Constantine increased from estimates, as did Cursed, but not by much.

Million Dollar Baby was even higher than the estimates. =D>

Like I said yesterday, after it wins it's much deserving Best Picture (which it did, incase anybody didn't catch the Oscars \:D/ ), we would see an increase in theaters and the grosses. I'm very glad that more people will get a chance to see one of the true masterpieces of cinema. :2up:

Good. Some improvement for the horror films, but this weekend was still pretty bad for horror movies.

Why?? Both are PG-13 Horror movies.. Why not??? :-k CURSED appears to have bombed hard and The RING flat out blew and wasn't scary in the slightest bit leaving me to believe that The RING II won't be any different... But you know?? That's OK Though cause the closer The RING II comes to hitting theatres, the closer Amityville is to coming out to and blowing it away.. I honestly wish I could get this excited about all horror movies(The PG-13 ones anyway) but it's not happening... How come the studio didn't make The RING and RING II R-Rated??? :-k

Ring 1 wasn't scary. had the biggest multipliers in recent years. Yup bkb, it'll be exactly like the first : )

Ring 1 wasn't the least bit scary, but all those people flocking to see it sure tried to act like it was.

Isn't that something?? :-k I've said over and over and over, what exactly is the infatuation with this movie??? It isn't scary, it's PG-13 Cheesy Horror, hell what more needs to be said about this??? :-k Oh well, that's Ok... Better to get this film out of the way 1st and save the best horror for last.. =D>

The only reason it had such a good multiplier is because there wasn't a Good R-Rated Horror to challenge it, but now that The Amityville Horror is coming out, I see The RING II get steamrolled by this and I'm glad..

If it had nothing to challenge it and that was the reason, it would have opened a big bigger than 15 million. But your example gives insight into why AvP made money too now ... pg13 rating .. nothing to do with the quality (or lack of) : )

I would tend to disagree. All BKB does in an argument is repeat the same mantra over and over and over again, rarely bothering to respond to dissenting posts. His posting style is childish, repetitive, and grating. He makes nonstop errors in grammar, spelling, and logic. Sometimes it just gets to me is all.

Well he gets to all of us at one time or another. But in the end, BKB is still just BKB.

The real question should be how the hell Diary did so good considering its sitting on 17% approval rating at RT and is not an action movie (which get typically low reviews for some reason). Its a theater show turned film dramedy and broke 20 million. I wouldn't have guessed it would do that well. Sometimes some of the black comedies surprise with huge weekends, but they tend to be the light ones in nature (Are we there yet, Breakin' all the rules) and that have big stars like Ice Cube, Will Smith, or Queen Lahtifah headlining them. This film came out of nowhere to take #1 IMO.

BKB...

Cursed bombed, that's for sure. But, it's the first this year to do so. Boogeyman, the crappiest horror movie I've seen in a loooooong time, did good. White Noise, which is considered horror but completely unscary, made over $50 million (and a $10,000+ PTA). The Ring, whether people here believe it or not, did scare people. Hence the awesome WOM, and the freakin' 8x+ multiplier. That's not something that happens to horror movies these days, but The Ring did it with a $15 million opening. The Ring Two is the most sure hit we've had in a while. Your opinion of the movie makes absolutely no difference whatsoever, because even though it's a "unscary, PG-13 horror", teens will go see it in large numbers, and it'll be huge. Undeniable.

the ring was one of, if not the most boring "horror" movies ever made, but sadly some people actually thought it was scary so the second will make a ton of money.

....meaning more than "some" people thought it was scary.

If it makes over $60M, the MAJORITY thought it was scary :)
