 Peak oil
I'm amazed nobody has been bringing this up.

 Re: Peak oil
Alarmist bullshit is right.
The concept of "peak" is no more concrete or practical than the concept of "equilibrium" in economics. Reality is fuzzier and far less alarming.

You seriously don't think oil is going to pose as a problem in the coming decades? No more than it already has. There are alternative energy sources, and as oil becomes more and more expensive, they will become more and more prominent. For all I know in 20 years my house will be powered by wind energy and I will be driving a hydrogen-fueled car.

 Re: Peak oil
There are two sides to every story and those opposing the doomers just as in the global warming crowd (humans as the cause) like to believe that their science is the Only Factual science and those who oppose it are quacks and in a extremely tiny minority.
My opinion is that oil is priced so high simply because it can be when it's controlled by OPEC. They could overproduce but that'd be bad business and because people have to buy oil and gas to simply function, so why ruin such a gold mine like that. I also agree with some out there that think there are huge oil reserves just sitting off the US coast of florida and in the ANWAR region but because of various factors our own govt won't touch it.

2+2=4 <-- What's the other side to that story?

 Re: Peak oil
Markets generally work. Oil has yet to prove itself an exception. I would know, being a commodities trader. For the first time in decades, urban development is keeping pace with credit-crippled suburban sprawl. A combination of high prices and political will can work wonders. Case in point: McCain, Obama, and Clinton are all environmentalists. For the first time in memory, there is no denier of scientific truth running for President of the United States.

 Re: Peak oil
4-2=2?
I would assume that is 2's side of the story, as we all know how 4 got there.
