 The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
Definitely my most anticipated series to return nxt season. As of now, Lost is clearly my favorite season out there and S5, while not all terrific, was still a very good season and left us with a great set-up for the final season.
Man, I can't believe there are only 17 new Lost episodes left for us.
Anyway, what we know about S6 as of now is:
- Elizabeth Mitchell will be back, but not as a regular
- Same abut Terry O'Quinn. He said that Locke is definitely dead, though.
- I also remember reading that there will be more than one major character death before the end of the season
- Libby's story will never be resolved now because Cynthia Watros denied to return
- Mr. Eko's storyline was actually also supposed to span 4 seasons originally...until the actor decided he didn't want to stay on Hawaii anymore
- Walt is supposed to return

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
I hope they can tie up all the dangling plot threads and answer all the big questions, but I somehow doubt it.
I think Ben's going to die for sure, and probably Sayid as well. Don't know about anyone else.
I just hope they end it with some finality, and not leave us hanging.

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
At this point I just hope that they will have a decent finale. The fifth season was mediocre and I wasn't a big fan of the fourth season either. 1970s were pretty much a waste of time (travel). Yes, they tied a lot of things up with that, but the 1970s episodes always felt uneventful and boring.
I don't know what to think of the finale. It was all over the place.

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
Presumably, Annie will play a key role and there is some volcano. Writers mentioned that in season 3 or 4 commentaries.
Anyone doing a series recap before season 6 begins? I'm planning on starting in August with my best friend and going through all 5 seasons by January 2010 before the last season starts. I might create a thread for it later... people can post all their questions, theories, random wonderments throughout the series thus far.

Volcanoes are awesome.
I think Juliet is dead, unless her new show doesn't do well. Locke is dead, but our new villain will appear with O'Quinn as his main form. I'm guessing the premiere will be a two hour event, starting when they crash on the Island. I think there will be some mild differences though, such as Lepidus flying the plane. Miles will obviously be there too somehow.

Well after the credits of the finale they showed the opening shot the series, Jack waking up after the plane crash. So that's where I think next season is gonna start.

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
O'Quinn isn't a regular? That sucks
Claire's coming back. I think Aaron is going to be REALLY important. In response to Raffi's question... I'm going through the series this summer. Just finished Season 1.
One thing I noticed was that while there was disappointingly few clues and set-ups about the future seasons (which would indicate the producers knowing where they were going from the start), but one that was I believe, is the Kate-Aaron thing. The whole "you must not allow him to be raised by another" bit in her episode definitely foreshadows Kate/Carol raising him off the island and whatever will happen to him as a result
The other big reason I think, is that I'm pretty sure the entire sequence around Boone's death was the "destiny"'s way of making Kate to deliver that baby. Not only was Jack busy with Boone, but was in the middle of giving him blood when he heard about Claire... the reason he had to give blood was that Shannon (who had his blood type) was off having the picnic with Sayid. I always thought it was weird that in an episode with two huge events like Boone's death and Claire giving birth, that would devote any time to Shannon and Sayid picnicing. I think her being away was there to set up the Jack's blood thing and Kate birthing Aaron.
One other random thing is that in Claire's dream in the beginning of "Raised by Another", she runs into an evil Locke with black eyes who tells her she's paying the price for wanting to give him away or something. It's probably a coincience but you never know

Also, is it just me or does Jack drink all the vodka on the plane, and then when he wakes up he still has it in the bottle? Maybe I need to rewatch the pilot but that was definitely a "huh" moment I didn't realize before.
And they definitely had the "Christian is wearing white tennis shoes" bit set up from the beginning... ghost Christian has them on. And there's that white shoe on the tree in the pilot

One thing I noticed was that while there was disappointingly few clues and set-ups about the future seasons (which would indicate the producers knowing where they were going from the start) Yeah, like I said, I think they planned out most of the show after season 2. I think because they didn't have a definite end in sight while making season 1 (and 2) there wouldn't be alot of clues. But season 3 is really the sweetest season Lost has had. After the sub-par first 6 episodes, it did a tremendous job of not only paying off storylines from seasons 1 and 2, connecting them to the future of Lost and setting up the end-game, but it did it all in a very thrilling string of non-stop excellent episodes. I think Season 5 had alot of potential but was really held back by not having alot of formal writing structure. Back to the season 1 "clues"... I think the reason for the big effort to "recreate" or allude back to season 1 scenes was their way of tying it all in from the beginning because back then they didn't know the specifics of the plots in the seasons today, even if they knew the eventual end-game (which I doubt as well, but that's IMHO). I may start watching season 1 earlier than August, maybe mid June. Thing is I'm graduating June 14 and going to be traveling all of July.

