Post Emmy Contenders/Suggestions
Ballots for Emmy voters are due tomorrow, and nominations are announced on July 14.

USA Today and Entertainment Weekly have both written up Emmy suggestions, and Tom O'Neil at GoldDerby (thanks Valleyguy) has some predictions.

First, here are GoldDerby's predictions for the major categories:

http://www.goldderby.com/pundents/Emmy/ ... mOneil.asp

Best Drama
CSI
Deadwood
Lost
24
The West Wing

Best Comedy
Arrested Development
Desperate Housewives
Entourage
Everybody Loves Raymond
Will & Grace

Best Actor in a Drama
Anthony LaPaglia, Without a Trace
Hugh Laurie, House
Ian McShane, Deadwood
James Spader, Boston Legal
Kiefer Sutherland, 24

Best Actress in a Drama
Candice Bergen, Boston Legal
Glenn Close, The Shield
Jennifer Garner, Alias
Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order: SVU
Allison Janney, The West Wing

Best Actor in a Comedy
Jason Bateman, Arrested Development
Matt LeBlanc, Joey
Ray Romano, Everybody Loves Raymond
Tony Shalhoub, Monk
Charlie Sheen, Two and a Half Men

Best Actress in a Comedy
Marcia Cross, Desperate Housewives
Patricia Heaton, Everybody Loves Raymond
Teri Hatcher, Desperate Housewives
Felicity Huffman, Desperate Housewives
Eva Longoria, Desperate Housewives

Follow the link for more commentary.

I'll be surprised if all four housewives make it on the list. If they exclude one, which I believe they will, I think it will be Longoria.

Glenn Close has generated a lot of buzz for her role on The Shield, so I think she's a given, but I'll actually be pretty surprised if Candice Bergen makes the list. Her role is almost supporting.

I don't watch enough TV (I watch, um, Chapelle's Show, American Idol, and some Deadwood) to fill out anything. Deadwood and Desperate Housewives should sweep, though. Lost will probably be ignored.

Still, the Emmy's are going to want to recognize fresh, new shows instead of recognizing Will and Grace and The Sopranos for the eighth consecutive time.

Mary-Lynn for supporting actress! That would so rock, even if it's impossible.

Deadwood and DH won't have enough nominations to sweep. Arrested Development will win the comedic actor awards and maybe Lost will win the dramatic actor awards.

I just hope ''Gilmore Girls'' won't get snubbed again. At least a nomination, doesn't have to win, although it deserves. It was just terrible to find out that Buffy didn't get any major nomination. Best writing for ''Hush'' was awesome, and it should've won, but ''The Body'' and ''Once More with Feeling'' were probably the best and finest two hours of TV programming ever. Not to mention ''Becoming'' two-parter, or ''Graduation Day'' two-parter, or ''Restless'', a phenomenal Lynch-esque episode.

I hope ''Dead Like Me'' gets a nom, it's a great show with phenomenal cast (great actors, great scripts, great character development), but I think that the fact it aired on Showtime! will hurt its chances. It will unfortunately go unnoticed.

And ''Carnivále'' deserved a nom in some major category. It's a great show. I know Emmys have problems with supernatural stories, but I didn't think they have a problem with good acting. Speaking of HBO, haven't seen ''Deadwood'', but sounds great.

I talked about snubbed shows mostly, so I hope that this year wonder (no not ''Lost'' or ''Desperate Houseviwes'', although both are superb, especially ''Lost'') ''Veronica Mars'' will get nods for best drama and best leading actress. One day snubbing of great shows has to stop. ''The West Wing'' gettin nods every year with quality just going down hill and becoming more pathetic each year is totally unfair.

Did USA Today just look at *my* ballot and then write theirs? Their ballot is eerily similiar to mine, even the "odd man out" choices like Sara Rue in Less Than Perfect.

Great minds think alike!

ZACH BRAFF! This season was the best and he deserves it. And 24 for everything they're nominated for.

I actually think Deadwood is going to win.

24 is also due eventually.

Anyone even holding out the smallest of hope for major recognition for Scrubs or Gilmore Girls should just stop now. I am saying that for your own good! I love both shows, so don't think I'm Mr. Pessimist stopping by and raining on your love parade. But, if either show gets any major nominations (I don't really care if Scrubs gets an editing nomination), I'll do anything you ask of me! Hell, I'll do five things in total. Change my name, my sig, my avatar, stop posting for a month, choke myself, ANYTHING!

