Yes, the drowning scene definitely gave me the baptism vibe.

It's not a big spoiler (or a spoiler at all), but maybe someone doesn't want to know the title of the last episode.

It's called:
Spoiler: show
The End

How inspired... LOL.

To teach MIB that humanity isn't inherently evil? I thought that was stated pretty clearly by Jacob during his talk to Richard.

Yeah, it's not really a good reason. Not many people got to prove their non-evilness, simply because they got killed before doing anything (the original pilot for instance). Even if they were not supposed to come to the island and were just collateral, doesn't that make Jacob the evil one, considering he willingly brought a lot of people just to be killed for no reason by MIB?

Who said Jacob isn't?

Well the white stones suggest he's good and black stones suggest MIB is bad. Surely, things are more complicated than that, but I think Jacob lied. At least I'm hoping he did.

The thing that makes me wonder if Smokey is nicer than Jacob is that in the alt time line the island is sunk and so you'd think that means MiB/Smokey is free and at large in the world. But the world seems a nicer place in that timeline.

Also, other than the pilot and to a lesser extent Eko, all of Smokey's kills can be written off as somewhat understandable. I have little sympathy for any Other that gets killed, by Smokey, Claire or Sayid.

And how can we whitewash Jacob's connection to the Others? There's got to be some revelation coming good or bad about that. And Richard? He's got some splaining to do too about his actions over the years.

But the show itself, in the writing and all that seems to be screaming at us that Jacob is the good guy so until they say otherwise I'm watching it as if he is.

Killing someone cannot pass as a good dead, whether or not those kills are "understandable". There's literally no way MIB is good. Nicer than Jacob? Possibly, but if island is sunk, does that mean that MIB sunk with it if he's been captured on it? Why does it have to mean he escaped?

Yeah which is why I didn't say he was good, I said just nicer than Jacob. But anyway the show is pretty loudly saying that Jacob is the better guy so I guess he is.

And no it doesn't have to mean he escaped, lots of things are possible. I was just saying that the most likely thing for now looked like he escaped.

I guess what I'm saying is this: if Jacob is good and MiB is evil, then I hope the show in the remaining episodes fills in some of the mysteries to make that dividing line more clear. Because as it stands right now Jacob's guys Richard and Ben committed genocide against the Dharma people, while Smokey's big crime is mostly killing a lot of Others. And the Dharmas seemed better than the Others.

So I'm hoping for them to fill in some of the historical gaps with info that will clear all that up.

And really what the hell was up with Richard requiring Locke a couple of seasons ago to kill his father before he could become leader? That was one of the most evil storylines ever on the show and doesn't make sense so far with the Richard we saw last week.

Actually, these were the first sideflashes I enjoyed. There were a lot of little nice touches to this episode, like the subliminal messaging in Room 23. Widmore I guess thinks Desmond is special or key to the island? I didn't really get that.

I feel like all 3 groups (Widmore, Jacob, and MIB) are all trying to appear as nice and good-intentioned as possible.

DESMOND!!!! SOOOO EXCITED!

Good episode. Nothing special(like most Jin and Sun episodes). Jack was the best part of it and he was only in it for a few minutes.

Desmond!

Jin seeing the photos of his daughter almost made me cry. I want to see him and Sun reunite so badly. Theory: Sun and the baby are badly wounded in the sideways reality...Widmore says that everyone will cease to exist if MIB gets off the island...does this somehow mean the sideways reality becomes actual reality or something if, in fact, MIB gets his way? I wonder I wonder

The eyepatch guy was also shot in the eye in the sideways reality, which was kind of hilarious. And I love how many times Keamy has returned to die.

Jack has become so likable this season.

Considering every flash-sideways shows the character(s) in a better position than normal reality, I doubt it's showing what happens if MIB wins. Even Jin and Sun were more in love, even though they weren't married.

Good ep, but something better happen soon.

Maybe the fact that he can see into the future?

When they transition between alt and island scenes it sounds like an airplane taking off and it seems to be getting louder each episode.

It was a good episode, pretty typical Lost. If Jack had been this likable in seasons 4 and 5 it would have helped the show a lot.

I know Sun bores a lot of people but I like her because she's one of the few characters who acts like a real person. Like running from Fake Locke, that's what someone really would do.

? They have been using the airplane motor noise from the first season in flashback-island transitions, haven't they? :grrr:

Anyway a boring episode.

Ah, have they? I rarely watch an episode more than once.

Rewatched a few clips from season 2 and the transition sound used to be very different, a low key woosh. In some transitions now, like in the pre-credits transition in this last episode, it's a loud high pitched engine sound for about 2 seconds. But it's probably meaningless and just done for style.

Despite the fact that not much happened, I liked the recent episode for some reason. Must be Yunjin Kim's great acting and Desmond's appearance.

So basically I think the same as trixster.

And it is amazing how likeable/interesting Jack has become, indeed. I didn't like him for most of S1 and S2, but after that it started developing for the better.

I just wish someone would finally say MIB's name, dammit. They really are going out of their way just not to mention it.

No, it's just this season.

I think it's more likely that MIB is trying to get all the candidates together so he can find some way to kill them, not have them leave the island with him. I don't think he can kill them himself, and I don't think he can leave the island while they're alive.

Hmm, maybe he can only live if th right candidate goes with him...and since hd doesn't know who it is, he wants to take them all... maybe...

Jack and MIB better have an epic battle in the end. Jack NEEDS to be the overall hero in the end. He is such a great character now. I agree with Lecter that he wasn't very likable in the beginning.

And Ben and Widmore also need to fight each other.

And Daniel needs to come back from the dead.
