 So...who else loves Ally McBeal
this show had it all. Cheese, laughter, tears, crackpots and issues. but i luved it. i mean we can excuse the last season, and it was quite clear that if Robert Downey Jr never did drugs this show could have lasted longer.
i luved all the female characters on the show. Nelle, Ling, Elaine, Georgia and Ally. I really did like Ally, even when she was at her whiniest.
and Vonda Shepard's amazing voice sealed the show

Re: So...who else loves Ally McBeal
I love Ally. Though it lost me somewhere around season 4. I never got interested to watch it to the end. But I remember how funny and charming it was.
I liked Vonda , but later I just started to hate her and her voice. It was too much.
When someone mentions Ally the first scene that comes to mind is - "Pa, pa, pa, pa, pa, pa, pa, pa, pa, pa, pa, pa, pa, pa, pa, pa, pa - Tracy when I'm with you, something you do bounces me off the ceiling."... I always felt sad that there wasn't more Tracy in the show.

Me! Though, yeah, last season seriously sucked. Seriously seriously seriously. So bad I wasn't even sad when it ended.

Re: So...who else loves Ally McBeal
I used to be a huge Ally McBeal fan back in the day.
Oh, the memories. Ally is probably the most divisive lead character in a television program of the last twenty years. Even more than Meredith Grey. You either loved her or hated her. I loved her.
My favorite character was always Ling. And John Cage was up there too, Peter MacNicol always did such a good job.
And yes, the last season was horrible (with Hayden Panettiere as her out-of-nowhere adopted daughter or whatever).
I feel like listening to the theme song now. "I've been searching my soul tonightttt..."
Of course, Ally McBeal will live on in pop culture forever. Everyone remembers little tidbits about this show, from the unisex bathrooms to (of course) the creepy dancing baby.

to me its all about the one liners. i've recently started watching it again and there are so many "SNAP" moments, that i'm working overtime to incorporate them into my daily life.

Ling, after a man in a wheelchair runs over her foot:
OW! Watch where you're going, it's bad enough you people get all the parking spots
I think the series really took off when Ling and "Sub Zero" Nelle were added to the cast. Georgia was the "nicer nemesis" type but those two were just human, ruthless, and funny. Lucy Liu should've won the Emmy that year she was nominated for Supporting Actress (ONCE!). Instead, that shrieky Kristen Johnston from 3rd Rock From the Sun won.
Cuddy/Lisa Edelstein was also recurring here as a transsexual dating uhm... I think Mark Albert was his name... too bad that lawyer wasn't very interesting.
Oh, Christina Ricci as Liza Bump, lol. God, this show had the weirdest characters.

Boston Legal is full of all sorts of interesting beings. also The Practice and Boston Public also had their freaks. and i honestly thought Nelle was more badass than Ling, because Nelle loved being an unlikeable bitch. While Ling didn't care.

Uga chaka, uga chaka, uga chaka... That was some of the worst CGI work ever, even for a TV show Also Ling's comments about sex were were hilarious.

I remember that she said she didn't like sex because it's all sweaty. That was also hilarious too.

I've never really watched it, but have recently become interested in checking it out (yes, mostly due to RDJ). Is it out on DVD?

Joy Apparently not in the U.S. (music rights issues).

Joy RDJ appears in only one season (four I think) if my memory serves correct. He was having problems with drugs/alcohol at the time so he was pretty much thrown out of the show.

Re: So...who else loves Ally McBeal
Yup, Robert Downey, Jr. only appeared in and was a regular on Season 4. Disappeared (save for some uncredited Ally-hallucinations) after that because of his addiction issues.

Re: So...who else loves Ally McBeal
Aw, that sucks. I'm so glad RDJ has straightened up since then.
Too bad the DVDs aren't out here... Even if RDJ is in one season, I'd like to check out the entire series. I like to make sure I'm caught up on things when watching a new show. I plan to check out the BSG DVDs so I can be caught up to watch Dean Stockwell's eps.

Re: So...who else loves Ally McBeal
Joy, definitely check out the entire series (where available) - Season 1 was good and 2 was brilliant, 3 was uneven, 4 was an *almost* back to glory days, while 5 was just... well, let's leave it at that. lol
If I were to rank: 1. Season 2 2. Season 4 2. Season 1
4. Season 3
5. Season 5
