 Volkswagen "suicide bomber" viral add
http://www.snopes.com/photos/commercials/vwpolo.asp
So apparently Volkswagen had nothing to do with it. I dunno. It seems too high budget to not have some sort of big money behind it. Either way, I think it's actually kind of funny in a black as coal humor way.

They just don't have the balls to admit it was their ad
A lot of companies do this nowadays: they leak a rejected ad concept on the web (usually it's rejected because of the shock value), and then claim they had nothing to do with it. Consider a similar example with Ford SportKa about a year back.
It makes for a great marketing move.

I agree, Krem. It's extremely effective marketing. I also agree that this is probably Volkswagen's add and they are just too afraid to admit to it. Like I said, the add *looks* very professional.

Nope. I've been in love with Snopes for around five or six years now. I try and go there daily. I've been an urban legend fiend since Middle School.

The production values in this film are way too high for it to be anything but a professional marketing company's film comissioned by VW.

I see nothing wrong wtih the advert. I think its a cool way to advetise the car, if only people weren't so bloody sensitive, it would be okay.

Oh i thought this was talking about someone else.
Obviously this is a media companys nightmare - it offends nearly every possible demographic, and its taste could only be tolerated by certain niche internet crowds ie the total lack of decency found in...say internet forums ?
Which is why you wouldnt see this "Leaked" on a television network. Because the uproar would be catastrophic.

I found the suicide bomber one to be a really good commercial.

Exactly. I thought it was well made and unique.

Its neither well made nor unique.
If you mean its got high production values? Yes, a good filmstock has been used as well as some well done cinematography.
In terms of being well made ? No. Theres little imagination went into it to make it unique - and i think thats kind of the purpose , a by the numbers car advert - except at the end theres a slight twist thats so controversial its bound to give the car and company publicity.

Have you seen another advert for a car like this? no, ie. it is unique.
Could you or me make the advert? no, ie. it is well made.

1. Nearly every car advert out has a similar structure to this. The whole point of making it unique is that theres a suicide bomb scene plunked onto the end - if he had walked out of the car, and some words were put there instead of a bomb - they could have produced an advert identical to every other generic car ad out there - the suicide bomb scene was sick, unique? yes, but sick.
2. If you gave me a few thousand grand - yes. Well Made dosen't always involve high production values and good equipment - it invovles some creativity and visionary - and theres not alot of it here. Looks good? Yes. Is good? No. The tasteless angle suits VW well..
