Does anybody know of any good books or sites that has plenty of good information supporting the theory of Evolution?

I have a family member that is constantly trying to "save me" and just sent me this "objective" book that examines Creation vs. Evolution. It happens to be written by a "former skeptic of the Bible who is the founder of Strong Basis to Believe ministry..." So, I'm guessing it's not too "objective" and I'll be shocked when he ends up siding with Creation.

Anyhow, being I'm not an expert I'd like to brush up on the Evolution side of things so I can get into a good old fashioned debate with him. If anyone has any good resources for me to study, please share!

It's a FAQ from talks.origin Usenet group that deals specifically with theory of evolution and challenges to it.

The way to handle it is let creationists have their say in religion classes and discussions. And evolution in science classes.

You can tell your friend he might have a point, in the same way one can find truth in a work of art. But that science also has ways of getting to the truth. They aren't in conflict, just different types of truth. And when it comes to the science of evolution you'll trust established scientific authorities.

If that doesn't work, beat him into submission with a bible.

I don't think logic works against people like that. Creationism, by its own definition, starts with a conclusion (God created us) and then finds evidence to support the theory, whereas evolution, like all science, finds the evidence and then tries to come up with a theory to explain the evidence.

While I have never "won" a debate against a creationist in the sense that I convinced them they were wrong (since faith does not need evidence) I have at least been able to refute their evidence intelligently, and that's probably all you can hope for.

Truth does not demand belief. Scientists do not join hands every Sunday, singing, "Yes, gravity is real! I will have faith! I will be strong! I believe in my heart that what goes up, up, up must come down, down, down. Amen!" If they did, we would think they were pretty insecure about it.

Don't mistake the tone for the message. Supporting the Theory of Evolution does not mean one is against religion.


The most fervent anti-Christian there's ever been, Nietzsche, soundly claimed that the root for its destruction (from his viewpoint) lay in its uncompromising stress for seeking answers. Augustine, Aquinas, Anselm, Dante, Michelangelo, Descartes, and all the others are not what I would call unenlightened, and anyone who thinks they are I shall consider scum.


Those who support Creationism are wrong, it's as simple as that. The Church has always stressed that there is a connection between faith and reason; one cannot exist without the other, they run side by side. Is the Theory of Evolution the final ultimate answer? What in the history of science supports that it is unerring? But it's the best system we've got, and has done tremendous good for us.

The most important talking point in this debate is something that box brought up.

Real proponents of evolution would never tell you that they think the current theory of evolution is the ultimate truth and infallible, it is just the best that science can do for us at this particular moment.

Creationism is a reaction against the teaching of evolution. A knee jerk reaction of those who are too afraid to live in the unknowns of life.

If that were so, then that "not everyone" would be able to grace with a logical proof that God exists.
