Have You Ever Complained To The FCC About Indecency?
I've also posted this poll at BOM but visitors are slow so, uh, you may answer it either there or here.
Yesterday the House passed legislation which permits the FCC to increase the fine for "excessive sexual and excretory content" to $500,000 per incident when broadcast between the hours of 6 A.M. and 10 P.M.. Now this may sound reasonable on the face of it, but the result of the legislation will be the censorship of typically PG and PG-13 material (for instance saying the full "B.S." word too many times with or without the Bull represents "excretory content") with the added penalty of being able to fine both the station and the performer responsible $500,000 each.
Meanwhile, there is a difference btween cracking down on Howard Stern and cracking down on Saving Private Ryan, however, the pending legislation makes no distinction.
The Senate has passed similar legislation, though not the same Bill and that version is in disagreement with the House version.
The question is, have you ever complained to the FCC about indecency, or for that matter, about excessive censorship?
With the availability of the V-Chip, this legislation is highly questionable. Your thoughts?
BTW, if you oppose this legislation you should contact your representatives in the Senate and Congress by E-mail yesterday.
It's probably too late, though because both the House and Senate versions of the Bill are in disagreement there may still be time to speak your mind.

95% of indecency complaints to the FCC in the last year were by one activist conservative group trying to pressure the government.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Some kind of "Parents" group.
No doubt making a million dollars at it, or trying to.
I read where they're currently lobbying the government to select their "anti-indecency" candidate for chairman of the FCC, replacing Michael Powell. I get so apathetic and give up on even following these Travesties of Liberty, but then that's how they win, isn't it?
Years ago I tried complaining to the FCC against censorship. I wasn't able to enjoy the same uncut episodes of Monty Python or Benny Hill that aired on British television in their entirety.
The FCC's response to my suggestion that the "public airwaves" belonged to All of Us
was to send their little pamphlet explaining the Family Hour and how the airwaves were regulated against "offensive content"
in "the public interest".

Personally, I think that indecency on the airwaves needs to be cut during hours when children are most likely to be watching. There is enough sex, violence and other offensive content being pumped into their brains, why do we need to allow them to see even more on TV? And people wonder why teens are having sex earlier and earlier, children are taking guns to school and the moral fiber of the country is disintigrating?
I'm not saying pin it all on Hollywood or the media, as a lot has to do with parents not keeping proper restraints on their children, peer pressure and other factors, but the media definately does have a role. Deny it all you want but it is there.

I hate the FCC. They are WAY too sensitive. I remember BUFFY, WILL & GRACE, etc... always made their BAD list and 7TH HEAVEN was always at the top of their GOOD list . I remember they were very upset over an episode of W & G where Glenn Close guest starred and kissed Grace . They annoy me. I find them to be a joke.
