This year, we already have Star Trek with 96% at RT and an average rating of 8.1/10.

2008 - The Dark Knight with 94% and 8.5/10 and Iron Man with 93% and 7.6/10

2007 - The Bourne Ultimatum with 93% and 7.9/10

2006 - Casino Royale with 94% and 7.8/10

Those are unusually high rating for what are mostly action-loaded blockbusters. Obviously, I'm not counting Pixar here and they usually always deliver anyway.

Candidates:

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Robin Hood
Iron Man 2
The Green Hornet
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Salt
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Inception
The Last Airbender
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Beverly Hills Cop 4

I'm thinking either Inception or Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I'm not sure Iron Man 2 can pull a TDK.

Inception in the low 90s, and Harry Potter/Iron Man in the mid-80s (Green Hornet could be around here too).

Iron Man II's reviews will surely be very positive, but I'm also unsure of whether they will reach The Dark Knight level superlative-laden hysteria.

Inception should get great reviews, but this project is a bit of a ? at this point. I'm definitely excited becuase DiCaprio is my favorite actor and Nolan is a terrific director, but in terms of reviews and blockbuster status -- it depends if it's more of an EPIC or more of a Memento/The Prestige type project. A "contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind." We'll see.

Salt should get strong reviews (I have great faith in Phillip Noyce), but I doubt it will be any blockbuster. I am expecting a dramatic spy thriller, not an explosion/shootout fest.

Another ? is The Green Hornet. I have no idea how this will turn out with Michel Gondry and Seth Rogen at the helm. What type of movie are we even expecting? Will critics be disappointed if Gondry does not go all-out quirky? Will they buy Rogen even if she chooses to play it straight?

I believe Robin Hood will be a critical success and a major blockbuster, a return to commercial form for Ridley Scott and Russell Cowe. I choose it.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice will be a hit, but get shit reviews. No one will take Beverly Hills Cop 4 seriously. The third "Narna" will elicit yawns. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has a fairly respected director, but is still based on a video game and is still a Bruckheimer production...

My thoughts:

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Being from Bruckheimer it actually stands a good chance but it will ultimately be compared to POTC and thus I don't think it can quite get to that standard so a score of around 75-85% is likely. Although I don't think POTC did get good reviews even though WOM was stellar.

Robin Hood
The early premise sounded best but now it looks to be run of the mill and probably will get a 60-70% score. Troubled production doesn't really help its prospects.

Iron Man 2
Inevitably will be compared to the original and like Lecter, I don't believe it will reach such heights. Still a score of 85% seems reasonable.

The Green Hornet
Troubled production, vaguely interesting premise don't point to anything good. Seth Rogen also is getting on my nerves and he'll have to prove he can have range outside a stoner, unlikely so I think this will either fail at 55% or barely pass like 61%.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice
A Nic Cage vehicle while entertaining never really does well with critics. 35%

Salt
This kind of movie does well with critics but rarely with the audience so an expected 83% should be the result.

Inception
Coming off The Dark Knight and having had such acclaimed movies in the past I see this Nolan film being the answer to your question. Above 90%. The premise and the cast also are looking increasingly more interesting.

The Last Airbender
I don't really care for this so yeah.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I
Will really depend a lot on HBP's score. If Yates proves to be inept in directing like OOTP, DH will be lower than HBP which I may say like 70%. However critics liked OOTP so it could be much better but I think Yates if he continues his mediocrity will wear out his welcome.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Now that Fox has taken over we can safely say this will end up rotten. 40%

For the remainder of this year I think Sherlock Holmes, A Christmas Carol, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Avatar, Terminator Salvation and Public Enemies all look good for T-meter success.

A lot of these... aren't really blockbusters. Inception, Salt, The Green Hornet all look like 80 mil or less films to me. Inception seems like a The Prestige-like project, Salt will probably have as much blip as The International or something, and I think The Green Hornet is a spoof/comedy.

Anyways I'll go with Iron Man II. #2s for superhero films have a great history of reviews. It's #3 where they fail.

Shack, looking at Inception's cast and the "sci-fi actioner"-genre..it is certainly going to be a bigger affair than The Prestige. Noe its release date too. The studio will market the living hell out of it.

It'll be bigger than The Prestige, but if it's Nolan at his more insular, it can't go that high.

The Green Hornet. Gondry doing a superhero movie with Seth Rogen and (hopefully) Stephen Chow will blow minds.

It would be easier to make a prediction on Inception if we actually knew anything about it.

I can guarantee Robin Hood will not. I don't think Ridley Scott has another masterpiece in him.

IRONMAN 2 could pull a TDK if RDJ overdosed and died during production.. Then and only then could IRONMAN 2 pull those sort of numbers cause moviegoers would turn out in droves to pay homage like they did with Ledger.. Besides that, the list you have posted for next summer really does look rather weak outside of IRONMAN 2..

Why?? Why am I an idiot for stating the obvious?? :-k I mean let's not start this TDK pissing contest all over again as to why the film was a success cause it was all due to Ledger and as much as you don't like to hear it, his demise did help the movie ALOT.. I mean you watch TDK now and it doesn't even hold up and I can't count the amount of threads both at CHUD and RT that reflect this.. It was a success through it's own HYPE

It's as if you put your hands over your ears and yell "LA LA LA LA LA LA" loud enough so it will drown out the truth and you can't hear it and you do this naturally, but it's true and you know it..

Although Yates is certainly no Alfonso Cuaron, or even Mike Newell, I don't think he was the reason why OOTP was weak by Potter standards... I think it was the fact that this was the first movie not written by Steven Kloves. He took some time off to work on his own project, but he's back for the final three, and I think we could see a return to form (and RT scores around 85-90%), especially considering DH is considered one of the, if not the, best Potter novels.

I wish Inception pulls a best-of-the-decade in terms of quality and breaks out with 300m+. Maybe until Avatar and post-LotR, there hasn't been any original film which is THAT amazing and broke 300m.