Hmmm, mostly agree.

In the comedy category I wouldn't be surprised if they left out Will & grace over something else. Gilmore Girls and Scrubs deserve it wayyy more. Two & a Half Men could make it, too, though.

Best Comedy actress seems good, but I'd too be surprised if they nominated all 4 actresses, so yeah, the most likely to be left out is Eva Longoria. Kirtie Allie seems like the most obvious choice to replace her, unless they do finally embrace the WB in which case Lauren Graham would have a chance. I wouldn't mind Sara Rue or (!!!) Katey Sagal though.

Best Dramatic actres. There has to be at least oneee surprise somewhere right?

Kirten Bell might just make it.

In the drama category House might stand a chance, which would mean The West Wing (finally) or Lost (would be a shocker for some, but I wouldn't be too surprised) being elft out. Maybe Deadwood. CAn't think of any other contenders other than House.

The ones I really hope get recognized with a nomination are:

Victor Garber (Alias, ABC)
The woman who plays Sun on Lost, ABC
Josh Holloway (Lost) - although if one of the other guys on Lost got nominated instead, that wouldn't be too bad, most of them were good. Except not the hobbit, he's ok but he doesn't do much acting.
Terry O'Quinn (Lost, ABC)
Conchatta Farrell (Two and a Half Men, CBS), I think she adds more to the show than Holland Taylor.

Victor Garber, indeed. I think this season of Alias was the most Jack Bristow-centric since season one.

Yunjin Kim (Sun on Lost) is also a great pick. I'd much rather see Terry O'Quinn be nominated than Holloway, though.

Here's TV Guide's dream Emmy ballot, and I'm agreeing with a lot of their choices, especially the love they are giving to Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars.

Our 2005 Dream Emmy Ballot

Dear Emmy Voters:
You recently received in the mail a ballot to pick the nominees for the 2005 Primetime Emmy Awards. Now, we realize that you're a busy group of people, so it's probably difficult for you to watch everything on TV. What do you say to letting your friends at TV Guide help you choose whom to recognize this year? Because — let's be real — all we do around here is watch TV. Don't be shy — go ahead and use this handy cheat sheet when filling out your official ballots. We'll see if you listened to us on July 14 when the actual nods are revealed.
Sincerely,
The editors of TV Guide

Lead Comedy Actress

Our Nominees...
Kirstie Alley (Kirstie, Fat Actress)
Marcia Cross (Bree, Desperate Housewives)
Lauren Graham (Lorelai, Gilmore Girls)
Eva Longoria (Gabrielle, Desperate Housewives)
Leah Remini (Carrie, The King of Queens)

Cross and Longoria are Housewives' true stars, but Graham delivered the year's best comedic performance. If she gets passed over again, the joke'll be on Emmy.

Lead Comedy Actor

Our Nominees...
Jason Bateman (Michael, Arrested Development)
Zach Braff (J.D., Scrubs)
Steve Carell (Michael, The Office)
Topher Grace (Eric, That '70s Show)
Charlie Sheen (Charlie, Two and a Half Men)

Carell took on the acting challenge of the year, filling Ricky Gervais' loafers, and ably answered the question, "Who's the boss?" But it's time for Emmy to recognize Braff for the talent that he is.

Lead Drama Actress

Our Nominees...
Kristen Bell (Veronica, Veronica Mars)
Glenn Close (Captain Rawling, The Shield)
Evangeline Lilly (Kate, Lost)
Molly Parker (Alma, Deadwood)
Joely Richardson (Julia, Nip/Tuck)

While Parker's understated work amid Deadwood's scenery-chewing is worthy of notice, and Close shone on The Shield, we're really pulling for Bell — our pick for this year's TV find.

Lead Drama Actor

Our Nominees...
Matthew Fox (Jack, Lost)
Hugh Laurie (House, House)
Denis Leary (Tommy, Rescue Me)
Ian McShane (Swearengen, Deadwood)
James Spader (Alan, Boston Legal)

After last year's snub, McShane had better be a no-brainer. Elsewhere, Laurie made a jackass lovable, Fox found the burden of Lost on his shoulders, Spader gave a risky spin-off zing, and Leary was on fire in Rescue Me.

Best Comedy

Our Nominees...
Arrested Development
Desperate Housewives
Everybody Loves Raymond
Gilmore Girls
Scrubs

Scrubs is long overdue, Girls hit a glorious new creative high, and Raymond went out on top. And Housewives is a shoo-in.