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
The finale was a letdown for me because it was slow moving and they killed off my favorite character. If Kate had been drawn and quartered I'd have been happier, I'm sick of her. I think the producers have this idea that as long as Jack, Kate and Sawyer live happily ever after at the very end of the series that we'll all cheer. Uh, no, I don't think so for many of us. The non-815 characters weren't just disposable filler, even if they were to the producers. And with them revealing Locke to be dead, it made us look like chumps for believing in the idea that there was something special about him. I dunno, there were aspects of the finale I liked - especially the acting of Emerson and Mitchell - but overall it was a bit padded out and blah. I'm still hooked on the show though, obviously.

I have never experienced any series to rebound this much within a single season. The final 5-6 episodes are flat-out terrific.

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
The first 6 episodes of S3 are seriously underrated. People they're better than most S4 and especially S5 episodes. Eventually you'll get there too.
S3 is by far the best Lost season. I don't think it will ever be as good as it was there. I'm just hoping S6 is better than S4 and S5 that were on a downward spiral.

Strongly disagreed. Not only I like S4, but even by themselves, I find the first six episodes of S3 boring.

first 6 episode of season 3 were pretty brutal. Season 4 was the best season since season 1. I actually found this season rather blah.

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
With the exception of Jack's tattoo and Mr. Eko dies episodes the first part of season 3 was pretty good. I also think they overreacted to people bitching on the net a few times. Nikki and Paulo could have become amazing characters!
The finale of season 3 is the best Lost episode ever. Hands down.

I'm surprised no one really loved the 70's episodes! I thought they were great fun and had very cool references everywhere. The 3 year jump was one of the best things they could have done story-wise.

The 3 year jump was one of the best things they could have done story-wise. It was great, I liked it a lot too. The part of the season I didn't like was the Oceanic 6 part. If the season had just been about the left behinders struggling with the time jumps and then settling in at Dharmaville it would have been a perfect season for me. The 70s episodes were a part of the series where I really felt the shortened seasons. If they'd had 5 or 6 more episodes they could have expanded on that period of after they arrived but before the O6ers returned. More about Jin, Miles and Faraday settling in and what they did and such. The shortened seasons are cutting out too much of the everyday life and humanity, things are too much mythology now. I like the game changing mythology moments but the show needs to breathe more. I have to wonder what the producers are thinking with respect to Jack and Kate. Do they intend for them to come across this season as so shallow and boring? Weren't they originally the two main heroes? Most people I know who watch Lost now don't like Kate much anymore and find Jack kind of dumb. As to who might die, it has always seemed to me that Jack and Kate are the intended end-game couple which means if Juliet is dead (which she might not be but it seems very possible) then Sawyer is left alone so I think they could have him die in some heroic moment near the end. Also I think Charles Widmore will probably die. As to Ben, I'm not sure - I could see him dying but also I could imagine that he might turn good somehow. The question I'd like to hear you guys respond to is: we seem to be heading into some sort of time-reset, but what will the nature of it be? Back to 2004? 2007? 2010? Memories intact or not? Any thoughts on that?

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
Here's some producer quotes about that. Question: This is probably a long shot, but got any Lost scoop? --Jeff Ausiello: Yeah, having Lost scoop in late May is about as unlikely as me combing through my old transcripts and finding an unused Damon Lindelof quote pertaining to the show's series finale. OMG, looky here: "We’ve been planning out the final season for four years now. And of all the talks we have had about the show, [reuniting all the castaways] is the subject that has come up the most. The ending was almost where we began, and we had to figure out how to get there. It's like a wedding where the reception is the part that requires the most planning and is the most fun to plan. We've exchanged our vows and I am ready to go party."

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
I've got a happily ever after prediction for the final episode. Charles Widmore tells Penny that he actually does approve of Desmond, but was just an asshole because he knew Desmond had to go to the Island. Then he's shot by Ben in the fourth surprise shooting of the episode.
I loved the fifth season btw. I'd rank them 3 > 4 > 1 > 5 > 2.
I think the writers want to kill Kate, but don't know how. She, Sawyer, and Jack will survive, their love triangle being the only question unanswered.

Jack Desmond and Sayid.
Jack will die in the final episode and Kate and Sawyer will end up together, Jack will sacrifice himself for them somehow. Either that or vice-versa.

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 6
Can i just say i think LOST learned from a few of ALIAS' mistakes
Alias, at its best, beat LOST hands down for me, but what i love about LOST is it avoided the inconsistency Alias had in later years - when actors backed out of returning and they had to take the show in a different direction.
I guess the iron-clad contracts and writing team on LOST ensured that continuity, that long-term plan. Those contracts were never in place for the likes of Lena Olin on Alias; who i still attribute to a fucked up third season.
