"American Horror Story: Roanoke"
The season 6 premiere aired last night and after months of secrecy and speculation the subtitle and theme of the season was revealed to be "Roanoke." A lot is still being kept close to the chest but the confirmed series regulars this season are Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Cuba Gooding Jr., Lily Rabe, Andre Holland, Denis O'Hare, Wes Bentley, Evan Peters, Cheyenne Jackson and Angela Bassett. Lady Gaga, Matt Bomer and Finn Wittrock are expected to be recurring but no one knows anything about their characters yet.
I thought the season premiere was great and very atmospheric. Seems like this season is going to be a mix of the true crime documentary style shows, The Blair Witch Project and The Hills Have Eyes based on the premiere.
I also feel like there's something up with the narrators and the re-enactors, something that's off. This show wouldn't just reveal that the central characters survive in the first episode.

I enjoyed it. But I have no clue what's going to happen or where this is going. My wife said the same thing about the narrators.

Re: "American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare"
I'm not sure if I liked it or hated it. It was definitely not as flashy as Hotel or the first season (the only ones I've seen) and I feel like Supernatural's couple of episodes that were a mash of SyFy-like documentary and re-enactments were done much better. Maybe my biggest gripe is that re-enactments are not as campy or shitty as they usually are in these quasi-docu stuff AHS is emulating. Maybe it will make more sense later on.
Though it's quite unfortunate that Blair Witch is coming back with a sequel. It felt too much of a rip off at times. Especially the stick people.

Terrific first episode, I thought. It suggests a more overtly "scary" season than the last few, which is a neat change of pace.

You have no idea how ostracizing it is to be a young person who doesn't watch this.
This is probably my second favorite premiere after Coven and that says A LOT.
I judt loved every thing and a million times better than everything on Hotel.
But as usual let's see how long it takes Murphy to do his thing and fuck it all up

I just can't look at it serious. The reenactment parts should be scary obviously, but they're "reenactments". The show kind of beats its purpose by itself. Though it's a much better story than Hotel. Or at least it's more interesting.

The second episode was good, though I'm itching to see more of the ensemble aside from Cuba, Paulson and Bassett.

I've seen the first episode but not the second. I do like the idea and promise of this season but hate the whole interview/re-enactment bullshit. I do hope it doesn't remain like this for the rest of the season.
What a surprise, thompsoncory loves another TV show.

Ah ok. But you do seem to love every TV show you watch.

Not everything. I have dropped shows I can't stand anymore before ("The Walking Dead," "Once Upon A Time" and "Scandal" come to mind). And I don't watch any procedural drama or any of that nonsense
Again, I work in the business so I'm pre-exposed to a lot of stuff.
Also, to be fair, I've hated seasons of "AHS" before too. Season 4 in particular was awful.
I'm definitely finding the "interviews" more distracting after two episodes. But I love the "re-enactments". I'm sure they didn't cast Lily Rabe in the role without some other plans for her, so those assuming there's something more to these interviews are probably right.

Re: "American Horror Story: Roanoke"
I'm hoping they have a really good twist for this format. Unlike last season which was one roll eyes after the other I'm kind of interesting in this one. But I just can't get fully into the format as either it's extremely predictable (everybody lives) and so far it makes no sense to do it like this. But I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt for now.

Oh really? Interesting! I guess you had to really, with all the stuff you see early. What do you do?

The story is still being developed pretty generic if that's what you're asking.

Re: "American Horror Story: Roanoke"
This season has lost me a bit. I was way more into Hotel, though this is still superior to Freak Show. It is fine, but it is starting to fall into familiar American Horror Story traps. The left-and-right tangents when core elements still require nurturing and development. The aggressive information dumping (Lady Gaga's forest witch went from mysterious to entirely explained in two minutes). The peripheral ghosts can be creepy, but Kathy Bates' I'll-slit-ya-from-ear-to-ear-and-sanctify-this-land-with-the-blood-of-a-scallywag character is decidedly not. And it has these moments where even allowing for the heightened context and tone, moments of unreality sting: no one cares, for example, when the Denis O'Hare character dies. No need to call the cops or notify a relative or...
