Low for me, but not sure it matters anyway.

Re: House of the Dragon (HBO)
I could see it being more dialog driven and Shakespearean making some people call it slow, while LOTR shows off more with big budget visual scenes for the sake of it rather than serving a story purpose.

It's at 91% now. But I've noticed that it's so easy for TV series' to get high RT scores. When I look, the majority are in the 90s with certified fresh tags.

TV shows have more time to develop things, which makes it harder for them to be outright bad

It's kind of like how propaganda works, but on a less corrupt level - the more you see something, the more you're likely to believe it, side with it, look upon it positively, etc.

Re: House of the Dragon (HBO)
Giving something a meh 6/10 is safer than trashing it with a 3 or 1. Don't have to worry about fanbases attacking them, aren't going out on a limb in a way that a different critic who likes it will make them look bad, etc. The bad shows that have minority casts and LGBT subplots also probably guaranteed themselves a 5/10 or higher instead of having to worry about bottoming out. Bad music reviews basically don't exist for some of the same reasons https://www.metacritic.com/browse/album ... eases/date

Yes. That also makes total sense.

If I give up on a show it'll be in the very first episode. Anything will seem decent once you get invested in the characters, and if youre job is to watch the several episodes at once then that will most likely happen.

Re: House of the Dragon (HBO)
Really liked the first episode, though obviously Rhaenyra will not actually get to the Iron Throne, as 172 years later in the time of GOT there still has never been a queen on the iron throne .
The birth scene was crushingly sad. Matt Smith also gives a great performance and definitely seems like his character is hiding a lot

Re: House of the Dragon (HBO)
It took me half the episode to get into it but I liked it by the end. The actor who plays the king will be missed when he inevitably goes the way of Sean Bean.

Re: House of the Dragon (HBO)
Considering the actress who plays young Rhaenyra is 22 I think it was a mistake to recast her with an older actress when they time jump in a few episodes.

Re: House of the Dragon (HBO)
I really liked it too! Felt like season 1 Thrones which is the best we could have hoped for.
We'll have to wait and see, but the time jump / recasting seems like a weird idea to throw in so early in the series. I'm guessing that's why the reviews have been middling (on metacritic.) This first episode on its own should get high praise across the board.

Re: House of the Dragon (HBO)
I liked it and will watch it again (as was a bit sleepy). It's a worthy successor to GoT proper (excluding the last season) and does justice to the source material. The visual quality and sets are also a step up from Thrones but still seem organically related. Great job.
However, like Shack and Flava, I'm struggling to understand why they are changing actresses. I can see this as potentially being a fatal blow for the show if it doesn't go well.

Re: House of the Dragon (HBO)
Solid first episode, but it just doesn't have the magnetic personalities of Game of Thrones. I don't think anything this show does will be able to live up to Seasons 1-4 of GOT and the best moments from seasons 5-8 (yes even 8 had its moments).

I'm sure it will never be as good as GOT in its prime, but I really liked the first episode and expected to feel indifferent from the start.

Episode 2 was a bit slower, but still interesting. Setting up interesting stuff.

I liked the episode alot. But not a fan of bringing the theme song back. Stand on your own, House of the Dragon.

So far the show has been fine. It does make me miss Game of Thrones and how must watch it was.

Them using the same theme song was This show is visually spectacular but a tad on the dull side for me thus far. Will obviously continue watching.
