nice choice....your main priority should be getting the vets to return, and to get people to post in the film sections insteadof the watah coolah

 Re: Administration Change
please, time to be realistic. people have put off realism him for far too long. its not hating, its observing. the folks in who mainly post in non-film related forums are the primary reasons that people are posting here less and less; the drama they create is annoying and unnessecary.
perhaps people need to recruit a new generation over at mojo.

 Re: Administration Change
atleast theyd attempt to discuss film's box office potential...there might be some good discussion outside of bkbs views of homosexuallity, ect. for once, even if its most of us saying how dumb they are.
the boards have slowed because people have left the film forums for other ones. if we want it to pick up, we need to go back to where it started.

i.hope wrote: Dr. Lecter wrote: Too much stress (here and real life) and too little time. Okay (but not what I wanted to hear). P.S. Good luck with the admin job. The Torri Admin basically quit over drama and not having enough time it seems. But it's fishy to me. During the election, their site was created. Apparently he wanted a forum of his own way before the start of the election, so he decided to create one in the middle of it for some reason. I say in case there was a backlash here so he could capitalize on members who might leave over the drama. And the drama itself felt like it was being fueled on purpose. Argos recently said it was on purpose too. But they manage to win despite a push from Argos and a few others trying to give me victory (32-27 or something) because they thought I'd cause all sort of chaos and destroy the forum. So, with Argos explaining that, it most definitely seemed someone was planning on a backlash that would result in members leaving KJ win or lose. Then, right after the drama was dying down just slightly after the election was over, they announce a moderator election which caused the drama to surface once again. And then, whether it be because they didn't have the time, because they didn't exactly care, or whatever, Torri wasn't doing anything he said he was wanting to do if he became admin, so that then began to cause drama among those disatisfied with him. So they call it quits then, but not before Torri decides he wants me to be the new admin. Which I didn't know about until I came on later that day. And why he would pick me, I don't know. We never got along, was it because I was his opponent in the election? I doubt it to be honest. I think it was because when some heard I was the new admin, they'd react suddenly and say enough is enough and leave the KJ, finding Torri's site which he and others posted several times on the board. I say I'll take the position, but only if everything is fine with Nebs and Eagle. Eagle then decides to choose Dr. Lecter for the position, which was a great decision. There are always going to be several who dislike me, and very few dislike Lecter. So it should have acted like a stopper to any drama, and the decision and Lecter have worked out greatly. Of course, this is just a suspition, and it doesn't matter now. The forum, while a bit slower than before, seems like it's back on track at last.

Pretty damn sad overall.

 Re: Administration Change
I dunno why theyd ever think a new site & forum would work. Not that its bad, but I think loyal said something like "theres a market for a new film website and forum" or something to that extent. Um yeah, its not 2002 anymore. The online filmbuff base is at the weakest its been in a while...Theres a reason mojo, kj, and co. have been regressing in the past few years...they have no way of getting new posters interested; i cant fathom why they think a new site will work. They might get a handful of posters to leave kj all together and post there, and then a maybe a few who split time at both....but after time, theyll wonder whats the point.
the mass interest in discussing box office exploded in the early 2000's because there were a few film franchises beginning whose fan base was among the big online film buffs. Star Wars and matrix in 1999, Harry Potter and Lord of the rings in 2001, spidey in 02. Geeks became obssessed with the films and their financial success, mainly because they made enormous amounts of money. It peaked when the sequels to films began to come out, and now that those franchises have all essentially come and gone (outside of potter, who will going soon)...the "market" for forums and websites like this have gone into a slumber.
The dark knight was the only "online geek" film event since sith in 2005, and that was after several years where there were MULTIPLE of them (spidey, star wars, lord of the rings, potter in 2002, final lord fo the rings and matrix reloaded in 2003, return of harry potter and spiderman in 2004). This is when 99% of the people who currently post here really got interested in the box office. There were several reasons: 1) the movies were by and large good films. So people generally anticipated their sequels. 2) At the time, the future held a lot of excitment. Again, "a sequel to the matrix!" "a live action spiderman film/a sequel to spiderman!" or "harry potter/lotr sequels!"-we knew in the coming years there would be tons of big movies to follow. 3)Naturally, those being interested in the films themselves liked how successful the films were, and thus thei rinterest in following the weekly box office is born.
Since than, 2005 had sith, 2006 had nothing, 2007 had spidey 3 but, aside from sucking, spidey had lost its "freshness" by then anyways. 2008 had The Dark Knight which honestly wouldnt have happened like it did without the death of its star, which pretty much rallied "geekdom" behind the film from an incredibly early stage...2009 has nothing (maybe Avatar can change that). 2010 has nothing. There wont be another real geek event film until the hobbit and final harry potter films come out in 2011.
The box office as a whole in a transition phase where the last of the franchises that dominated the past decade are running their course, while new franchises (pretty much just transformers at this point (and considering the piss poor reception #2 recieved, that isnt saying much) are coming and trying revitalize it, but they jsut arent getting it down. Back in the day geeks flocked to finsd the latest potter/lord of the rings/matrix/spidey news around the web, and since then theres been nothing but immitations that have failed. Film like Superman Returns, King Kong, Narnia, ect, were supposed to pick up the slack. Among themselves, pirates and transformers showed up and just screamed "next big thing" but pretty much committed suicide at #2...until it gets outta the transition, aint nobody new gonna really get into this.
Heres a startling fact: since 2003, the #1 film of every year has been a sequel of some sort. Prior to 2003, a sequel had not held the #1 spot for a year since 1991. Before that, it was 1983. Weve followed the box office in a time dominated by franchises; it only makes sense that interest will die down once the franchises weve followed die themselves, and this has slowly but surely been happening since its peak in late 2003.
The 1990s were dominated by original films outside of the batman franchise by and large; hence why we started seeing more high profile adaptions of well known properties, it was very easy for everybody to just jump on board the hype train. It went from studios having to selling the film for what it is with most 90's event tentpoles, to the studio selling the film around its name i.e. all the franchises that came out in the 1999-2003 period. No wonder they all made so much money; it was very easy to get interested in them. It went from "hmm, we got a few asteroid hitting earth films coming out. cool" to "LIVE ACTION SPIDERMAN/LORD OF THE RINGS/HARRY POTTER?!? WHO WILL BE CAST! -TO THE INTERENET! "ect. HOWEVER, since then the markets become so oversaturated with films like this, with every studio pumping out the next big adaption or remake of some sort, that it kind of imploded on itself. We're beginning to see more original films dominate and the bigger franchises failing to meet expectations, and its likely only to get worse.
I see the box office headed towards a situation similar to the one of the late 1980s and early 1990's. after decades of franchises dominating the big screen (star wars, indiana jones, superman), the box office shifted towards more original films, which may make more intersting in terms of predicting the future, but makes it harder for the subject to bring in folks.
