So they really are going to move forward with the show? I thought they would have dropped it since they dropped American Gods thinking they only have room for one fantasy/sci fi show because of the budget.

I preferred this idea when it was an Arnie vehicle.

Re: HBO's "Westworld"-series has a terrific cast
HBO wins again. Thrones fans are gonna love this. It's got a similar cinematic scope and presentation along with GRRM's way of flipping out expectations on how a story should go . But Westworld can also go to new places. There's always a cloud of uncertainty, first concerning who is a robot and who isn't , and then escalating even further as we go deeper into this new world. It also maintains the intensity of its crazy opening throughout the entire hour. And it has a delightful sense of humor, thus not completely dragging us down into this somtimes disturbing look at the human mind. I laughed so hard when the food is tourist became the hero at the end. And right before the foreshadowed epic speech of Hector! 10/10

Re: HBO's "Westworld"-series has a terrific cast
They are certainly giving it a great marketing push. Nearly every online ad I've seen recently has been Westworld (in Croatian, not English) and they're plastering promotional posters all over. Though they did that with Vinyl too, but it didn't pay off at all.

This was a very good first episode. Audacious and ambitious. And I loved Ed Harris.

El Maskado wrote: Groundhog's Day/Total Recall/Assassin's Creed/Blade Runner That's pretty much how I would describe it as well. Never seen the original film, but the cast piqued my interest and I like these type of futuristic sci-fi concepts. I dug the pilot and will definitely be catching the rest of the episodes. Also, Ed Harris is awesome in this so far. His character has such a menacing presence.

Re: HBO's "Westworld"-series has a terrific cast
I wonder if Harris' character is truly human or if he is an Agent Smith-type A.I. who has separated himself from the overall system and become motivated by self-preservation and self-discovery.
In a way, the series seems to have split the Yul Brynner character into two, the other half becoming the android outlaw played by Rodrigo Santoro.

I watched the first episode last night. Eh, it was ok. I won't be continuing. Though I did like the instrumental "Paint It Black".

Re: HBO's "Westworld"-series has a terrific cast
This is excellent so far. Love it. It gives me off strong Carnivale vibes in the fact that's it's a strongly introvert / more psychological show than 99% of the shows out there. I just hope it won't suffer the same fate. Flava'd vs The World wrote: HBO wins again. Thrones fans are gonna love this. It's got a similar cinematic scope and presentation along with GRRM's way of flipping out expectations on how a story should go . I actually think that most GoT "fans" won't like this. GoT is pretty straightforward in its story telling. Westworld has been playing it way more lowkey and hinting stuff than outright showing and/or telling like GoT. And most GoT fans today are mainstream hipster bandwagoners. It took the show a while to find that big of an audience. I don't think Westworld will pull them as easily.
