At least lately they have not been nominating the Santaolalla guy. That win for Babel was a shame.
The win for BABEL was a major joke, but the win for BROKEBACK was well-deserved. One of the best scores ever!
Was there a difference?

Re: Official Oscar nominations!
well there were minor snubs and I think this is likely the least angry response to nominations in a long long long time...
Ratings should spike, people are looking at the best picture nominations list and have seen 3-4 of them.
Other years it was lucky if I saw 1 of them before nominations and trust me, compared to the average person I watch a lot of movies.
about THL winning, I don't know I doubt the Academy is going to lure in millions of viewers wanting to see Avatar win and get beaten by a film they all never heard off. Imo it defeats their whole new strategy.
Sure THL is great and "Avatar's story sucks", but I think politics in the academy will decide who wins.

Umm, of course there was a difference. BABEL pretty much had no score. I don't see how someone could watch BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN and not be impressed by the score. It was perfect.

Re: Official Oscar nominations!
I may have jinxed the Oscar nominations!
I can't say that The Blind Side best picture nod is completely a surprise. If Avatar's box office re-wrote the best picture race, and The Blind Side's box office changed the best actress race, box office influence was at it again when The Blind Side got its best picture nod.
It obviously has very little chance with its best picture nod, but with its nomination, the Academy will probably pull in a whole lot more people to see the show...

I just found out that one of the founders of our company's brother directed The Lady and the Reaper, and went to the Oscars in 2010, and is a member of The Academy. Sadly, his short film did not win the Oscar.
