Though I do wonder. Will they keep Game of Thrones throughout the whole series (I'm hoping the first season won't be he last)? Or will the second season be names A Clash of Kings?

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
Quote: The first dab of Game of Thrones ratings trivia is in. Sunday night HBO aired a 15-minute preview showing the opening scenes of its highly anticipated new series. Here’s how many watched: 720,000. SourcePersonally I think for a 15 minute preview that's an awesome number.

They put a 2 minute Direwolf clip on demand!!!! I love the Direwolves.
I think the series will be Game of Thrones the entire time, and I can't possibly see this only getting one year, HBO will likely pick it up for a second season before the second episode even airs (so long as the ratings are there).

Spoilers are below, don't read unless you've read the books! When they die, I get sad. I can't imagine watching Lady get chopped down on screen.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
B.redy I'm pretty sure it will be called Game of Thrones for the whole series. Also barring disasterous ratings (which I doubt) a second series is very likely. I would be happy if they can at least film up to the end of the third book as that would be relativly satisfying. As for the Direwolves, im exactly like you guys. I hated the Red Wedding like everyone, but offing Grey Wind was particularily galling. So who's left - Ghost, Shaggydog, Summer and Nymeria (if she comes back).

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
I'm not as confident in the ratings MadGez. Only 720,000 for a premier considering Mildred scored almost 1 million is worrisome.
The series cost $65 million for season one. That's on par with Boardwalk Empire. BE opened with 4.8 million and was immediately picked up as that's the highest opening for an HBO premier in over 6 years. BE then declined, finale only had 3.3 million.
The key for GoT is getting critical acclaim for starters. Opening over 3 million is important, and growing rather than declining as the season goes on. I want around 5 million for the finale.
GoT doesn't have the luxury of a True Blood, which opened well under 2 million. True Blood, and other shows, are cheap to produce. GoT isn't. I think it's almost guaranteed to get a second season, but after that it's all on the ratings and DVD/Blu Ray sales.
Make a Facebook post, let your friends know, get that word out!!

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
To be fair that 720,000 was for not well promoted 15 minute preview. And people have been talking after it a lot. Personally I didn't watch the preview as I don't wish to see anything before the official premiere and I cannot begin to describe how much I anticipate this show.
I think the premiere will positively surprise. If Starz managed to premiere Camelot on par with Spartacus (which grew considerably) and Showtime's The Borgias have also posted a great number for them, I think HBO promo machine can push this easily over Boardwalk Empire. GoT has more buzz, better promotion (it gives off feeling of a big epic and event show) and obviously people react well to costumed dramas. I actually think Camelot and The Borgias did well in part due to the promo HBO did for GoT. They've put a lot of spotlights onto costumed epic historic/fantasy drama.

Heh, I've made one so far, and will make at least one more, probably two.
We're also gonna roll out some main site GoT content coming soon before or after the premier.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
Agree guys, ive put up maybe 5 GOT previews and posts on Facebook over the last 6 months.
I think the 700k for a 15 min preview isn't too bad, not sure what we have to compare that to. But a first episode audience around that of Boardwalk would be good. I have no doubt WOM will be strong, especially after the ending of the first episode. Episodes 6 onwards are supposed to be brilliant.
Fantasy is a bit of a harder sell than a mob drama promoted as from the makers of The Sopranos and Martin Scorcese.

If Rome managed to get 3.8 million viewers for its pilot, I expected Game of Thrones to exceed that heftily. HBO went all out for GoT, the promo campaign was amazing

It has an existing fanbase, has been hyped online and in the print media and is getting great early reviews.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
The thing is the sneak peak for True Blood drew 0.7 million few years ago and the 1st episode only managed 2 million viewers. True Blood didnt have the big fanbase as it did right now so Im kind of worried about GOT's ratings since it will be more frontloaded. Even the youtube views isnt encouraging when I compare it to Walking Dead which managed 5 million views oon its clip 7 months ago whereas GOT is sitting at only 0.5 million. I dont care much for ratings but when a show is expensive as GOT, it may not be renewed for next season. Other than that, the early reviews from tv critics have been very positive except for female critics it seems(most said they dont like fantasy to begin with) Encourage everyone to get HBO and not just download it from the net. I know it sucks for most people to pay premium but thats the only way for the show to get funded for the second season

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
Local newspapers broke the news that Gemma Jackson was scouting for locations for filming parts of the second season of Game of Thrones here in Croatia.
Which, if true, is great first and foremost because HBO seems intent on continuing the series before it even premiered. I see that as a great sign of faith in the show. And second of all that would mean that there's a chance I could be an extra in the show. I'd definitely try to be one, hehehe...

I've heard that the second season will be cheaper to film than the first, for one reason or another. But still, I want a full run, and it will need ratings to get it.
I think international markets will pull the US up, so we SHOULD be fine.

Would be good if you can get a small role be.redy! Agree I think the world wide ratings/sales will keep this profitable enough as long as it gets decent viewer numbers stateside. A friend of mine bought me a Game of Thrones t-shirt from the HBO store in NYC and brought it over when he was here for the F1 Grand Prix a few weeks back. This is the one.... I know its a Baratheon one but its my fave of these types of t-shirts.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
Rumor is that major providers in the US could do a free HBO weekend for the GoT premier, which would boost ratings (and result in a subsequent drop the following week). Same thing happened with Boardwalk Empire which helped it get 5m for its first episode.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
HBO does that kind of a thing very often here for its big premieres. I wouldn't be surprised if they did that with GoT. HBO is premiering GoT on its every possible outlet apparently. HBO Schedules 'Game Of Thrones' Premiere To Air Countless TimesQuote: After its debut on the main HBO channel on Sunday, April 17 (9:00-10:05 p.m. ET/PT), which will be followed by back-to-back encore plays at 10:05 p.m. and 11:15 p.m., the first episode of GAME OF THRONES will be spotlighted on six HBO channels simultaneously the next day.
On Monday, April 18, GAME OF THRONES can be seen at 9:00 p.m. on HBO, HBO2, HBO Signature, HBO Comedy, HBO Zone and HBO Latino. In addition, HBO2 will present the episode three times back-to-back that evening, at 9:00 p.m. 10:05 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. I like that they treat this show as the next coming of Christ. It probably is.

Hmm, I can't remember the last time I had an HBO free preview weekend. Showtime does it allllllll the time, especially when they're launching a new season of a major show, or some new series.
I only have HBO turned on when True Blood is on.
