 Exorcism of Emily Rose...
...looks really upsetting. I think it might be horror, but it also sounds like a personal drama of the head investigator, and a court drama. A little bit of everything, based off of (I'm sure very loosely) a true history. I went to the website and even the design is freaking me out (in a good way mind you).

Anyone heard muhc about it or is going to go see it?
EmilyRoseSite wrote: In an extremely rare decision, the Catholic Church officially recognized the demonic possession of a 19 year-old college freshman. Told in terrifying flashbacks. THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE chronicles the haunting trial of the priest accused of negligence resulting in the death of the young girl belived to be possessed. Inspired by true events, the film stars Laura Linnet as the lawyer who takes on the task of defending the priest (Tom Wilkinson) who performed the controversial exorcism. Anyone have news or recollections of the actual event? I don't. From IMDB: Quote: A bitter and repressed single lawyer (Laura Linney) takes on the church and the state when she fights for the life of a priest who performed a deadly exorcism on a young woman. Linney must battle the cocky state lawyer as well as her own lonliness, as she realizes that her career so far has not fulfilled her, nor is she happy in her job on a day to day basis.
So it could be a drama? The cast is great, I've been very pleasantly surprised by Wilkinson and Linney in the last three or four years. Pretty much since Linney did You Can Count On Me, and Wilkinson did In the Bedroom.

Looks interesting and I'm intrigued as to what type of film it will end up being because it could be a horror thriller, a personal drama, or a courtroom thriller.

I actually had to stop the trailer about 10 seconds in. Because the sounds of her exorcism were way, way too scary for me.
Honestly this is the one film in a very long time id class as "too scary" for me to see.

I can't wait to see this one. Looks better than all the Exorcist movies put together.

Yeh. I was actually getting pretty upset. But it was wuite intrigueing. Since the inevitable comparisons to The Exorcist are bound to come up (Hi Zingy!) than I'll put it out there. Exorcist wasn't scary (even to me) because it depended on believing in the Catholic devil, etc. Why this looks like it could potentially be more scary to me is because its "an outsiders" view of the situation. Through the eyes of Linney, who is more like the audiance. So the fear comes from the actions, the trial, the unfolding of events leading up to the death, and the complexities of the situation. All delivered through the eyes of someone else who doesn't quite "get it." The problem with Exorcist is that you had to "get it" to be frightened. That works well. I consider the original Stepford Wives to be a horror flick, and both my mother and I were mortified when we saw it respectively. It wouldn't scare people that aren't worried about those gender roles. They just "wouldn't get it."
Emily Rose looks like its counting on the fact that there will be disbelievers in the audiance. Hence why it plays out as much in the courtroom and on the detection trail as it does. Yikes!

Yeah, it does look pretty potentially frightening, though it could be a well edited trailer and a terrible movie (ala White Noise). Either way, if not only for the exorcism itself, but for those freaky looking demons just in the streets. They remind me of Jacob's Ladder.

I see no diffrence in the creepy sounds in this than the ones in the exorcist, its basicly the same type of creepy sounds and possession.

I didnt find the exorist particularly scary.
What scares mea bout this film is that ive heard the girl who died in the exorcism in the trailer actually being exorcised.
Its not "fair play" and i find that disturbing.
As a catholic its a subject for me thats very much a grey area; i mean i think exorcism is a very wrong thing of course but when i heard the girl in that trailer...it was just a bit terrifying.
I do of course believe in God and so forth; but i dont think you have to be religious as a christian to find this trailer disturbing

Yeah, personally I don't get scared of horror movies anymore. Some of them make me jump and can be pretty freaky, but I'm not cowering in my seat or thinking about it afterwards at night. For me, I think that this could be pretty terrible and the trailer is just well done, but the true story part, the whole thing with all the demons living everywhere, well if nothing else those are some creepy ideas.
