Nebs wrote: No joke, have a feeling it will dissapoint hugely after this weekend. And it will open close to $3m less than Elektra.
Elektra sits at $23 million right now. It opened to $12.5 million. Even if The Wedding Date only reaches $10 million this weekend, you think it can't make a 2.3x multiplier and pass Elektra?

Nebs, your projections are low. Using the weekend multiplier for Darkness Falls, which opened on a Super Bowl weekend too, Boogeyman will gross 21.4M for the weekend.

If it does that, that's a 100% for me for that movie. \:D/

Damn, i was right to have put "The Wedding Date" in my ones to watch list, but wrong to have went low when the bad reviews and low count came rolling out.

Eh, if not for that dreadful RT score, it might...but now don't think so. Anyway, it's just a feeling...
...as it's that Boogeyman will drop today, where Darkness Falls didn't.
But, indeed, projections might be low, feel free anyone to make improved ones.

Oh, since Racing Stripes should have the highest multiplier (close to 4 even with huge Sunday drop), I still see it end up in top 10 with $3.8M.

Great for Boogeyman. It might not fall hard next week since many people might be putting the movie off until next weekend. Expect good holds next weekend.

Wow. Very impressive Friday numbers. The superbowl will defintely balance it out though, especially for movies like Boogeyman.
The Wedding Date really surprised as many posters mentioned with its low theatre count. I wonder if they will think about expanding to at least 500-700 more theatres next weekend for Valentine's Day. Maybe that was their plan.... to see how it plays out, if it will bomb or not, to have a better idea of what to do on Valentine's weekend.
All the movies had amazing week-to-week drops (except for the expected Hide and Seek) and after Sunday, the drops should be moderate. I think The Wedding Date will even benefit from the Superbowl, perfect counter-programming for women over the weekend!
I think the Wedding Date could climb up to $13 million
Boogeyman should do around $20-22 million; anything over that range would be quite impressive
Great drops for Million Dollar Baby, Aviator, In Good Company and a stellar almost no drop for Sideways!

It still has a chance. A 3x multiplier for a holdover is not that hard, even on Superbowl weekend.

Agreed. Without Superbowl, most films have 3.2-3.5 multiplier and 4.0-4.5 for kid movies this time of the year. With Superbowl, it will only cut 0.2 away from the multiplier.

Disagreed.
Friday: $3.10 (+190%)
Saturday: $4.16 (+34%)
Sunday: $1.46 (-65%)
3-Day: $8.7
Well, it will be close, but that's about how much White Noise increased on its 2nd Sat and how much The Butterfly Effect dropped on Superbowl Sunday.

The problem is that because the movies will drop so hard on Sunday, more people will go to the movies on Saturday, making the increases bigger.
