodes of this year will really draw viewers in.

I loved the last scene with Arya and Syrio... Great episode again. It's amazing how great this series is so far. If only all great (fantasy/SF) novels had this kind of adaptations!
I'm hoping the next episode will rise too!

It looks like next weeks episode is going to really pick up on the action pace. Nice cliffhanger with all the swords drawn towards Tyrion And that Dortranki slave girl in teh bathtub can be my slave anytime

Episodes 5 and 6 in particular are supposed to be brilliant.
This episode was good - and I loved the back story - though may have been a bit of overkill for new auds.
And Dany is indeed hotter than slave girl.

If next week atleast holds that would be good considering the last two were a little slower. I'd expect Episode 6 and 7 to see strong increases. Great news anyway.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
so far my favorite episode because of how fucked up and creepy Lysa was. Breastfeeding her 8-10 year old kid and the kid responding "mommy I want to see the bad man fly" which distressed Catelyn. Wasnt the homoerotic interaction supposed to be more subtle with Loras and Renly? I never caught on in the books until much much later. Here in the episode they actually show it

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
It was always much more subtle, then again, I don't believe either of them had POV, so barring someone walking in on it, there was no way in the books to write this scene.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
None of the POV characters would have any reason to know/care if Renly and Loras had a sexual relationship, so it's not breaking canon really. Maybe Sansa could have asked why he wasn't married? I doubt it was that important to Martin knowing that Renly wouldn't play a major part in the series. Weird not having Jon or Dany in this episode. It felt for Feast For Crows all over again. Except much more satisfying.

Martin confirmed years ago that it was intended to be read as though they had a relationship.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
But I thought it would have been better if it was more subtle than blatant because of the humor that went along when Renly and Stannis were arguing. It doesnt have the same reaction you would think when Renly said that his wife is very much a virgin and then Stannis pulling out a punchline saying that she will remain one after him. I hope stuff like that would be left more of surprise to non readers especially when Barristan goes undercover as the worlds oldest squire

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
Fair enough. It's certainly a change from the books, but if they're going to focus on Renly, why not play out his characters a bit (not to mention it adds a gay element they couldn't otherwise address).

I have heard great things about this show so I am really interested in watching it. Can someone please PM me a site, where I can watch all the episodes in megavideo or wootly format.
Thanks

I think its good they spent more time in King's Landing for once as time was required to flesh out the story and get it moving, especially with some great exchanges between characters (ie. Varys and LF). Though glad to get back to Jon and Dany next week. I agree with El Murato though, I think the Renly/Loras scene was over done. There is more fun to be had with it being implied but I guess HBO just had to add the scene for the sake of it. It also wasnt very well done considering it made Renly appear rather weak and there was no need to discuss him becoming King with Robert still alive. The only good thing is that they at least set up season two by mentioning Stannis. Oh and the slurping noises - cringe worthy.

When they showed Lysa's breast, all I could think of was Dave Chappelle as Rick James saying "The milk's gone bad!"
Thoughts on the duel between Ned and Jamie?

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
I wish the duel had been a little longer, I was worried when if first started, but it was fairly decently shot (nothing amazing, but cool enough).
The good news is, the series continues to grow in the ratings, it pulled in 2.6 million for this past episode:
Episode 1: 2.2m Episode 2: 2.2m Episode 3: 2.438m Episode 4: 2.451m Episode 5: 2.6m

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
I know Jamie is supposed to be considered one of the best swordsmen in the Seven Kingdoms, but I think Ned held up very well. When the duel started, you could kinda sense that Jamie was toying with Ned, but as it went on, I think he realized he was in a serious battle.
