The Japanese film this is based off is quite scary, and Walter Salles is a very interesting pick for director. I think this is going to be really good. I think it will be very high quality stuff because of the cast and crew involved.

If this is going to be a prediction thread, I'm moving it to Box Office Bash.

Neither posted is beyond average, though the second is slightly better. The film should do well overall though, but not quite as high as The Grudge or The Ring.

Fairly good second poster compared to the first one
But the marketing is vanilla in the trailer form which is far worse than The Ring or The Grudge's trailers
Yet this will definately do good buisness

Exactly what I was thinking. I finally saw TMD, torri (having friends that work at Blockbuster rox), and it's really, really good. Not good enough to crack my top five, but probably number six or seven. Salles is bloody brilliant. He was a very interesting choice to direct a horror film. I'm very excited to see how this turns out.

Bueno, bueno. The only people who haven't liked it are ones who claim it glamorizes Che, which is far from the truth, since it's quite a faithful adaptation (at least from Che's work. I haven't read Granado's yet).
If the trailer says anything, it looks to be another film with some great (although, a little more unrealistic in this situation) cinematography.
I'm worried that Bernal will get enough votes individually, but they'll be split between Bad Education and Motorcycle Diaries. I nominated him in both .
I understand why it isn't in your top five (I might be the only one ). The Motorcycle Diaries can't compare to Sideways, Million Dollar Baby, Garden State, Closer, and Eternal Sunshine in terms of the emotional impact we've come to expect from the new slate of films.

I dunno, word so far hasn't been very good. I loved The Motorcycle Diaries though, and it's a great cast, so I'll still check it out. Anytime a movie gets delayed as much as this does worries me though. It was originally going to open spring 2004, then it got pushed back to October 15th, then January 7th, and now late August. Shit, the movie has officially been in the can since October 5th, definitely not a good sign.

Just go back to AVP, BKB.
Dark Water will do good business. Not Ring or Grudge level, but above Boogeyman and White Noise.
Opening -- $24 million
Final Gross -- $65 million

I never left AVP to go back to it and besides, it's true.. Japanese Horror does suck and so does PG-13 Horror... None of it is scary, not The Ring, not The Grudge, none of them.. White Noise was Excellent because it was more of a suspense movie than horror, so it's PG-13 Rating was acceptable..... =D>

Meh. I've never let negative test screenings discourage me about a film. That is, afterall, why they're test screenings. You'd be surprised what some editing here and reshoot here can do to the overall quality of a film. For example, Lucky McKee's new film The Woods had a terrible first test screening. Nearly everyone who saw it that first night hated it. However, Lucky took his film and did some editing, and the new test screenings say it's great - right on par with May.

Actually, I'm not upset at all in the least for the mere fact that the internet world had already made up their minds ahead of time that they weren't gonna give AVP a fair chance for 1 sole reason alone: Paul W.S Anderson Directed it.. That's it in a nutshell... They figured if an Uber Cool Director like Cameron or Scott weren't doing it, then why give it a chance??? They already made up their minds it was gonna suck and stuck with that.. The funny thing is is that all these internet posters and teens in general are about as clueless as it gets after repeated attempts in telling folks from Anderson himself, that in no way was AVP even supposed to be connected with the ALIEN or PREDATOR Franchise and was meant as a stand alone film like the comic of the same title.. Anderson repeatedly said this over and over and over and what happened?? It fell on deaf ears and posters whined about all this Continuity bullshit between the ALIEN and PREDATOR franchise, unaware of the fact that it was a "VS" movie.. Nuff said.. AVP was meant to be PG-13 all along and internet fanboys wouldn't accept it if it weren't R Rated which is stupid.. This movie didn't fall under the catagory of Uber Coolness Teens feel about The GRUDGE or The RING, Both of which sucked donkey balls and weren't scary at all.. Why every teen raves about these 2 flicks is beyond me and makes me wonder if any of you have actually seen a real R Rated Horror movie if you were all scared of The RING or The GRUDGE??

Well if you thought AVP was scary or suspensful enough to be a horror movie, somethings lacking.
AVP was fine, but it was obviously edited to PG13 to cash in on the box office numbers, which just didn't work as the movie failed to outgross FVJ domestically, which had the same premise, same release date and same audience.
Anyways, it was shabbily edited and you could barely see what was going on. The one liners were often cheesier than Catwoman (No joke) and the characterisation was just non-existant.
Anyways, yeah....DARK WATER should be a $50M+ grosser, and i rekon it will be Number 1 at some point in this lackluster August.
