Re: How much would The Incredibles 2 gross?
Cars was on IMDb for five years before being released. It's not like it was a rushed product. Still, I think if anybody can learn from their mistakes...

Yeah, I think so. I think Toy Story 3 would be more than a comprimise project for them though, I mean completing the trilogy would be a pretty natural thing for them, and I get the feeling they would love to go back to their roots and play with Woody, Buzz, and the gang again.
Cars 2 though... I dunno, it does feel unneccesary. Part of me would like to think they know they fucked up in the original, so they'd like to have a reprise by making this a totally awesome masterpiece, but we'll see.

Re: How much would The Incredibles 2 gross?
Toy Story 3's concept is too awesome to be a compromise. The whole abandonment angle is too much of a natural progression, too. The story needs to be completed, especially after Disney almost made it without Pixar.

Re: How much would The Incredibles 2 gross?
I love how we talk about Pixar like it's a warm-hearted person. It is a movie studio, and what John Lasseter says sums it up: "Quality is the best business plan." They are doing these movies to make money, but they just happen to want their products to be worthwhile, for two reasons: 1) they care, and 2) it's simply true that if a movie is good enough, people will see it, whether it's in theaters or later on DVD.
but yeah, it's good to know that they aren't too hot on sequels, although Cars 2 does sound an awful lot like something that doesn't need to exist.

- Marlin learns that his father or mother who abandoned him at birth is still around, so he, Dory, and Nemo go looking for him/her.
Or make Nemo now a teenager/adult fish, and create a storyline that way. You could also throw in a love interest for Marlin or Nemo (if he's older), and make something from there.
Either way though, I think it's moot because I don't believe Pixar will make a Nemo sequel, you're right in the sense that it would seem like a money move, something they're probably above. And I think their work from now on will be more advanced than the simply family film stage of something like Nemo. Sure Pixar can come up with a good story for it, but I think no Pixar film screams "sequel" as much as The Incredibles does, I think we can agree on that.

The only Pixar film I see getting a sequel is The Incredibles because of its style. Cars 2 is needed? I have a feeling it was a sort of compromise with Disney...in order to keep being able to make such risky movies (UP and The Bear and the Bow make WALL-E seem typical by comparison), they had to provide Disney with some guaranteed profit makers. Toy Story 3 will roll in the big dough and Cars will induce merchandising mania. So, once Pixar got a script they legitimately liked for Cars 2, they agreed to it. That might be true and all...but I think The Incredibles 2 would even be bigger, don't you think so?

I mean, until an Incredibles sequel performs like Shrek 2 I guess you're right, but Incredibles did gross nearly as much (with more competition), and scored much better on say, the IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. Plus, I like it better. And as far as I know, Incredibles easily outperformed Shrek 2 in DVD sales. I want a sequellll. *stomps feet*

Shrek with its type of humor and pop culture references has just as much appeal to older audiences.

Re: How much would The Incredibles 2 gross?
The thing to keep in mind is, each Pixar installment plays like something of a sequel--not completely, but to a certain degree.
Also, as someone else said, the almost all-human cast ucanny valleys it a little. In any case, it wasn't a sleeper, so I don't know how much it would increase.

I think Shrek 3 may have hurt the overall fanship of the series, but when it was just Shrek... it was a monster.

And if you lok at Yahoo Reviews grades and at IMDB, The Incredibles is higher than Shrek in both of these places. Moreover, as I said, consider the competition it has had. In particular The Polar Express and NT hurt it in the long run as they very leggy monsters pretty much. Without such competition (or at least with only half of it), The Incredibles would have passed $280 million with ease.

Re: How much would The Incredibles 2 gross?
I'd like to see the Incredibles 2 (or any other Pixar film) open later in the holiday season. Looking at what pics like Alvin and the Chipmunks and Narna did in December, I'm curious what it'd perform like during the holiday frame.

Re: How much would The Incredibles 2 gross?
A Few things people need to know about Cars.
- Its inception was very early. It took ages for them to make it. - Cars, as much as people don't like the movie and think it herald some sort of a Pixar downfall, was one of the most profitable merchandising ventures for Disney.
Cars 2 is purely a money making scheme from Disney, as the original story of Cars was something Lassater had always always wanted to do without a thought on a sequel.

Re: How much would The Incredibles 2 gross?
Would you doubt John Lasseter if you knew that Cars 2 is in the works because of the money it made in merchandise? Lasseter admitted that Cars 2 has been put to work from a financial point of view unlike Pixar's beliefs. Looks like Disney is starting to rub off on him after all. When questioned about the script he said it was a great one but he asked a different time said it's still in early development. How can you say your script is great if it isn't developed? Maybe it's time for him to step down and get someone else up there. After all Pixar's biggest misstep was Lasseter's project. But till then the schedule looks very promising.

Re: How much would The Incredibles 2 gross?
So, Cars 2 is coming and Monsters Inc. 2 is likely as well...but still no word on The Incredibles too.
Consdiering the huge amount of goodwill Pixar has built up, the 3D craze and the usual increases for sequels to superhero flicks, I think that if released around 2012/2013, it'd certainly pass $400 million with ease, maybe even $450 million.

Hmm, now that Toy Story 3 is on track to $415 million or so...any new opinions on this?
i think if released in 2014/2015 it would probably do around the same as Toy Story 3 this year ($410-425 million).
