Actually, both of the episodes of The Simpsons last night were new, so it was shown after a new episode.

Don't be concerned with Family Guy, by the way. It held 96% of the audience from The Simpsons.

Amazing for Desperate Housewives!

I hope Family Guy can survive. It's a great show.

That's actually not that good for Elvis, considering the less hyped insect movie last week earned more (I believe it's 15m against 13.5m)

Desperate Housewives grew AGAIN, surpassing 26 million viewers for the second time ever (first time being its series high in November).

Grey's Anatomy climbed up too, almost hitting 20 million. I think Extreme MAkeover was just a tad under its usual numbers.

While Family Guy was still very good, I think that drop was a litle too hard too soon. It was almost 2 million viewers below its premiere. IF it should stay around the 9 million viewer range, it should be noticed as a hit, especially against Desperate Housewives (and believe me there are more people than you think that watch both Housewives and Family Guy).

Can somebody explain to me exactly what these numbers mean. The ones in blue are from last week's ratings.

1. "Desperate Housewives" (ABC) - 17.4/25 (17.8/25)
2. "Grey's Anatomy" (ABC) - 13.0/20 (12.5/19)

Yeah family guy lost like 100,000 of The Simpsons viewers. When you consider what it was up against i think thats exceptional; you just DONT find retention like that...even from Greys Anatomy.

Plus teh second new episode of the Simpsons always scores higher ratings than the first, so it's a very good lead-in.

The first number is the household rating. One point represents 1% of households. I think there are supposed to be over 100 million households in the U.S. So for Desperate Housewives, 17.4% of all U.S. households (with a TV set) are watching Desperate Housewives.

The second number is the share/household share. This number is taken from the number of households that are watching TV. So for Desperate Housewives, 25% of all households that happened to be watching television are tuned in to Desperate Housewives.

Could anything ever get a 100/100?

Has anything ever come close?

Well, the ratings point will always be lower than the share.

Scenario, say there are ten overall households that own television. At 9 PM Sunday, six of them have their TV sets turned on. Of the six TVs that are turned on, four are watching Desperate Housewives, and two are watching Family Guy.

So... for Desperate Housewives, to get the ratings point/percentage, divide four (the total no. of households watching DH) by ten (the total no. of households) and you get .4, or 40%. To get the share, divide four by six (the no. of households that are watching TV) and you get .67 or 67%.

The ratings for Desperate Housewives in this simple scenario would be 40.0/67. Family Guy is 20.0/33

Of course, there are 100 million households and a lot of networks so an actual rating/share figure would be smaller. Unless it's the final ep. of M*A*S*H*.

You mean where 100% of households have their TV's on at the same time, and also are watching the exact same channel...at the same time.

:-k Maybe in robot land.

If you count when all networks run similar things AKA 9-11 or an Election you can come close!

But all of the viewers have to be tuned in to the same channel.

Actually, I think the only thing that could make 100/100 even remotely possible in the U.S. is if either there was a HUGE disaster somewhere else in the world, like a country was wiped out. Or there was a HUGE war and the most likely to reel in most viewers (and also least likely to happen) if Aliens landed somwhere out of the US and we had live coverage ORRR if we find Aliens and telecast live from space.
And when one of these happens, only 1 network just happens to have a live crew in that area, so until other networks learn of the even, maybe for only a few minutes one network could come extremely close to 100 % share and hopefully almost every TV owner will have to be watching TV at that exact moment!

Other than those, I don't know, nothing can really do it.

How many people watched the first moon landing? I find it hard to believe that that's not in the top 50.

I'm not sure if that was live footage and aired on TV as it happened.
Someone could disprove me if I'm wrong.
Plus, you know there have always been those theories that the footage that we landed on the moon was staged!
