The Sex and the City Effect
Now that SatC is undoubtedly on its way to gross $100m+ (as well as The Simpsons' stellar run), do you think it will encourage studios/producers to seek more popular shows and make them into films?

Re: The Sex and the City Effect
The Friends cast really has never been consistently bankable at the movie theaters, so a Friends movie could at least give their careers a boost.

They'd be really smart to make a FRIENDS movie now.

Re: The Sex and the City Effect
Funny thing is Friends and Sex and the City finished around the same time!
I don't think anything will get as hyped as Sex and the City is now though.

To be fair, he wasn't exactly Tom Cruise at the box office before that.
Trial & Error anyone? Unstrung Heroes?

Trial & Error anyone? Unstrung Heroes?Hey! Trial and Error was pretty darn good. It featured a 22 year old future Academy Award winner by the name of Charlize Theron. And both Michael Richards and Jeff Daniels were on their comedy marks - - it's no all-time classic, but it is a very funny movie with a decent story...

Re: The Sex and the City Effect
FRIENDS relies too much on canned laughter.
Sitcoms should never be made into movies for this reason.
However i think a SOPRANOS movie could do decent business.
I'd Like to see an Alias movie, but i wouldnt see it topping $100m, I mean the mythology of alias became so complex it'd be amazing if they could market it broadly.
Same with Buffy. Big cult hit, but broad audiences are not so interested.
Desperate Housewives could make a fantastic film. Heroes too.

Just give us another Simpsons movie. That's all I need. But I don't watch much in the way of TV shows, so take that for what it's worth.

Re: The Sex and the City Effect
A Sopranos movie would do big business. Though it would comprimise that series' great ending. And I doubt Anthony Jr will lead the pack. But I'd say its a good bet at getting made.

Desperate Housewives could make a fantastic film. Heroes too. Agreed - Sitcoms dont work the same way. DP will work - a standalone mystery. Heroes too after its finished on tv. Alias i'd like to see, but i havnt seen the last two seasons so dont know if they left it open enough for a film.

Re: The Sex and the City Effect
I almost definitely see a Sopranos movie. Which will completely ruin the finale.
Or, for some, properly wrap up the show, I suppose.

I'm just saying it isn't on the Top 50 highest-grossing films of all time.
Probably not even top 500.

I'd definitely see it, and I'm sure Larry David could still pen a terrific script, but I'm not sure if it'd be that funny with Kramer now needing a cane, etc...

So...what TV show should they adapt next?
Now that Sex and the City, The Simpsons, and Hannah Montana are huge hits, what TV show should they make into a movie next? I'm thinking more modern TV shows than adaptations of kitschy shows like Get Smart, Bewitched, The Flintstones, and The Dukes of Hazzard. There's also an A-Team movie coming. I'd like to see a Married...with Children movie.
