The mods and admins have reviewed and conferred the events that transpired in The Water Cooler on Sunday and have come to the following conclusions:

> A shitty thing was done on Sunday to an innocent and valued member of the community. It was instigated by a mod and a poster who shall go unnamed at this time so as to warrant a new bullet point.

> The shitty thing was instigated by Christian and Korrgan. Evidently, the former provided the latter with (erroneous) information about another poster who, at this time (see above bullet point for reason), shall go unnamed, indicating that said poster might be a double account. The latter then saw fit to take forum law into their own hands and threw said poster to the lions, the lions in this case being the surprisingly - and depressingly - mob happy KJ denizens.

> In case you hadn't guessed, the aforementioned unnamed poster was Libs. Who, let it be said at this time, is not filmlover's double account. What transpired in the thread was disappointing and, at times, bloody pathetic. It quickly devolved into a witchhunt, with numerous posters leaping into the fray and saying some pretty abhorrent things. Some of these posters we expected more of, others pretty much played to par. What should have always been a matter dealt with in private by forum staffers, turned into a public display of character assassination and personal attacks. For shame.


Now, this issue is unlikely to be resolved here and now, but measures can - and are being - taken to try to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Breaches of privacy on this level will not be tolerated at KJ. No matter how nice and cuddly they may be.

These posters, in the numerous threads relating to this childish and pathetic drama, personally attacked each other and other members on many occasions. Hopefully this will serve as a lesson to them that we will no longer accept the kind of behaviour displayed in those threads. Guys, if you don't have anything nice to say, tell it to the mods or shut the fuck up.

I think that's really unfair to say.

If someone is in the mod position of leaking out info to another party, it goes against the confidential agreement.

Christian was a great mod and is a great guy who had a massive lapse of judgement. It's sad that he resigned, but there was absolutely no way that he could've been kept on as a mod given the circumstances. It's a testament to his character that he decided to step down. Hopefully he'll continue posting regardless, cos he's a top bloke and one of my personal faves on the site regardless of this mishap.

Is it possible a little more specific reasons were given not named Korrgan?

I decided some time ago I didn't want to be involved in any drama and such, and haven't been for some time, and Ive generally moved out of caring all that much about what happens here or anywhere online, but... I don't really like getting hit with PMs and IMs over this asking me to be the middle man to figure out why they were banned, etc. I think they just want to know some specifics, don't really think anyone is complaining over being banned really, but mostly asking why.

Oh I wasn't saying that it would have been unfair for you to remove his mod-ness, I was referring to the fact that Roid implied that Christian only resigned because he new he was going to be forced to anyways...but re-reading Roid's post, the reference could have been ambiguous and he might have just been saying that they respect his decision because they would have done to him the same. Anyways, nevermind.

I don't think the reference was in any way implying that, rather it meant that even if he hadn't resigned, WoKJ simply can't tolerate personal information being given out by it's mods, regardless of how great the mod may have been, and make no mistake, Christian was a great mod.

I'm wondering if there is some other place the majority of KJ's denizens go to talk about movies, because this ridiculous, petty bullshit has completely overrun what (I always thought) this place was largely supposed to be about.

Granted, the Water Cooler can be a decently fun and entertaining place sometimes, but it seems like it has become the main thrust of the entire community.

Hopefully the events of the past couple days reverse this trend. I'd like to see some effort made to get this back to a place where people come to talk about movies, music, videogames, or whatever art is currently blowing their skirt up, and not a place where people come to act like eighth graders. I'm not under any delusion that I haven't said/done stupid shit here, but I'm hoping as a community we can figure this out and get the ship righted again.

I'll play devil's advocate and say this is going too far. Korrgan's ban you can make a case for (though she was seemingly just stating what she heard), the rest didn't act any better or worse than they normally do in "dramahz" situations like this. Frankly if you wanted more people to be punished, I should've been first on the list... I'm equally as guilty as Korrgan and Christian for blowing up this mess. I'll gladly accept a ban to be honest, I deserve it and it'd probably do me well to take a week off.