Best Drama

Our Nominees...
Deadwood
Lost
24
Veronica Mars
The Wire

Mars was out of this world, Deadwood f---ing brilliant, The Wire electrifying, and 24 had its best day yet. But Lost is a phenomenon.

Supporting Comedy Actress

Our Nominees...
Kelly Bishop (Emily, Gilmore Girls)
Sarah Chalke (Elliott, Scrubs)
Judy Reyes (Carla, Scrubs)
Nicollette Sheridan (Edie, Desperate Housewives)
Jessica Walter (Lucille, Arrested Development)

Sex and the City's exit opens up this field, and we hope that means first-time nods for Scrubs' heroines. A high-five for the hilariously haughty Bishop would be cool, too.

Supporting Comedy Actor

Our Nominees...
Will Arnett (Gob, Arrested Development)
David Cross (Tobias, Arrested Development)
John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox, Scrubs)
Scott Patterson (Luke, Gilmore Girls)
Jeremy Piven (Ari, Entourage)

McGinley and Patterson are both long overdue, and Piven, pitch-perfect as a sleazy agent, emerged as Entourage's true leader. But voters best not forget Arrested's wacko second bananas Arnett and Cross.

Supporting Drama Actress

Our Nominees...
Shohreh Aghdashloo (Dina, 24)
Yunjin Kim (Sun, Lost)
Paula Malcomson (Trixie, Deadwood)
Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe, 24)
Robin Weigert (Calamity Jane, Deadwood)

Deadwood's Weigert is the ultimate scene-stealer, and Rajskub has made 24's Chloe the coolest nerd on the tube. But we'd be scared to overlook the intensely creepy Aghdashloo.

Supporting Drama Actor

Our Nominees...
Anthony Anderson (Antwon, The Shield)
Dominic Monaghan (Charlie, Lost)
Terry O'Quinn (Locke, Lost)
William Sanderson (E.B., Deadwood)
Gregory Smith (Ephram, Everwood)

As Deadwood's clueless mayor, Sanderson is a hoot. Monaghan and O'Quinn have been stand-outs on Lost. Smith, meanwhile, remains TV's finest young male actor. And Anderson held his own with Glenn Close and Michael Chiklis. Nuff said.

Ok, I'm really sick of GILMORE GIRLS getting snubbed by the Emmy's. Enough with only nominating it, give it some freakin' Emmy's already! Lauren Graham is long overdue for one. The show has been on for 5 SEASONS! Come on! First SEX & THE CITY stole all of the awards, and now DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES is going to. No offense to DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and its fans, but obviously that will be around longer than the rest of GILMORE GIRLS will be so I really don't want to see the housewives taking the awards every year. It would be a friggin' SHAME if GILMORE GIRLS never got an Emmy, especially if Lauren Graham never did. She's so great as Lorelai! She deserves an award already! While GILMORE GIRLS is a dramedy and can be quite hilarious, I personally consider it a drama myself. If the Emmy Academy did as well maybe it would have a chance. With the housewives around now it sadly doesn't. I pray to Ellen that some miracle will happen and they'll let the award go to Lauren once. Kelly Bishop is also highly deserving of a supporting actress Emmy. She turns in some absolutely brilliant performances as Emily. Emmy voters, PLEASE give GILMORE GIRLS its due one of these times! If you don't it's something I will never be able to forgive you for.

And I know VERONICA MARS won't win, but kudos to it making many people's suggestions/personal picks. It's a GREAT show! It and GILMORE GIRLS are the two best on TV, for me anyway.

With all this hopeful love for Mary Lynn on "24", I'm going to be severely disappointed when the big day arrives. She will not get nominated, sadly. And dammit, I liked Chloe before everyone started liking Chloe! Is it just coincidence that when she suddenly took out a bad guy with a gun, she's on everyone's favorite list (and Emmy hopefuls ballot)?

And... WHAT?! NO KIEFER?! I know Laurie and Leary carry their shows, and Fox has been doing a damn fine job being the lead star in a series where every character makes or breaks the show (and I'll take their word for it on McShane and Spader)... but no Kiefer, no "24" (which is why it would have been so hard to watch 24 without Jack).

Best suggested line-up yet.

I did put Sarah Chalke in lead for my nominations, though. (Tell me if that needs fixin', Mr. X!)

The Emmys hate excellent shows. They only love the mediocre and the bland, with few rare exceptions.
