Nice to see Dankevic with a nice win (beating Nalbandian). Would be nice to have one noteable Canadian player in singles... we have a couple in golf.

Woah. Fed has a cake walk to the finals now. Unless Safin is finally playing up to his ability for more then one match. And Ivonavich was like a millimeter away from losing.

Yeah, I'm not really expecting Safin to make a run to the Semis, but its his best win in a while. And stops Novak's streak of ...5? straight semi finals in GS events.

Re: The Tennis Thread - Wimbledon '08
I had a semi-dream where I caught a blurb within a dream that Roddick beat Federer 6-2 6-2 6-2 to end Federer's streak. In my dream though, this took place in the early rounds. I haven't seen the draw so I don't know if that's possible.

In fact, I don't think they could possibly play each other until the final. Okay, so it's not possible for Roddick to beat Federer in the early rounds but it would be possible in the final so there is a possibility of my dream being partially true. ** Roddick is seeded 6th and on the other side of the draw. Roddick Vs Federer Final. Roddick sweeps and I earn the title of wokj sports psychic!

Damn it Andy, you had a cake walk into the semi's against Nadal. Oh well, at least Gasquet won.

Re: The Tennis Thread - Wimbledon '08
This is so sick. I pick Roddick in my dream and he flames out this early...On Grass!! This is impossible. Roddick has got to be one of the most unremarkable grand slam winners in history. All flash and no substance. Boo.
I'm going to predict Venus and Serena to lose over the weekend and Federer to lose to Nadal in the hopes some opposite magic happens.

Re: The Tennis Thread - Wimbledon '08
Whoa, I was NOT expecting that from Ivanovic.
I have no idea what'll happen in the women's draw now... but in a way that makes it more interesting than the men's draw easily. I don't think it'll be Jankovic, she hasn't proven she can get over the hump IMO, plus she has Venus in the quarters. Ditto Dementieva, I see another letdown.
I'm not that confident in Serena, but if her only major hurdle is Kuznetsova until the semis, I guess I could see her getting that far. Though it wouldn't surprise me if an unknown get her too.
It wouldn't surprise me if someone totally random like Peer one, but I think the final 4 will be
Vaidisova vs Serena
Venus vs Safina
Vaidisova vs Venus final. Vaidisova wins and becomes Sharapova 2 (or Kournakoiva 3).

If Venus gets to the final she isn't losing to anyone except her sister.

Soooooooo fourth round draw. Roger Federer SUI (1) v Lleyton Hewitt AUS (20) Fernando Verdasco ESP (22) v Mario Ancic CRO Marat Safin RUS v Stanislas Wawrinka SUI (13) Marcos Baghdatis CYP (10) v Feliciano Lopez ESP (31) Janko Tipsarevic SRB v Rainer Schuettler GER Marin Cilic CRO v Arnaud Clement FRA Richard Gasquet FRA (8) v Andy Murray GBR (12) Mikhail Youzhny RUS (17) v Rafael Nadal ESP (2) Pretty tough for Federer actually, Hewitt then possibly Ancic then Safin (if he holds his form) before the final? I'd love to see Rafa take on Murray in the quarters so i'll be rooting for both of them. Jie Zheng CHN v Agnes Szavay HUN (15) Nicole Vaidisova CZE (18) v Anna Chakvetadze RUS (8) Svetlana Kuznetsova RUS (4) v Agnieszka Radwanska POL (14) Bethanie Mattek USA v Serena Williams USA (6) Elena Dementieva RUS (5) v Shahar Peer ISR (24) Nadia Petrova RUS (21) v Alla Kudryavtseva RUS Venus Williams USA (7) v Alisa Kleybanova RUS Tamarine Tanasugarn THA v Jelena Jankovic SRB (2) It's all about the Williams' really, although i'm still holding out hope for Jankovic

Re: The Tennis Thread - Wimbledon '08
That Verdasco-Ancic match appears to be full of drama... I wouldn't know, because ESPN thinks continuing to show Federer once he's up 2 sets and a break is more interesting than their 5th set. I can't even blame them for making that choice (or showing Nadal shitting on his opponent yesterday over the Stepanek-Youzhney 5th set), but could they even give us updates? They didn't mention it at all past the 4th set, it's like they were afraid to show a better match was on that they didn't want to show. It's still on now, but naturally it'd be more interesting to show Serena shitting on her opponent. I'd rather watch the boxscores of the Ancic match than that to be honest... whatev.

The Serena match isn't even live, and the Ancic match is 7-7 in the fifth. Sadly, it's expected by NBC.
