And the Weather Channel doesn't count. I've seen them there too. Just wondering because I've kind of always been obsessed with them, and would want to see one, but from the distance, and with professionals that could get me away, and only a rank 1. Anything bigger and I'd go of a heart attack on the spot.

MA is not exactly notorious for touchdowns, and in the entire state there were only two times since I was 6 that there were tornado warning. Coincidentally, one was when we had a bbq party and my sister and I really wanted to rent Twister. My friends looked at us funny, but we thought it was just our film selection. When we were watching one of the outer doors slammed shut and my mother commented on how windy it was. AT that point my friends told us of the warning and said they assumed we had known and selected Twister for the night intentionally. We hadn't of course. The touchdowns ended up being a few towns over, and it was dark by then, so we didn't see.

There was also a touchdown last year just south of Chicago, but apparently due to the coldness of the lake, there has never been one in the actual city because the air temp. is too consistent.

My friend grew up on Omaha, so she told me she's lived through two (they had a shelter and everything) and that I'd better be happy I hadn't seen one, haha! She said it jokingly though, so I don't know...

My older sister saw one in the distance on a road trip through New Mexico once. She said it was so flat there, and she saw it just on the horizon, and there was nothing her and her friends could do except keep driving in the opposite direction.

Me? I haven't seen one, just big dirt devils (or whatever they are called) when I was out in N. Mexico and Arizona. But I really do kind of wonder about seeing one and how I would feel. I'd probably freak out, nay, definately freak out, so I'll just keep watching the weather channel I guess.

I believe I have seen a Tornado up close. The reason why I am not sure is because I was on the Monorail at Disneyland, and later found out that while I was on there, there was a Tornado Warning for Orange County. However, I do remember seeing something while I was on there that looked like (And at the time I thought) was a Tornado. This happened while I was in California for the first time.

Actually a lot of things happened while I was visiting California for the first time. There was the tornado I just mentioned, a tropical storm, 90+ degree heat, and an earthquake which I slept through, which is normal for me. Way back in 1998 here in Massachusetts we got a rare (Especially in my area) Tornado Warning, that I almost slept through if it wasn't for my mom waking me up. That same summer there was also a Tornado Watch in the area, but that only produced hail.

I hope I never really experience one.

I saw one, when I was 5 or 6 (so 1985, 1986). According to this site, RI had one Tornado in 1985, and 3 in 1986, so my recollection of the dates is failr accurate.

Believe it or not, UK gets the most tornadoes in the world outside of America. Which is quite strange for such a small island.

However - i cannot say ive seen a tornado. I have an obsession with them too, and figure ill probobly go tornado hunting some summer when ive got money and time.

Passed about a half a mile north of my house and just south of the Kansas Speedway. There were three tornado cells opeating that day. The other two were 7 miles and 20 miles south of us.

Destroyed quite a few houses in Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, MO.

We watched it from about 1/2 mile away, since the highway patrol would not let us close to it on the west leg of the I-435 loop.

You live near Kansas City, MO? I've been there in August, heh.

I lived there from 1996 to 2004. I loved the KC metro. The rest of MO (sans St. Louis and a few other metro areas) and KS are pretty bad and full of ignorant hicks.

Where did you stay in KCMO?

I didn't stay in it, I just visited it a couple of times. I stayed in a small town in MO, close to KC.

I'm from Ok, but I've only seen them on the news. When they were near, I was always in a shelter. Back in 1995. my both my parents' and older brother's homes were totally destroyed by a tornado. As they were getting in my parents' cellar, the roof of my parents' house began to come off.

I also had a cousin who was in Moore (suburb of Oklahoma City) when the massive F5 tornado came through Oklahoma City in May of '99, I believe. She was knocked unconscious and woke up in the rubble of her house which was gone. Surprisingly, she only had a few bumps and bruises. That day was a very scary day in Oklahoma. I lived east of Oklahoma City and spent a good portion of the evening riveted to the TV amd about half an hour in a shelter when a tornado was nearby.

We don't go chasing after tornadoes in Oklahoma because we know how dangerous they can be.
