Re: Phelps, Lil Wayne to open SNL season
Yay, another in-the-moment sports figure hosting the show who couldn't possibly act if his life depended on it!
On the plus side, he should fit right in with the cast that makes eye-love with the cue cards every week. Seriously, I've never seen a cast with so much talent spend so much time reading off cue cards. AhemJasonSudeikisahem.

Re: Phelps, Lil Wayne to open SNL season
September 13? That seems much earlier than usual. It feels like it wasn't that long ago when they would start in the middle of October. Maybe it's to make up for the "lost" episodes last year (just looked it up - that's actually why they're starting so early this year). With the four in a row to open up this year that means we're going to have 22 episodes this year which would make it the most episodes in a season since 1976-77 (thanks Wiki). The four episodes in a row also doesn't seem like a good idea. Last year the creative well seemed to run dry at the beginning of episode three so to do it again doesn't seem like a good idea. Then again, they have the benefit of having the debates being around the same time as these episodes so that could work in their favor. Also, there's a new cast member this year. His name is Bobby Moynihan.

Maybe it's starting earlier because it's an election year? I don't know.

Interesting. I haven't been too up on the show lately, so I don't know if I'll tune in. I've been getting a little sick of seeing Phelps on every TV program every day.

Re: Phelps, Lil Wayne to open SNL season
Outside of the opener with Tina Fey playing Sarah Palin the premiere hasn't been good. It's the first episode back and all of the sketches feel like they're uninspired, especially the one with Will Forte dancing which was just a rehash of the one he did with Peyton Manning. And Phelps wasn't even into it which is how he's been for most of this show. He doesn't seem very willing to make an ass out of himself.

Re: Phelps, Lil Wayne to open SNL season
It's sad that the new guy has the best sketch of the night so far.

Re: Phelps, Lil Wayne to open SNL season
Just watched the skit and it was HILARIOUS! I hope Tina Fey can do the show more often until Election Day. They will really need a McCain and an Obama though. their Obama from last year wasn't too impressive.

Yay, Anna Faris is hosting on the 27th! I've been wanting Faris to host SNL for years! I knew it would likely happen now after THE HOUSE BUNNY came out.

Holy shit. I will finally have a reason to watch my first SNL episode in, like, years. What a shitty show SNL is.

SNL has sucked this season. Let's hope the wonderfully talented Anna Faris can pick the show up off its feet.

One of the funnier SNLs in a while. Hathaway was pretty good.

Re: Phelps, Lil Wayne to open SNL season
Is there a way to watch tonight's episode at some point online or something? I wanted to see Anne Hathaway but forgot about taping it.

I'm sure multiple sketches will be on hulu.com in a day or so. I too forgot to record it. Funny, I actually missed it because I was watching Rachel Getting MArried.

Re: Phelps, Lil Wayne to open SNL season
Well this was odd. Last year at the end of the four-in-a-row run the show had, everyone seemed to be out of gas. The writing was off and the sketches weren't very good and this was by the third episode. This year the show finally hit the mark. This was the best episode of SNL since Steve Carell hosted the 2005 premiere. There was not one truly awful sketch and as of late it's usually been the case where each show has at least three of them. And Anne Hathaway made for a damn good host. She seemed at ease the entire time and she was willing to make fun of herself.
And the best sketch of the night easily goes to "Mark Whalberg Talks to Animals". That sketch is the first sketch in a long time to actually make me cry from laughing so hard. Andy Samberg deserves an Emmy just for that one sketch.

Re: Phelps, Lil Wayne to open SNL season
I haven't watched the episode yet, as I said, but I'm not surprised Anne Hathaway was a good host. I've always thought she was a skilled comedian, in addition to being a solid actress overall.

Re: Phelps, Lil Wayne to open SNL season
Haha I just watched clips from last night.
The cold opening with the VP debate was hilarious. Tina Fey is so utterly perfect as Palin that it's ridiculous. And I loved Queen Latifah as Gwen Ifill's reactions to her answers.
Mary Poppins was hilarious, as was the creepy sister act performance.
And Mark Wahlberg Talks to Animals was the most random thing ever but freaking hysterical. Andy Samberg sounded identical to him.
