Re: WoKJ: Box Office Game Beta - Question on Pg. 3
I was planning on making an announcement thread on Thursday or Friday, I mean, realisticly people tend to wait to enter predictions, even though you can edit them at any time.
I'll update to show the timezone on that form (it's ET).

Re: WoKJ: Box Office Game Beta - Question on Pg. 3
Ok first off, I don't know if I've said it yet, but Eagle's work has been fantastic. Now I don't want to be too nitpicky, but the calculator section doesn't have the tabs on it to go back to other pages of the bonanza game. Can that be fixed?

Re: WoKJ: Box Office Game Beta - Question on Pg. 3
That's not too nit picky, it's a legit issue, and one I'm aware of.
The issue is that the calculator was designed by Arsi, and utilizes a bit of php code that is a bit outdated. The connection section is totally different from how my code interacts with the database. Thus for a time, the calculator is going to stay in the tools section. I put the link in the 'menu' so that it is easier to get to, since I figure many people playing the game will utilize that feature.
In time, I will re-code the calculator and include it within the Box Office Bonanza game.

I have added a games link to the main menu of the main site, and have updated the How To Play section.

I'll update to show the timezone on that form (it's ET). Better hurry, eleven hours til deadline. Btw, any chance for us to have average predictions?

I don't understand what you mean by 'Average Predictions'?

Ahh yeah, they will be updated each week when the Actuals are submitted, so unlike BOM where they are updated all the time, for us they won't be released until after.

Re: WoKJ: Box Office Game Beta - Question on Pg. 3
OK, I have isolated and believe I have fixed the issue.
For anyone who wanted to predict, but wasn't able to, we will work on an honor system.
If you wanted to enter a prediction before the 4:00 am ET deadline, but were unable to do so, you can send them to me, and I will enter them for you.
Please PM me your predictions for each movie, clearly labeled movie name > gross.
Apologies.

Re: WoKJ: Box Office Game Beta - Question on Pg. 3
You probably just haven't gotten around programming it, but will it be possible in the future to review your predictions?

Yeah, I will probably modify the game so that the "this week's entry" page will show your previous weeks predictions.
Add it to the list!

I modified the page so you should now be able to see what you predicted.

Re: WoKJ: Box Office Game Beta - Question on Pg. 3
Little suggestion for the front page. You programmed it so you can see the top 25. How about you would make it a top 50 and below that you have your own score and rank with the two players better and worse than you. I always hated on BOM that you have to look for yourself.

Re: WoKJ: Box Office Game Beta - Question on Pg. 3
Nice idea.
Btw, how about this...automatically calculated scores with projections, estimates, actuals? I mean, they will be calculated with actuals anyway, possible to have that with earlier numbers too? Maybe connecting it with numbers that are entered for calculator?

I somewhat agree, which is why if you are logged in, it tells you your score and your ranking on the right in the little box. If you made the top 25, you will be highlighted yellow. The page is just meant to be a 'default' page, with standard information for both players, and non players. I don't want to extend it to top 50, as it will start to stretch the page vertically, and I think top 25 is enough, if you want to see more, go to the results page, which will eventually contain full results for each week. I do like the idea of showing one above and below you at the bottom though. Maybe I could do top 20, then your ranking with the two below you, and two above you. If you're in the top 25, then it would just show the top 25. At this time, I won't be implementing it, but it's something to think about for the future. Nebs wrote: Nice idea.

Maybe connecting it with numbers that are entered for calculator? Actuals have to be added, then a script is run to update scores. I don't want to be modifying the database that much for estimates etc. What I am thinking about doing, however, is modifying the "This Weeks Entry" page. Currently, it shows you what you predicted. I am thinking about tying it into the calculator, so that it will auto show you your score for each movie, and your total, each time the calculator is updated. Again, something for the future. I have other things ahead of that on the importance list, like: - Results Page - Hall of Fame Page - Add Holdover / Opener results etc

I obviously meant top 20 because 50 wouldn't fit. I understand it's not the most important thing right now. I also like the idea of combining it with the calculator. That would be awesome

Re: WoKJ: Box Office Game Beta - Question on Pg. 3
Other than an ad on the main site, what can we really do to advertise? If people want to play, they will play, if not ... then they don't!
Word will get out eventually, I hope.

Instead of banners! And great job Eagle, I'm not worried about players, not many even know about it. Like someone said in that baseball movie, Revenge of the Nerds, "If you build it, they will come."

Re: WoKJ: Box Office Game Beta - Question on Pg. 3
Updated the actuals and added the new week's entry.
BTW, when I added the entry, it still showed the deadline to be 12:01am, although the actual page for users shows 4:01am, so you might want to check the time on the backend again to make sure.

Re: WoKJ: Box Office Game Beta - Question on Pg. 3
I saw, it looks like the scores are off. There must be a problem with my calculation code, I'll take a look at it on Wednesday, and re-run the script, so scores are correct.
