 The Goldbergs
Has anyone else been watching this? It's gotten so much better than the pilot - it's really quite funny and sweet. Almost every episode ends up being surprisingly touching. Wendi McLendon-Covey is absolutely hilarious on it as well. I actually like all the characters - even the oldest son who I found horribly annoying in the first 2-3 episodes has grown on me.
I'd recommend anyone who was turned off by the pilot to check it out again.

thompsoncory, Me and you have the same taste in TV. The pilot was a train wreck but the show has grown on me quite a bit. The second half always has the happiest endings for each episode.

 Re: The Goldbergs
I loved this from the start. It's a decent throwback to 80s TV, like if some family sitcoms from that era had filmed without the studio audience.

 Re: The Goldbergs
I feel bad because I know ABC will likely renew it for a 2nd season and stick it on Friday nights or in some impossible time slot.

 Re: The Goldbergs
That's kinda lucky though. With these ratings 5 years ago this would already be cancelled. You have to take what you can get.

 Re: The Goldbergs
I am so confident that ABC will renew it for season 2. I've been loving this show for the past two episodes. I loved that at the end of last night's episode, Quote: Erica got revenge on Drew after leaving her for another girl. Then, karma came back to him because his mother told Erica's mom that Drew's other gf kissed another guy and he was crying so much that he did not want to use his water pass. The scene with Barry being addicted to the arcade was awesome!

Is anybody watching it this season? It's really enjoyable so far and it jels better than last season.

 Re: The Goldbergs
I originally thought this was not very good, but then it found its groove. I still like Modern Family better though, even though I know a lot of people think it is overrated.

 Re: The Goldbergs
Modern Family is only overrated to those with fickle taste. More or less, it's been the same great show for six seasons and one of the few sitcoms I look forward to every week.
Same for The Goldbergs. I loved it when it started and I'm glad it's finally finding an audience. Just hope ABC doesn't Suburgatory it and send it off to Fridays next year.

 Re: The Goldbergs
And for the most part, The Goldbergs has been the same show all along, but I think people were turned off by the loud, cranky father, the eccentricities of the entire family, the whole Wonder Years vibe. People thought it was just a rip-off of better shows, which isn't to say that's untrue. It owes a debt to The Wonder Years and many other family-based sitcoms. But it has its own voice. And it taps into that generation that I feel a part of, even though I was more early 90s.

The difference between that and Suburgatory is TG is actually building on the Middle this season where in S1 it was losing Shield's audience on an average of 30% while Suburgatory in S2 lost MF's lead-in and even lost its way airing after The Middle for 2 episodes in S2 when it used to build on its lead-in in S1. Very impossible for ABC to move The Goldbergs to Friday Nights. If it gets a move, ABC will move it to 8pm on Wednesdays next season.

 Re: The Goldbergs
"The Goldbergs" has managed to stabilize on Wednesdays and fits in well with the family block so I think it's safe.
I love it so I'm happy it's doing well.

Great premiere tonight. Adam has clearly gone through a big growth spurt during the hiatus though.

 Re: The Goldbergs
Season 3 is fantastic so far. This and Fresh off the Boat are the best comedies on network TV this year!!
Adam's voice change proves he is clearly going through puberty, but I still think he's awesome.
