For a while now the movie-related forums have been not getting nearly as many posts compared to the non-movie forums. This is getting away from the whole reason I gather KJ was created: to be a place to discuss movies first and foremost but with not as restrictive moderation as BOM. KJ is getting away from what it should be about. Forums such as The Water Cooler and especially The Politiko Palace are just serving to drive the attention further away from the whole point of the forum/site in general.

and really, the Box Office Bash to me isn't the same anymore as it use to be.

There is an ignore function for a reason. Use it. If you don't, you have no one to blame but yourself.

The reason why the BO forum is slow is because its september where no interesting movie is playing. Same thing always happens each year whereas just months ago we saw alot of TDK threads in the forum. Again its the nature of the beast

It's not just September. It's all year that the WC and others get more interest, which shouldn't be what KJ wants for itself.

These things always go in cycles... you're 40 some odd days away from the Presidential election and talk is going to be heavy now - it always is at this stage during each election cycle. Fast forward to this spring, and I doubt that you'll still have people discussing/tracking the elections while ignoring all the big spring/summer movie releases.

As for the WC, it's always been popular around here, and likely always will simply because we've always been a fairly tight knit community.

But, you should know this community has always been about the video game forum, first and foremost. The movie stuff is secondary.

There's no good reason to have a politics forum. No one's mind is going to be changed and if I do, I'm sure there are plenty of other better places to get political coverage; no need to bring it where it doesn't really belong.

How do you determine what belongs here and what not?

Why discuss anything? Will anybody's mind be changed about their movie preference? If they believe in UFOs? If they think Selma Hayek is pretty? If they believe in God?

The point is, it is fun to debate all these things, and even if you don't necessarily change your mind, these debates can challenge your views, make you rethink your position, and end up strengthening them.

If you cut everything out, but movies... you'd lose a lot of people, and as a result lose a lot of movie discussion. Lord knows I'm not here for the movie discussion. It's why nearly every board everywhere (whether it is a gaming forum or movie forum) has forums like the water cooler.

I'm actually surprised that you find it odd that there is a lot of politcal discussion happening now, or that the WC is used frequently. None of that is a very new concept, or different from any other forum on the net.

Such forums contain topics people take more personally which lead to more arguments, unrest, and cruelty. Cut them out, and you eliminate most of that.

As for those who would leave if they were cut out, who cares? Let them go.

Most of the worst arguments ever here - that have led to hurt feelings - have been around movie discussions. Perhaps we should eliminate them?

yeah. the movie forums just plain suck when Joe is involved. i try my best to ignore him, but i just can't. cuz i've never read something so retarded in my life. and i always have to be nice to him, cuz of his situation. which i totally respect.

i just wish if a few ppl left the movie forums, i would post more. i don't think the Water Cooler is mean-spirited anyway. it's just one persons opinion after all.

kj cannot lose focus. what you call losing focus is what kj calls changing focus. kj is just a bunch of people...if they keep showing up here, regardless of where they post, they are focused.

Eh, it seems fine to me. I think the forum was so busy from May-August, mostly due to The Dark Knight, it just seems slow right now and it doesnt help we just got out of September. And it won't help there isn't any really major blockbusters remaining the rest of the year. Unless some films break out, which I think there are a few films that will, though maybe not the ones most want. haha.
